If you make a bracelet or earrings to sell with crystals or firepolish beads take the leftovers (we all end up with leftovers) make very simple matching pendant & offer to include it free w/their purchase. Most people see a free w/purchase usually swipe it up

Looking around the market to start a small business I see so many people not charging for the time it took them to make something or hardly.. I feel like it's almost impossible to sell my work at a fair price and live of it or even make half an income to live off next to a regular part-time job... Please if you sell (give away) beyond friends and family charge for your time... With the extra money you make you can support a good cause if you don't need it to live of or support someone in need.. It makes it fair to us that want to live off of it but it can help many others as well!

Thank you Allie for your information on pricing jewelry. A lot of people have discussed this but are usually very vague about the numbers in their examples. Great video.

Very helpful. I always think that I shouldn't charge much bc it won't sell. I usually charge for cost alone and not my time. I also don't want to start a business I bead for relaxation and fun. I don't want it to be a task. That said I deserve a profit too. Thanks for the video

Was looking at several handmade jewelry websites as a time killer and one that I came across had ridiculously high prices and I found myself wondering how much of it actually sells.

Generally I use good stuff very expensive beads mostly gemstones. I've given away Tahitian Pearls on sterling silver chain. And yes I said I've given away Tahitian Pearls!!! I bought a strand that came with a bracelet and earrings for a great deal at $350 I took everything apart and did my own pieces then stupidly gave them away. I regret it now though.

Thank you for info ,very good food for thought ! Pricing is terrible task ,when some things can take 16 hours or more and material cost can be high also . You also have to factor your shipping ,exchange and customs if any on your material pricing . I think value of your time , keeping in mind about material cost that you do not totally end up actually paying your customers piece just might be how I should start thinking about pricing . Drives me nut's to count how many 15/o did I used ,what is unit price or every jump ring or head pin and so on ...... to get price . That is why I do not generally sell but spend a lot money buying materials :P I thing by now I have few hundred different pieces around collecting dust ,might leave them in my will with family Cast Iron to kiddies :P

I buy beads from the suppliers.Some materials like earrings with different clips and beads with some wire tools are more expensive.I know how to price my products if I buy beads from online retailers.A lot of hard work and preseverance:).

I have been trying to figure out how I should price my items, and everything has said to take time+materials and times it all by three and most of the time, that just seems to expensive to me, and this seems to be more of a simple way to go about it, I'd rather take what my time is worth and add to it if I've used more expensive beads in something that was simpler and took no time at all to make...

It's so sad and irritating that people have been so dumbed down by cheap Chinese goods at Walmart that they honestly don't know what anything is actually worth and they expect top quality fast and cheap. I do plan on making and selling jewelry, mostly semi precious stones and crystals, but I will price it at exactly what it, and I, am worth. If people want cheap plastic crap made in sweatshops by barefoot children, then they can go to Walmart and the dollar store.

What you can do selling your jewelry when you’re by your products yet craft stores or Walmarts
@HiItsIrene

Ok I have found jewelry that you can change into a pendant or into earrings. My choice is earrings. So it’s not truly a handmade item other than converting it into earrings what would be a fair price. Example it costs $10 then you use some jump rings and earring hooks how do you fairly price this because I am all about converting things into earrings. Thank you
@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 11 ай бұрын
Hello there! You need to take into account how much you spend on all of your supplies as well as your time. If you're converting pre-made components (not handmade) then, yes, you may be able to charge less but remember to take into account what you spent on those components. Best advice is to use your judgement. Be fair but don't sell yourself short.

Would finding a consignment shop be a good idea ? And a 70/30 split ( me 70 ) with them be good ? How about presentation , I have necklace racks and bracelet holders with mirrors and fake fur, would that work ? I also thought about selling on line like a place called Etsy , what are your thoughts on that ? Thank you in advance ‘
@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 2 жыл бұрын
70/30 is a good split. Etsy is a very competitive market and it hard to gain traction for sales. As far as display, these are great questions to ask in the Facebook Group "Beading and Jewelry Making" - Allie Buchman.

I may just lack confidence in my items, but I don't think I can realistically charge very much for my time at all, and still sell stuff. Not looking at similar items on etsy anyway..🤷‍

How I'm gonna sell a 10$ jewelry when my material to make it are mostly 10$ and up.. Plus labor +packaging +profit... I'm not gonna sell anything for 10-20$ it cost more to make it and package it.. You gotta be kidding.. You undercutting everyone if you sell bracelets for 10-20$.. Especially when you use gemstones like me.. Also I'm not gonna look other sellers on Etsy cause some sell for 10$ some sell for 100$ bracelets.. You not gonna sell less if you charge the right price, you will have better clientele, cause those who want quality will willing to pay for that
