1.) 10 gallons is the preferred number of gallons by most serious beta owners (I can understand this though.) 2.) He NEEDS a lid. There's a possibility he will jump out of the tank when you aren't around. 3.) The water seemed cloudy. There couldve been excessive amounts of calcium in your substrate. You may need a better substrate 4.) You're not supposed to pour the water they come in, into the tank. (Good job for acclimating at least) but the water they come in has so much ammonia build up in it, that once it hits air it can become toxic for your fish. 5.) You're supposed to let the water in your tank sit for a day or 2 6.) You probably havnt boiled your substrate. It helps to get rid of bacteria and excess calcium I hope this helps

Bettas are fragile fishes. And this fish has already damaged fins. Put real plants in ur tank, install a heater, do the 4 weeks of the nitrogen cycle and remove the fake plant which is dangerous. Add good bacteria. Betta is a living being not a decoration. For the medical treatment of fish, make another small tray with a fin rot medicine, with water at 82 degrees. Find out more, read books on aquariophilia, look at specialized websites !!! Don't forget to clean the filter every month with the water of the tanl, make a 10% water change every week or every two weeks with water that has rested for 24 hours to remove heavy metals from the tap water and that the water is at the right temperature to avoid temperature shock ! Avoid overfeeding your fish to avoid pollution, nitrites in the tank, diseases and therefore the death of your fish !

Betta’s really need a 7-10 gallon to be happy and healthy. They need a sponge filter and a temperature of 79-81, so a adjustable heater is really important. To help keep the water clear of Ammonia and Nitrates getting live plants is very helpful for him. You can’t put them together or they will kill each other. Make sure you get a water test kit. They will change colors drastically after you get them home. Water changes for a 5 gallon tank without plants will need 40% water changes every week with de-chlorinator. Also you never add store water to a home tank. Also, Betta’s are jumpers so you need a lid. It helps to understand the Nitrogen cycle. Remember Betta’s are one of the most abused fish in the fish hobby next to Goldfish. Betta’s live between three to four years in good conditions. They have personalities unmatched in the hobby. I recommend: Simply Betta, Rachel O’Leary, Solid Gold, Aquarium Co-Op, and The King of DIY vloggers to help with understanding fish keeping. I only want to help. Have a great day.

@rosathomson16024 жыл бұрын
It’s so sad to have to see them suffer but unfortunately ‘saving’ betas from shops like this only fuels them, it tells the store that there is a demand for betas and that people will buy them regardless of the conditions they’re kept in. It’s heart breaking to have to let them suffer in the stores but the only clear way to send a message to the companies that abuse them is to make it public knowledge that you and others won’t buy from a store that abuses it’s animals. I struggle to understand why anyone would rather buy a fish from a store than a breeder, with a breeder you can almost guarantee a level of expertise and care for the animals but with large chain pet stores, staff are never properly educated on every animal sold and will often not provide accurate information for the desire to just make the sale.

Yeah when I first got my fish tanks I was given such lousy information so I've had seven and four have died. I finally figured out that I need to do 20% water changes once a week and of course I cycled the tank for at least a month before getting my new fish. Since we don't have a large variety of food such as Omega one pellets and Omega one freeze fried blood worms I could only get the best that I could find but I'm asking my sister to send that + to 50 watt here's because the heaters in Taiwan thay are okay but the one I have is 25 watts which is only good for the one gallon that I have. That's only temporary until I find a larger one she's a baby. I found that a little bit of aquarium salt is helpful as well as cleaning all the algae. I have an air pump with a filter that does a good job keeping water clean I think the main issue is probably just lack of heat but Taiwan is pretty warm but before that I think my other fish died because I was not giving proper information on how to keep fish tanks clean. sadly we also don't have almond leaves so it really makes it difficult to keep the proper environment for betta's what I did was I purchase the largest critter keepers I could find since they don't have large acrylic tanks a 20% water change really seems to be helping and since I feed my fish every other day they have less waste in their tank so at the end of the month I clean it out completely I got the system now it seems to be working great I think these three fish are going to survive and if I'm lucky I might be able to have more someday I'd actually like to go into beta rescue once I am able to really get them strong and living for quite a while. by the way the fish that you picked out has fin rot I'm quite familiar with that because that's the only thing that seemed to kill my fish with fin rot but every time I took my fish back to the pet store so they could see them they said oh no they're healthy don't worry and then they croaked at least a month later

You’re lucky to be in an area with a LFS like this, the largest in where I live only has dull red veil tails and occasionally a sick koi betta

OMG KEEP YOUR LID ON!!! THE FISH WILL JUMP OUT AND DIE!!! KEEP THE LID ON!!

I have never put a lid on my beta fish and I have 6 of them. I have had some of them for almost a year. None have jumped out and died so it just depends on the beta

Bettas don't have the power to jump out of the water.

Just watching how she just opened the bag and let the old water and betta out. That looked like trouble to me because that old water may contaminate your new water in the tank..

How about live plants are the best for fish
@ArubaCoconutify6 жыл бұрын
It's super okay to start out with fake plants too :) sometimes when you start out you wanna get a handle on the tank first. That's how I started:)

No Laurel, it’s not okay. Fake plants tear up your fish’s fins...

How much does a beta cost and how easy/hard are they to manage
@eliza53836 жыл бұрын
You need at least 3 gallons, you need a heater at 75°f, a filter, SILK or live plants, water conditioner, clean it 25% every week and 50% every month
@eliza53836 жыл бұрын
And do not do what the lady did, you can look for color and then see if they are healthy, don't just look for color

And use a lid unless you want your fish to jump out and die a slow death

Sounds good bro, thanks for the feedback!

Air and cleaning filter isn't necessary if you only have a Betta in the tank. They most of the times breath air so I'm not a big fan of lids and have never heard of anyone who had their Betta jumping out of the tank. Lower the water level instead. If you decide to don't use a cleaning filter you will have to change the water more often. Plants that grow in height and floating plants would be highly appreciated too. Also do some mirror exercuxe for like 1-2min each other day if you have a male

You need to cycle your tank. You’re not supposed to buy a fish the same day you set up your tank. There will be ammonia and nitrite spikes which could kill your fish.
