Something that really sticks out to me is that this is the first time Mike has killed anyone since the men who killed his son. Since arriving in Albuquerque, Mike has had bad men in his sights several times (Tuco, Hector, other members of the cartel), and yet the first time he actually pulls the trigger is to kill a man whose hands were spotless.

For a relative amount of "spotless". Werner did know he was signing on to build an illegal lab so he was "in the game" in Mike's black and white worldview, but yeah Mike is obviously very distraught over it.

In the scene where Jimmy is talking to Kristy Esposito, he tells her "You don't matter all that much to them". That is basically verbatim what Chuck said to Jimmy the last time they spoke. "You don't matter all that much to me." It's proof that those words have been living in Jimmy's head rent-free all this time.

Jimmy was crying because when he spoke those words, that was the first time he admitted to himself what HE is and he KNOWS that the way they looked at that kid was how Chuck and those board members look at him and he felt like he was being held down AGAIN from beyond the grave. He can't get rid of Chuck but he is starting to embrace the Sual persona..for now.

That's a great theory and i hate to be that guy...but ThE DiReCtOrS sAiD "He's crying because Everything that was left of him hoping died. His hope that he would one day be as respected as his brother - dead, his hope that he would share an office with Kim once again - dead, his hope that he would get his license back - dead, His hope that society will someday see that’s he’s more than just slippin jimmy - dead. So he cries and says “no, no, no” as he loses faith in everything he has ever hoped for. Hope was all he had but it seems there is no hope for him after all." Not the most insightful explanation as Jimmy doesn’t strike me as someone who easliy loses hope but he has been in the dumps for 12 months and that bar hearing rejection must have affected him more than I realised so i guess it kinda works

I feel like people read way too much into this which is unsurprising since the fandom is very biased against Chuck. Jimmy knew Chuck could sing but was shy so he wanted him to have fun and pulled him out of his shell. He wanted Chuck to have the spotlight. Do ya'll not have siblings. It's not that deep.
@Celeborn93

@@BhBc8f8 "the fandom is biased against Chuck" Well, that's a statement. Goes to show you don't really know how a fandom works. It's made up of both majorities and minorities and everything in-between. And i've seen plenty people praise chuck, not only as a character but also as a person, despite his shortcomings. Also, yeah the scene is exactly how you describe it. But there is obvious symbolism included in almost every shot, and plenty that validates the theoretical thought process of the comments above. It's nothing new.. The creators are very meticulous and pretty much every single scene has some foreshadowing element or symbolic meaning from the camera angle & lightning, to the juxtaposition of the environment vs the characters etc. It's not about being "that deep" - Which by the way is an inflated term that has zero relevancy. I have siblings, and i understood the scene for what is was. But that doesn't mean i'll stop looking for symbolism etc. in every shot? Understanding the main point of a scene doesn't exclude any adding factors that could've been added to make the scene have a larger impact in the present or future.

@@BhBc8f8 A lot of people do read it that way but a lot of people also dont. Ive heard it described one way that i really like: It's one of jimmy's best cons, basically tricking chuck into coming up and having fun. Chuck is clearly an amazing singer and jimmy probably isn't, but he overplays it here or maybe just signs up to sing because he knows its the best way to help his brother out. @@electricalastro Yes. The show communicated that Walter came to view Jesse as a son figure multiple times. He described him as a son to Jane’s father and when Walter Jr was taking care of him Walter mistakenly called him Jesse. Walter had multiple instances where having Jesse killed would have been the best thing to do but he wouldn’t even hear it as a viable option. I think people seriously forget how much awful and destructive stuff Jesse did in season 3. And Season 1-4 Walter ≠ season 5 Walter. He wasn’t focused on building an empire then, and keeping Jesse around was not really a priority of his. Keeping Jesse alive was though. That’s not pragmatism and it’s certainly not manipulation like people try to make it seem like.

I feel like Jonathan Banks is so underrated. All of us BB/BCS fans take his performance for granted. He is so damn good. The scene with Fred where he is putting on a facade of a nice old man, and suddenly shifts into Mike when Mike is probing for info like the security cameras. Or his final scene with Werner where he is holding down all his feelings, and the entire performance is really subtle. That scene just breaks my heart man. It’s all just so strong. as with all of Jimmy's "performances", I feel like the reason it worked so well is that there was a kernel of truth to it. he pulls from his actual emotions but then embellishes a bit. like that scene in the car was real emotion, as was (I feel) some of the things he said about Chuck during the appeal hearing. he's just really good at manipulating the truth. Bob Odenkirk is a phenomenal actor and it really shows in this episode. I will say that this is one of the few times that seeing Chuck makes me sad; that cold open was so brilliantly done. ❤

I think the scene with Kristy is so important not only because it reminds Jimmy of himself but it shows how the people in law have a certain superiority to them, much like Chuck. For a bit we used to just think Chuck was the main reason but now we see a lot of the law firm is no different. Stuck up rich assholes with massive superiority complexes. (Except Howard honestly he's a nice dude) When you're willing to just cripple a kids chances at improving their life and following their dreams simply because they made a mistake that they already atoned for, how the hell can you expect them to better themselves? It's like trying to get a person to run a marathon but you're constantly hitting their legs with a crowbar.

How on earth is not singling them out for a scholarship "crippling their chances"? They're not throwing her into jail. They're not saying she shouldn't be allowed to pursue her dreams. Thomas Schanuz about Bob’s layered acting in his speech in this episode, “...he does these little things that tell you that it’s not true. He felt it was important to have these little bits where it came through that this is a deception and it’s really subtle. I can’t even describe what it is but I know he’s doing it here. We talked about it on set, there’s so many layers. It’s through this process he’s (Jimmy/Saul) actually become a great actor. Contrasting him at the scene at the grave site, where he’s saying ‘Boo-hoo’ and his (Jimmy/Saul) acting is downright terrible. Where here he’s tapped into something that our greatest actors do which is to draw on this real emotion and to do something that’s not real.” So yeah he’s playing it in a way as the audience who know Saul you can see the deception but the people in the show who don’t know him as much as we do can’t see it. I love that scene so much. Such a great and major step for him to become Saul. Bob did an amazing job.

God a superb episode both in terms of performances and the writing. The way we as an audience were hit with a double blow in this. First with the death of Werner Ziegler then the reveal that Jimmy was playing them all over his brother yet again. I think what’s the saddest thing about that back story like you guys pointed it out them singing and chuck makes it about him when there is people around. However when jimmy and chuck are just by themselves and jimmy starts singing it chuck joins in not being an attention seeker and singing together with jimmy as he’s got no one’s attention to compete with his brother for and it’s literally just them doing a wholesome brother sing along. I feel as though this shows that if both chuck and jimmy managed to work through their problems through a therapist they would have been great as lawyers together. Chuck was the only person who if he truly wasn’t jealous of jimmy and didn’t hurt him for his success he would have fully been able to make jimmy move on from his slipping jimmy persona as the respect he has for him is paramount and he’d be ecstatic to do the things he does alongside him but chuck just couldn’t let it go and sent jimmy to the dog house and all that hard work in the mail room where jimmy worked his butt off legitimately which I think we can all agree he in no chance would work that legitimately even at the start of the series and the resentment and slipping jimmy returned and later it’s spiralled and finally chuck himself created slipping jimmy with a machine gun aka saul goodman.

I always got the impression that Gus's respect for Mike and his judgement is enough that if he had just found Werner and sent the wife back and that was it, then he would have allowed him to finish the job and go home; that was what the conversation between him and Mike was about. But once Lalo knows about him, and has heard him speak about Kai, at that point it's beyond retrieval and the loose end needs to be tied up.

Seeing the flash from Mikes gun before hearing the sound... man, the attention to detail on this show and of course breaking bad was just on their own levels. Not to be compared to any other show on television.

Still one of my favorite episodes ever. I didn't fall for any of Jimmy's scams back in S1 but this one got me good ngl. It's alright Kim I was a Sucker too 😂

I love the juxtaposition between Jimmy's conversation with Krista and Mike's conversation with Werner. In both cases you have characters who genuinely feel remorse for what they've done and want to move forward but unfortunately they live in a world that defines people by their mistakes and doesn't give them the opportunity to grow or change.

its funny because he's still listening to Chuck. No more big song and dances about how bad he feels.

Next week the final episode of the BCS releases. The universe that was created back in 2008 with BB ends next week. The whole crew has been outstanding, constantly delivering the best content the television has to offer to date.
