@@youtubestayatyourrootsforfsake Mike said that Walt was a time bomb ticking away. Mike was in a business where saying the wrong thing to the wrong guy could end with him getting shot for it. He should’ve been smarter and not have just gone off. What he did think was gonna happen by doing that especially with Walt’s ego, that he was just going to stand there listen to him and take it and then just walk away especially because he wanted the names of his guys?

@@Wolf-wc1js exactly. Mike underestimated Walt and thought he could say what he wanted. He doesn't recognise Walt has taken over from Gus after killing him. What I love the most is how they reframed Breaking Bad. It was originally about a man's cancer diagnosis turning him into an amoral monster. Now, it's a story about how two men collided at one point in time and turned themselves into the worst versions of themselves. I'm pretty sure this is what Gould meant when he said this last season would change our perspective of BB.
@zekeiwa5837
@zekeiwa5837 Жыл бұрын
How does that change anything? You are reducing the entirety of BCS to Saul meeting Walt, even though its clear both shows deal with the nature of people and the consequences of going further than they should. All main characters suffer the same fate of having what they wanted and losing it all in a moment because of a poor choice, so no, I don't see how BB's context has changed at all

Yeah, but Saul is one of the key reasons Walt's got to where he is. Maybe Walt would have rose to power as quick as he did even without their help, maybe not, but the thing is, a lot of these key players helped Walt be where he was by the later seasons. Hell, Saul was the one who told them to launder and properly manage their money and they had no clue about that. Like a job, having connections helped. And boy, Saul had connections that Jesse and Walt used. Jesse was a mess when Jane died and the only reason Mike met him was because he called Saul and sent Mike.

Dislike this style of looking at things, you can reduce any character to being this important. "Combo was the most important character in Breaking Bad. Imagine if he hadn't given the RV to Jesse, they would have had no place to cook and likely been stopped from ever cooking meth in the first place. Combo's death is also the catalyst for the tension between Gus and Walt, if Combo never died Walt would have had no reason to kill those dealers to save Jesse and Gus would have never had to be taken out later down the line. Yes, one could say without Combo there is no Heisenberg empire." Both series are small events inside episodes snowballing out of control and gradually building, no one character changed everything on their own.

Nah, I don't think Saul and Gus ever need to meet or be aware of each other aside from passing remarks. This scene was just pure madness. Saul could've left walt to die but he went to him and that was the point from which walt destroyed everybody's lives. So once again; chuck was right all along in chicanery when he said "I love my brother. There's nothing malicious in Jimmy. (But) He has way of doing the worst things that sound almost noble..." And that was a pure description of saul giving walt a chance. Unleashing a monster...

These two characters have a great dynamic. They both are able to read people really well. Jimmy can tell the type of person someone is so well because he’s conned so many. Mike can tell the read the type of people as well as he’s dealt with so many criminals in his time as a cop and criminal. It’s interesting to see them go back and forth on the subject if Walt was worth working with.

Crazy watching this scene after Breaking Bad. Mike saying that about Walt. That he’s small potatoes. Yet he gets killed by him. It’s no exaggeration that Walt literally destroyed everything this show built. Every character in the criminal plot is dead because of him. Mike, Gus, the Salamancas and the Cartel. All dead by Breaking Bad. It’s so sad in a way. All these seasons, seeing these characters’ lives, only for them to all end up dead. By some loser that everybody underestimated. Only Saul and Jesse remain.

It’s kinda fascinating how even from this particular point of view we see how much of a gamble it was to take Walter as a criminal partner. And Mike was right walter didn’t know what the fuck he was doing as a criminal until season 5 of BB, and even then it was with the help of other people. It amazes me that Saul and Gus both still risked it all on Walter, I guess the money they were guaranteed to bring in because of the quality of the meth was just too hard to deny. But still I wonder how Saul sold Gus on employing Walter. Maybe we will still see it still but I still find it hard to believe with Mike saying absolutely not when it came to Walter, Gus still did it because he needed a cook for the Super lab.

I know a lot of people want to think Walt was some mastermind and while he was a brilliant genius, Mike is right that Walt was an amateur. He told Jesse to expand the territory just to make more money but clearly didn’t account for other drug crews. And then when he kills Gus and becomes the new kingpin he starts whining about having to pay the drivers/mules and how they made less money than with Gus. And then he starts working with a Neo Nazi gang and thinks he can control them. He was a total amateur because of his greed and ego. But admittedly in the final episode, after finally keeping his ego in check and control, he does become a mastermind.

I have a different take on this. Mike was not underestimating Walter. This is due to this particular episode corresponding with Breaking Bad's s2e8, where they abduct Saul. Some three episodes later in Breaking Bad, Walter meets with Fring about their first deal for $1.2 million in cash. My guess is -- Mike steers Saul away because Gus already has plans for Walter, not because Mike is underestimating him. But because they're going to use Walter. And they don't want Saul meddling in that, as they're already two steps ahead of him.
