That's fucking terrifying. Imagine you went back in time and told them "you will become mentally insane, and end your life in an house fire, burning all of your belongings. And your brother will become a conman, working for the most dangerous of cartels in all of America and indirectly killing thousands, and finally sitting in jail for the rest of his life." Like, they're so pure and innocent... what happened? ):
@NormalChannel95 Жыл бұрын
even more haunting is that if you told them that, they wouldn't know who would do what and which event will come after, it would make sense one of them will commit the conman action first and the other finds out and goes mentally insane, however as we all know, that's not what happened, yet it makes sense which is terrifying and heartbreaking.

The first thing Chuck does when Jimmy voices concern is spoil the entire story. "She'll be fine, Jimmy." Instead, he should have said, "I don't know, let's keep reading to find out!" No wonder Jimmy McGill broke bad. This was the first step Jimmy took towards his transformation to Saul Goodman.

I would argue that’s the wrong takeaway from their relationship. Chuck DID give Jimmy a lot of actual encouragement. He got him out of a legal situation that was completely of Jimmy’s own making. It goes double because Chuck is someone who truly feels the responsibility of the law, meaning that almost-corrupting it to defend his brother was a hard thing to do. He offered him support with changing careers, as he knew Jimmy’s moral flexibility made him a dangerous candidate for a career defending the law. Before Jimmy even learned about Chuck conspiring against him, he pulled a morally dubious stunt with the fake billboard rescue. Jimmy did that even when he believed he had Chuck on his side, going out of his way to hide the truth from Chuck. Jimmy’s less-than-scrupulous nature was not something that resulted from Chuck’s betrayal, but rather exacerbated by it. One could argue that if Jimmy truly remained on the straight and narrow, Chuck would’ve never gone behind his back against him. To assign the full blame to either one of them misses the point.
@charliedeese62726 ай бұрын
@@Night5225 To be fair, Jimmy pulled the billboard stunt AFTER he had been denied to work at HHM by Chuck. And he was having serious financial trouble because of that, so far as having to drive around in that shitty yellow car. The billboard wasn't superfluous, he genuinely needed clientele I think you're mostly right with what you are saying, but I definitely could imagine a universe where Jimmy got to work alongside his brother from the start, and because of that never ended up as a crook lawyer. I think more influential than anything Chuck ever did while he was alive, though, was his tragic death. Jimmy was fucked up by that and the pain definitely lead him to being a worse person

@@baaaldur I love how each finale has a sequence which added to Jimmy's "Breaking": In season 1, it was Marco's death In 2, Chuck recording him In 3, Chuck dying In 4, Jimmy regaining his license and adopting the Saul Goodman name In 5, it was both Kim deciding to help Saul bring down Howard and Lalo surviving and going back for revenge And while Saul had already fallen by 6×10, you can argue that the Nippy scam was the beginning of the end for Saul
