@@AnthonyWilliams-li5mz Look I am a huge fan of Bette as well but as great as Bette was in Baby Jane, that year nobody else deserved an Oscar for best actress more than Ann Bancroft. She was giving one of the greatest performances ever on the silver screen (alongside the equally great Patty Duke of course) in The Miracle Worker. They both deservedly won an Oscar on their nominated category that year.

Bette Davis did her own makeup for 'Baby Jane.' The super stars of her era learned from the best studio makeup guys, so she was able to elaborate just how scary she would come across on the screen. The fact it was filmed in black & white served to intensify the madness. Thank director Robert Aldrich for giving Ms. Davis the freedom to exploit insanity. Just brilliant.

This is the saddest moment of the film. I feel compassion for Jane. She is a grown up woman acting as a little girl. We realised that Jane is completely insane in a horrible way. And the music helps a lot. The tune is supposed to be charming and sweet, and performing by Bette Davis becomes grotesque and poignant.

@babyjenks1784
@babyjenks1784 3 жыл бұрын
The kind of funny thing about this is that in the "past" Jane had to dance with her arm up to reach her daddy because he was so much taller than her. She was also singing a sort of sappy song about a girl writing a letter to her Daddy in heaven. Well now Jane is an "old woman" and she is singing a song about Daddy being in heaven (which her Daddy is obviously passed away at this point in the movie) and it is like she is reaching her hand up towards heaven dancing with her Daddy (if that makes sense)
@Fuenzzalicious
@Fuenzzalicious 3 жыл бұрын
@@babyjenks1784 She is doing the same show with the same song, same dance and doing the same gestures of a dance number that she knows perfectly well. Everything is the same except the time... it has been a long time, she is no longer a little girl and her father is no longer alive. She also cried before while watching herself in the mirror as an old woman, but her behavior is inmature, as a kid... you describe a saner woman Who really understand The reality...

@@patricknoland7402 Bette Davis smoked like a chimney, probably the main cause of her aging so badly.

I love her siging in this it's not that it's the best siging because trust me it's not it's just her voice matches what the character is putting out as a innocent young child.

Jane is not supposed to have a good voice at this stage, she’s supposed to sound bad, it’s only she thinks she’s still a star, so Bette singing it like that fits the scene.

Yeah, that's it! She sings it in a child-like way! It's the way that she says "dad-dee. She really hits that 2nd syllable.

Betty is at her greatest here and John Crawford and Victor blow nose reactions are priceless I think Betty is the greatest actress of all time because she would play old or ugly or crazy or anything as long as it was a juicy role and after seeing her play it you could never forget her because she was the ultimate film actors you can't do it
