betta with gourami and guppy community tank

Community Planted Tank. 5 gallon. Has been setup from 2yrs now. Betta has been there from 10months and gourami from 7months.
Fish:
betta splendens, dwarf turquoise gourami, red fire guppies, black molly, otocinclus, ghost shrimp.
Plants:
italian vallisneria plant (jungle val)
dwarf hair grass
java moss
duck weed
Marsilea hirsuta

Your betta is super chill great to see the variety. I have 12 guppy, 1 powder blue, and a loach in my 20. Thinking about adding my betta but he's to happy in his own tank.

Honey gouramis are a little bit more docile. I HIGHLY suggest these more than dwarfies but I LOVE this tank😍🔥

Honey gouramis stay small, golden gourami grow big. Honey gourami are twice smaller then dwarf gourami.

that is really cool that they all live together! I have guppies and just added a dwarf female gourami but they are petrified of her so far. they all school at the surface and flee any time she comes near. was thinking about a female beta instead, but who knows, maybe they will all calm down and live well

I kept a Betta and dwarf gourami together for a long time along with a bunch of other fish and never had issues. it was 45 and lots of hiding places.

@@norocketsciencebuild5371 dwarfs are very prone to disease:( my fist at one passed, but I got a new one and am buying him an friend and some fancy guppies to go along with my ghost shrimp Cory catfish and snails in my 20 gal:)

@@norocketsciencebuild5371 never buy dwarf gouramis. a quarter of them (according to a study) are infected with a 100% fatal, incurable disease called Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus

I’m completely new to fish keeping, but I thought the betta looked a bit scruffy. Like the fins have been nipped or something. Also, is the tank big enough for the amount of fish and plants?

@@AeroLuv26 not for the amount of fish but for plants it is. More the plants it's more good for the tank but not too much cause it might take the space and fish will not be able to swim freely. I think only guppies would have been looked good in it. It looks like a beginner scape that I used to do and still do. But in these typo scapes I store plants only not fish. You can if you want to but doesn't look good to the eyes. What I'll do with this size of tank is a good filter with biomedia and I'll scapeit with black water theme like long hairgrass or crypts at background and then scape it with driftwood and some rocks and river sand to hide the soil and scape the foreground and botanicals. I'll also add some floaters and some moss or anything which grows on driftwood and rocks like anubias, javafern etc. For beginner black water scapes are a good start and easy to care. For livestock if tank is nano I'll choose chili rasborasnand with them I'll choose any one between pigmy corries, small snails, some cherry shrimp or if it's mid size tank you can add these all. In nano one just add main fish with some small snails and some shrimp or bottom feeders. In mid size blackwater scape you can add school of neon tetras or any similar size tetras along with some bottom feeders. In a big tank, you can add bunch of different varieties. My suggestion is start with a nano one or mid size as it will cost you less money. Go checkout blackwater scape videos on serpadesign , md fishtanks and blue neon tetra blackwater scape.

+cathedral94 imo gouramis are way more agressive than bettas so if you add the gourami later after the betta has established in the tank then you have a good chance of coexistence BUT always keep an eye on both as things go downhill very fast

It really depends on the individual fish. Years ago I had a neon dwarf gourami and a Betta in the same tank (not knowing any better) and they really got along fine. Together they ruled the tank. Several times either chased a yellow ram away from the Cory cat! Fast forward 20 some odd years. This time used to be an occasional scuffle, but they have been together for about a year. Aside from feeding time they just avoid one another. Oddly enough, it's a little blue ram that seems to be the top fish!

I wouldn’t suggest the goldfish because they are not tropical and if you put them with tropical fish that need a heater then your goldfish will most likely die
