Well Dexter I am in Western Kentucky USA I was told that Breeding and raising bettas here was impossible.Well good news I just hatched a brood a week ago and they are doing great.I watched your videos over and over and acquired the items I needed to do so. All are doing good.Thanks for the step by step I have learned a lot from watch and listening with care.Thank you

Here my experience: 1)let the pair see each other for a whole week, twice a day for 5 or 10 minutes. 2)feed high protein food(blood worms) twice a day. Dont over feed. 3)add clean water, 1inch of water or more. 4inches prefer. Object for female to hide and almond leaves into containers with lid. Let water sit for 24hr. 4)male go in first for a whole hour, then female 5)check twice a day, no more. Best if dont disturb 6) when you see eggs and female is far from the nest. Remove her. Mating could last from 1 to 4 days. After that, if no eggs, try new pair. 7) eggs usually hatch in 3 days, sometimes 5 days depending on water temp. 8) father stays until fry enters free swimming stage. Remove father. 9) feed fry fresh baby brine shrimp or micro worms. Twice a day or once a day depending on fry count. I prefer baby brine shrimp at this stage. 10) dont over feed or water change. They will die from small and sudden changes. 11) only add new water after a week of hatching. Match water temp and slow add small portion of water at a time. Large water displacement can kill them. 12) match fry water parameter by adding some water from fry tank or container to grow out tank. Vice versa. This stage is not necessary if you breed them into 10gal tank. I usually transfer after two weeks prior to free swimming stage or size of fry. NOTE: keeping fry alive is the hard part.

I leave the father with the fry until they are about of age to separate, and add a gallon of water a day via a slow gravity drip from the day they become free swimming, and start water changing the same way once the tank is full. A gallon drips out, a gallon drips in. When they get a little bigger they will have more drip out and more dripping in. I also siphon the bottom daily with a stiff airline tube and an airline hose. Father will cull the weak ones, and the remaining fry will be larger and healthier, in my experience.

i found this very interesting, i am not into labyrinth fish and prefer cichlids and life bearers but i wish people who actually buy a betta from the local fish store would see how much care and time is spend on keeping betta's and other labyrinth fish. i must admit that when i had betta's (about 40 years ago) i found them interesting, i had a few species but cant remember all the names (I'm getting old) what was a "normal" betta then is not what today is a normal betta, long torn looking fins was a sign of fighting or the barbs being hungry. thank you for this informative video, i understand that betta breeding is a way of making money, i just hope the wild population does not get depleted like it did with the endler guppy and Labeo Bicolor as well as many African cichlid species that are being ousted by tilapia as the tilapia have a better food value and breed faster. Again, thank you for the informative video.
