The writing on Better Call Saul is extremely impressive, especially when you consider they could have fallen into the "prequel problem" where it relies on the success of the original. For my money, BCS stands on its own two feet. I don't feel like I'm watching a "Breaking Bad TV Prequel", I'm watching the Better Call Saul TV show. Period.

Every time I watch BCS I can't believe how good the writing is but also the acting, the camera, the details, the quirky ideas. This show is levels beyond everything other shows do. No character or scene is ever wasted, it all feels so dense and efficient but also 100 % organic and authentic at all times. I'm so grateful for having this show.

The writing combined with the willingness of the actors to completely get into these characters have made this even better than Breaking Bad. this show is miles better than breaking bad I feel, I actually started watching the first season of breaking bad, got a bit bored. started from better caul saul, got to season 3 or 4 I think, then finished breaking bad and then season 5. it really feels like BCS is more fleshed out in almost every way but sensationally like breaking bad was. it's funnier, the character development is one of the best I saw on tv and movies, the camera work and cinematography is beyond words, and the dialogue is so perfect. better caul saul makes me wanna create something. what this show does best I think is the alone times, the quiet moments where people just think, it's not shown much in other media, you can learn a lot about someone when he is alone.

I love how they say they have a continuity Bible. Shows that they didn’t necessarily plan for everything like people seem to think they did, but they paid enough attention to their own details so that everything has a natural and logical flow. Makes it feel like a living organism, and like this all genuinely did happen prior to Breaking Bad… Until Walt showed up and destroyed everything (which I see more and more as I’m watching BCS)

BCS is a phenomenal show that had a problem facing it right from the start because we already knew where Jimmy would end up. They have established that there will be story post Breaking Bad, so that’s intriguing. I thought there would be another serious problem after killing off Chuck, because the dynamic between Jimmy and Chuck was so powerful and the fact that Michael McKean is such a fantastic actor. Michael really helped to carry the first three season as such an important character to the plot. I felt that season four did seem a bit slow and lost much drama without that dynamic that Chuck brought to every episode. It felt like they really needed the addition of another powerful and interesting character to bring that tension and boy did they deliver. Too bad they didn’t introduce Lalo until season five, because season four really needed a shot in the arm. I began to fear BCS was going to get boring, but I should have more faith in Vince Gillian than that. When they first introduced the character of Lalo, I assumed that, “here we go with just another unhinged Salamanca, like Hector, the twins or Tuco.”. I was sure he would have a similar presence, but damned I was wrong. Tony Dalton really brought a fresh approach to this character and seems more like someone who could run such a large operation. Lalo is the very first charming Salamanca. He has a more calming presence while things are going good, but has shown he can also be as scary as any other Salamanca when pushed. Lalo seems more in control of his own temperament than any Salamanca to date. It was unique to have him control his men without the typical unhinged anger, temper tantrums we have seen from Salamancas in the past. It is obvious that he is someone to fear, but doesn’t feel the need to scare everyone by going off on violent rampages. I think this quiet use of power is far more intimidating, because we know that underneath it all is another brutal Salamanca and when he is finally triggered there will be hell to pay. We all learned how scary he could be at the end of last season when he went to confront Jimmy about his car in the desert. It seemed that either Jimmy or Lalo had to die. Since Mike had Lalo in his rifle site and Mike rarely misses his target, it seemed Lalo was going to meet Hector and the Twins. Each time he made Jimmy retell the story in the desert, the tension in the room rose another 50°. Damn was that a good scene. My wife and I would move a few inches closer tho the edge of our seat each time and Jimmy stayed with each detail ever time, but he was sweating. I felt so fearful for him because his biggest worry was Kim and getting her the hell out of there and I could relate because that would be my biggest worry. I would want my wife to see me killed either and the fear he would kill her as a witness. I was squirming in my seat to say the least. That was until we saw the new Kim step up to the plate and we all saw what a fine actress Rhea Seehorn really is. Wow! It made me realize how many seasons she has been wasted. I mean Kim has always been a good character, but now I’ve seen just how great she can be. It pisses me off that Rhea was not even nominated for best supporting actress, especially since Emilia Clarke was nominated several times, and even though I think Emilia has a magnetic personality, that personality never shines through in her characters, which are always very stale and shallow. If Emilia would just play herself she would be great, because she has the cutest personality in Hollywood, but damn, she can’t act worth shit. I’m sorry to her fans, but she really can’t act. She somehow felt that Daenerys Targaryen needed to be stoic, therefore one dimensional and boring. It didn’t help that she was surrounded by some of the best actors and actresses in the business. Comparing her to Lena Heady is not really fair because of the experience difference, but having them in the same series made it hard not to compare. Damn, was Lena great and completely wasted in the last couple seasons as she just stood in the castle staring out the window! Fuck you D&D! Emilia played the exact same boring character in The Terminator movie, the worst Sarah Conner ever and in the movie “Solo”, which was an underwhelming movie anyway. She always plays the same flat character in every movie. Why? She is so adorable and fun in interviews. Every time I see an interview with her, I think, “why doesn’t she just act like that in her movies?”, she great, magnetic and fun. I just don’t get it, but when you’re in a series that has Charles Dance (Wow!), Peter Dinklage (it doesn’t get any better), Lena Heady (unbelievable) Sean Bean and so many others, you need to really add depth to your character to not be the one dragging along. Most everyone I know felt the same as I. As soon as they would cut to the Daenerys scene is Essos, our attention would drift off immediately knowing it was like the brakes had been hit, going for 70mph down to 30mph. Sorry for the off-the-subject rant, but I really think a hundred actresses in Hollywood could have played Daenerys Targaryen with more depth of personality than Clarke did and she was only nominated for those Emmys because it was Game Of Thrones. GOT began as a Masterpiece of TV, then slowly devolved into one of the worst big budget television shows HBO ever offered, once the source material ran out and D&D refused to hand it over to competent writers and insisted on writing the remaining story themselves. Remember, these are the two guys who thought making Deadpool without a mouth was great writing in “Wolverine Origin”. The “Merch With A Mouth” didn’t have one. We can’t blame Ryan Reynolds for ruining it, because he was brilliant once someone decided to do the character with a mouth. I’m sorry, but if Emilia Clarke could be nominated for an Emmy, several times (thankfully never winning), then Rhea Seehorn should have been nominated following season five, her best acting yet and way, way, way better than anything delivered by Clarke! I can’t imagine her trying to deliver that scene, Zzzzz.... snoozeville, Zzzzzzzz... Seehorn had my hands clenched around the arms of the chair. I think I put permanent indentations in the leather. Lalo has really helped save the day for BCS since the loss of Chuck. I can’t wait to see what Lalo will do now. We know he is going after Nacho, who is in Mexico on foot, not a good likelihood of getting out of there and back to the US. Gus claimed those guys he hired were the best in the business. Damn, I hate to see what the worst would do. Both guys climbing into that tunnel together was the stupidest thing I have seen. Why wouldn’t you have one stand guard over the entrance? Because story, I guess. They made Lalo’s job of killing them a cinch. Maybe Gus can find some better mercs next time he decides to take out a Salamanca?

Better Call Saul has given so much, but, maybe by some karmic force, it also took something away from me. I was watching a series, that i've heard had some buzz around. It has a really interesting premise, really good characters, good acting, clever direction, unique style, it was entertaining, but i couldn't get invested in it. The writing broke my immersion every time a character did something out of character, just because the writers wanted the plot to movie into a specific direction. It happened so many times each episode, that i kind of lost intrest.

Love how they get characters out of problems. Forces writers to be very creative and logical too. It’s something you miss from say superhero/fantasy movies where you can just write some silly plot device to get them out of a bad situation
