@weebrock67093 жыл бұрын
@@arsenioharris827 3 month and above. But I recommend 5 month old. Because at that age, the eggs being produced are a lot.

I find this very interesting! I'm 70 years old and as a young kid growing up my brother and I had five fish tanks. We had a lot of live bearers we only tried once to breed egg layers... with lots of little brothers and sistersit priced to be too difficult!!!! I ended up being the oldest of 12 children we didn't have the means to be successful and were unable to breed. We had a friend though... a neighbor who did breed betus and he bred 3 spotted gouramis they both built bubble nests. So I find it fascinating in my old age to find out so much information on KZbin that I couldn't find in the library or through fish magazines. Thank you so very much for producing this video

Seeing all those bettas in one tank, peacefully coexisting prior to separation, was wonderful thing. I didn't know they'd do that, so well stressed was the fighting aspect, but it was a joy to see them all hanging out together. Your friends' talent after 17 years is clear to see. And I enjoyed watching this video a great deal. I've known a couple of people who successfully bred bettas, and I've read about how to do it, but it was all geared to small scale production; your friend's operation is anything but small in terms of the output of individual fish, yet it still seems to fit in what looks to be a reasonably compact overall space. I was pleased to see mosquito larvae being used as food for the bettas. I've fed all my fish mosquito larvae whenever possible, but I discovered just how much betta males love live food like mosquito larvae, when I trained both of mine to jump out of their bowls and take single larva off the tip of my finger. Not only were they both willing and able to propel themselves fully out of the water, fancy tail and all, to grab their larvae, but they simply did not miss. I held my finger still, they judged the distances and fingered out how to grab their prey, still wiggling and very much alive. I never noticed just how much my betta males reminded me of bulldogs, till I saw my bettas take live food for the first time, and it just happened to be mosquito larvae. I've always given all my fish, including my bettas, a varied diet that includes live food in season, but these two fish arrived in late winter, so live food was unavailable for a couple of months, and I fed them other sources of protein during that time. Anyway, flash foward two months and I wondered how they'd react to small fat larvae, which I initially placed in the bowls a few at a time. And then I saw them turn into true, if tiny, hunters. I'd always thought their low slung jaws an oddity until I saw then hunt and catch live prey. It fascinated me how they were able to leap out of the water and grab the larvae each and every time without missing or colliding, then they'd swim away and chew on their food. I'd wait for them to return and each of them would, staring up at me, getting excited and following the movements of my hand as I caught up another larva, then quickly returning to the top of the water to watch my finger appear above them, getting excited and going into their hunter poses, even poking their heads out of the water to look at the larva, before going nearly all the way to the bottom of their jars, then swimming upwards hard to break the surface of the water and heave their whole bodies out, tail included, to grab their prey. Initially, I just wanted to see if they would take food from my fingertip when held a short ways above the surface, but on the third day one of them surprised me by leaping nearly all the way out of the water to take the larva, so I learned they could leap a good 3 inches and occasionally then some to take food. Best of all, for me, was how proud they each looked after they'd caught their food - it was a totally different attitude than when they ate other, non-live, types of food. Anyway, I've been a true fan of bettas for a long time and this was a real joy to watch. Thank you both. Oh and the yellow ones were amazing. I don't recall ever seeing bettas in such bright yellow colors before. Other colors, yes, but those yellows are amazing! Do those males retain their bright yellow coloration into adulthood?

I lost about 1/3rd from hydra by feeding brine shrimp. When the survivors got big enough, they consumed all the hydra and had a big growth spurt as a result. Sending you thanks, peace, and love from Houston Texas.

I have 3 bettas: 2 males and 1 female... I love them very much but fin rot and other issues are very likely when you buy them from stores like petco and pet smart.. luckily my babies didn’t have that issue but I made sure to give them the right tank conditions

@@MariFernie i keep a potted plant outside with about an inch or two of water on top of the dirt at all times. Mosquitos happen around the 3rd or 4th day. Then i use a cup and dip into water. Theres probably about 35 mosquito babies in the cup . Sometimes even more. Then i pour into fish bowl.
@maliathestar3 жыл бұрын
@@MariFernie during rainy seasons and warm summers I inevitably find places where stagnant water has accumulated. Before I dispose of the water I’ve found I scoop some water while they are all resting on the surface, before they know I’m there. If you tap the glass you caught them in, they usually get scared and bolt to the bottom of the glass. I slowly pour off the extra stagnant water, being careful not to let any of them swim out (sometimes there are one or two brave souls that go to the edge but they mostly huddle in a group together when I do this). After I pour off that extra yucky water I fill the glass with tap water and put plastic wrap over the top so that none escape if they happen to evolve into flying mosquitoes while I’m waiting for the water to settle and the swimming mosquitoes to relax. Usually an hour but sometimes I’m impatient. I use a turkey baster to suck up enough for my betta to eat and squirt it into the tank. My betta will charge around gobbling them up in a matter of minutes. He usually makes a pretty impressive bubble nest after his mosquito larvae feasts. Quite the treat for a lucky betta. If any mosquitoes have evolved and are waiting at the top for me, I put my hand over the plastic wrap on the top of the glass, turn it upside down and swirl the glass around. It drowns the flying ones enough to collect them in a spoon and crush them in a paper towel so that they don’t overpopulate and bite back.

Dexter you are right, I live in Russia, it is very difficult for us to feed Betta fry. Especially when they are just starting to eat. We start feeding Artemia only after 4-5 days, and before that we feed it with ciliates. We also have to buy mosquito larvae in the store and therefore it is not profitable to grow Betta for sale by doing business with us. You can just go broke. We also have a harsh climate, half of the year we have winter, half spring-summer-autumn))) The costs of heating water, lighting, water supply, all this ruins us. But there are true fans who breed Betta for the soul.
