I'd like to share something with you as someone dealing/dealt with the same addiction. I want you to understand, that you, CAN'T break the addiction, if you could, you would, because you definetly want to. You will not be judged nor will you be condemned, Jesus has already imputed his righteousness on you. I've see more progress this year than I have in my life and it's all because I have been able to surrender to the spirit within me and within you. Remember, your spirit, the holy spirit and flesh are constantly at war with each other, it's the holy spirit that defeats temptations, not you (your flesh). Pray for deliverance, but you MUST have faith that that deliverance will come, don't remind yourself of the gospel, you know it already because you already want to turn from your sins. I read these verses and study them to walk in the spirit, these verses give me the strength to abstain, I can't explain how, I just know that whenever I pray and read these verses, it's so much more easy to defeat temptation, I have slipped, but I run right back to the word and I keep improving and keep building up my strength because that's why God hasn't taken it away from you, he is building you up for the rest of your life, don't be tormented, you are a brother, sealed in the palm of our father, justified by Jesus our Savior. He loves you, if a feeling of condemnation comes over you, that is not God, that is the Devil. I've noticed, the days I spend reading the bible and praying the most are the days where temptation is both the weakest and my strength is the greatest. Whenever I have God or a teaching or a bible verse on my mind, I tend to overcome temptations way more. Whenever you are tempted, understand that it's a temptation billions of other Christians also experience, you are fully capable of overcoming it and God himself provides the way out, he himself provides the method to overcome it and from my experience it's the verses in the bible. Remember, when Jesus was tempted by Satan himself, he ONLY used the word of God to defeat each temptation, he lectured Satan with the word of God. Whenever we pray, God hears it, and if it is according to his will, he will answer it. You breaking free of addiction is most certainly apart of his will, so that you will give him glory and praise and have a testimony to share with others, just as I am doing for you now. The thing is, the way God may answer your prayer may not be exactly the way you want, we both want him to purge the addiction from us once and for all, but maybe, there is something along this journey that he needs us to understand or acquire, I think one of those things is learning how exactly to deal with temptation so that in the future we will have this wisdom and experience already. Rememeber I said our flesh (outward man) and spirit (inward man) are constantly at war. Don't the let casualties of this war get you down, your flesh is cursed to sin until it dies but the spirit given to you by God, never sins and will never die, focus on that fact, don't lose heart. Both of these verses show that the armour and weaponry given to you to overcome temptations are not physical, it is God's word. Keep his word in his hear and on your mind as much as possible, for me this works a lot. I keep thinking about teachings such as the ones Onorato makes in his videos, I think about stories in the bible, sometimes I will be so in deep in the spirit in my room and I will preach a sermon to the wall, just because I have a thought or lesson on my mind, I meditate on teachings and the bible and it's in these times that I feel as if temptation can't come near me, I feel like I have Satan's neck under my foot, I might get faced with a temptation and I immediately destroy it. To sum it up, the holy spirit is within you and the bible has been given to you, these are your weapons against addiction and they work very, very well. Feel free to ask me any other questions brother, sorry for the long passage but I felt led to testify to you, one day you will testify to someone else. God Bless Brother @@patcola7335

We just had a (lady) preacher in the church I frequent this sunday teaching in no uncertain terms that this passage says that you will lose your salvation if you get entangled into sin after coming to faith. She also mocked "cheap grace theology" and in her opinion the false teachers in this passage were teaching "cheap grace" (she got that from the "promise the liberty" part). I was so disappointed about the perspective that she took. Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since Arminianistic theology is somewhat popular in these crowds. (It's extremely hard to find a true Free Grace church where I'm at, and it's emotionally difficult to turn my back on others and try to find a new church) I didn't confront the lady personally, but I think I'll need to send this video to her. :p Thanks Onorato!

Dear Brother in Christ Onorato, Appreciate all your videos. They are certainly encouraging in times of instability in our walk in Christ. I don't think this verse or chapter is about divine chastisement. It's clear, in context, Peter is talking about false prophets, who only bring deceit lies, trying to destroy the way of truth (Gospel) and profiting off of those saved in Christ. Peter likens them to Balaam, who knowing the truth of God tried make profit by going against Isreal. They are are waterless springs because they don't have the living water (Holy spirit) in them. That is why they are fleshly, cause that is all they know. So, when Peter says, it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness (believe in the Gospel), he says it because they were preached onto the Gospel, yet still rejected it. Just like Baalam. Also Lot, as we all know was no where near righteous. He slept with his daughters, even offered them up to the angels. Look at all the sins he committed, even though he didn't like the people in Sodom, he still chose to remain there (until the Lord delivered him and his family). However, he was righteous because he believed God (like Abraham), That is why these false prophets, in context, are dogs returning to their own vomit. They are not sons of God, because they do not believe in the Gospel. So, Peter warns the sons of God to be careful, because they dwell among them in the Church. It is not above God disciplining His children. Although, it is truth that God does do it, as Hebrews 12 says. But this verse is not about the save believer (heir to great things He has promised). OSAS, Amen.

"Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter." ~ 1 Peter 4:12-16 "And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." ~ James 1:2-4 "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all." ~ Psalm 34:19 "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." ~ Philippians 3:13-14 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven." ~ Matthew 5:3-12 "Look, I go forward, but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him; When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him. But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." ~ Job 23:8-10 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 11:30, “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.” Physical ailments or premature death can all be forms of chastisement. I had a dream I was taken to heaven by God and he scolded me. During my dream, God transported me instantly. I was in a big empty space in heaven and I already knew why I was there as soon as he plucked me. I could understand God speaking to me in my head. He said why are you (I for got what I word was but I think it was congregating) with demons. I apologized and asked God to forgive me. I told him I would forget the word I learned. In the dream I was talking to a demon and learned things I shouldn’t of learned. This dream made me realize how in the past God has been looking out for me, showing me things to come and answering my prayers. The dream really put it in perspective how he is watching me and cares for me. If he didn’t care for me then he wouldn’t have scolded me or corrected me. I felt that I wronged him after I woke up but after realizing he has been actively communicating with me verbally in my dreams I’m happy even for him correcting me. I don’t know the meaning of the dream but maybe I wondered somewhere I shouldn’t have in my dream?

If you are born again you are forgiven for all your sins, past, present, and future, and are eternally sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption. You must be born of the Spirit, not water baptism. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is a one time payment for all sin. We received the gift of eternal life from God when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Water baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Being water baptized is a sign of allegiance to the Lord, and you shouldn’t apologize for being water baptized. We are saved by grace through faith alone, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Getting baptized is a work.

@@MetanoiaAndBelieve there’s nothing wrong with water baptism. Water baptism is for after you’re saved. I would recommend water baptism, but since you already did it it’s not necessary to do it again, and as long as it’s not confused to do anything with your salvation. If you don’t feel drawn by God to do it again, don’t, but there’s no need to apologize or ask for forgiveness to go through a water baptism to express an outward testimony of faith in Christ. Your testimony of how you came to be saved can help others.

I think he’s trying to say the end (experientially / “in the flesh”) can be worse than the beginning (experientially). For example, God chastises with sickness and even death, so before Ananias and Sapphira were Christian, they were alive, but after they became Christian and misbehaved by lying about how much they gave to the church, they died. Same goes for the gluttonous Christians who overindulged in communion and got sick. I don’t know the truth anymore though, it does feel like a stretch.

Well this is most likely why, for the past two years now, I feel as though I’ve lost my salvation. There will be no response to my post. But as someone who has trusted in Jesus as my savior since 2011, who was full of zeal, learning and blessed greatly… because I did not fully turn from my sin from before I knew Jesus, I am now in this cycle of feeling like I’ve lost my salvation, and listening to faith alone teachers, who lift my head above dark waters to barely breathe for a moment, convincing me in some manners that I can never lose my salvation and don’t need to do anything. Well I for starters do not want to sin. But I have. During most of my pilgrimage. Sexual immorality in thought and in deed to my own flesh. What I did even before knowing Jesus. Old terrible habits that did not fully subside after knowing Jesus, and learning from the Bible. So I in essence get the maximum penalty that this verse speaks of. My seeds have been sown, I’m reaping the harvest. I’m tired. I try to pray and find some sense that I haven’t lost my salvation. Probably 95% of Ono’s videos give to me confidence and security. Just like others I’ve pursued since having this feeling. But then honestly, I see this video and I’m back to feeling uncertainty and terrifying thoughts of being separated from God. Oh but wait, I can go back to other verses that say I will never cast you out…. Oh but wait, the ‘do not be deceived’ verses… I’m back to feeling ashamed and saddened. It’s too much. I believe in Jesus as my savior- I know what He has done, and what His promises are. Bottom line, I’m guilty of sin. Guilty of not fully turning from what I knew I should have. Ohhhh poor me. No. I deserve the wrath of God. I’m guilty. I know Jesus died for my sin. But with so many verses that seem to be to me , apparently an untrained mind, all of these other verses convict me, and what I have been feeling for the last two years is ultimately true. God has most likely taken His Spirit from me, because I have grieved Him. It’s bad, that as someone who thought they were in Christ, who knew the Bible, could go astray and realize that I never paid close enough attention to my obedience, and in trying to please the Lord… I thought I was. And ALL OF IT… not in a legal sense or out of merit, but strictly for relationship. So many verses that I didn’t notice over the years that seem to be like a warning to me… hey, if you don’t DO this or STOP that… well then you WONT inherit this or experience this. I’ve let God down. He’s blessed me my whole life. Gave me to His Son. Jesus forgave me of my sin. I was gifted the Spirit. And in various ways I trampled under foot all of God’s Grace! My 12 year old daughters favorite verse is the pure of heart will see God. I have failed God. And others will say, it’s not about what you do, it’s only about faith. I know that’s what it says… but I’m condemned by all the other verses and by the clarity in which my soul feels like God has removed His Spirit. Just like what happened to Saul. I even feel as though I have a tormenting spirit on top of it. There’s nothing for me to do but pray. I need to stop looking for videos and teachers of Grace, to help me. Only the Lord my God can give to me what I pray for if He’s willing. Thank you for your work in Jesus Ono.

Then the bible never should’ve had verses like whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord shall be saved and believe on the lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, it shouldve said whosoever shall call upon the name shall be saved for a time, so long as he strives to maintain and doesn’t turn away

I usually agree with your interpretations, but I don’t agree with this one. Many commentators admit that “they” in verse 20 is ambiguous. It may refer to false teachers or their victims. But “they” usually refers to false teachers throughout the entire chapter, while “you” is Peter’s saved audience, whom God knows how to rescue from trials (verse 9). Regardless, I don’t think anyone in verses 17-22 is saved. Verse 17 says the false teachers are reserved for gloomy darkness (hell- see verse 4). And verse 22 illustrates that their nature never actually changed. Eventually they gave into what they were enslaved to: sin. Also, just because they escaped by the knowledge of the Lord doesn’t mean they were saved. Verse 21 says they knew “the WAY of righteousness.” But nowhere does it say they believed it unto salvation. In fact, the entire passage is about how their true nature never really changed, even though they escaped defilement for a time. They eventually went back to what they were, slaves to sin who never came to faith. This reminds me of 1 John 2:19, where the false teachers “went out from us (the apostles)” but were never “of us” and “they went out that it might become plain that they are not of us.” And since the false teachers in 2 Peter knew the way of righteousness and rejected it, they’re now more accountable and their end is even worse. So it’s more consistent to view “they” as false teachers throughout this passage. God bless!

In my opinion, the language is indicative of a believer. In chapter 1, “that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, HAVING ESCAPED the corruption that is in the world through lust.” In chapter 2, “For if after they HAVE ESCAPED the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” The believer is secure in Christ positionally, so the false teacher’s purpose is to bring them back into bondage experientially rendering them unfruitful.
@heckbr2 Жыл бұрын
@@OnoDiamante Fair enough. Thanks for clarifying your position. You have a good point. I honestly think "they" in verse 20 could apply to both false teachers and believers "barely escaping." Verse 15 is a parallel to 20, and 15 definitely applies to false teachers who "have forsaken the right way and gone astray." In the case of the false teachers, they were never positionally saved and eventually return to their true sin nature where their end state (eternal punishment) is worse than before (chp. 2 is largely about these false teachers being proven as such). But if "they" is believers, their experiential/fellowship state is now worse than when they came to faith since they're again mired in sin and corruption. Peter (under the influence of the Spirit) might have intentionally left "they" ambiguous so the message would apply (in different ways) to both false teachers and struggling believers. I still think, however, especially with verse 22 in the immediate context, that 20 is mostly about false teachers though. I don't see how verse 22 would then apply to a believer whose positional state and nature has changed. But I would say both of our interpretations are biblical. Thanks again for your response!

@OnoDiamante @heckbr2 Hello, thank you for the video and for the comments! As an OSAS believer, this text of 2P is the one I struggle the most with. When I read the passage starting at verse 10 for example until the end of the chapter, as heckbr2 mentioned, I counted 11 times the word « they » and 2 times « these ». Over and over, when the author speaks about the false teachers he says they they they they…. So I find really very difficult to suggest that he two « they » of the verses 20-22 would suddenly speak about other people (the new believers seduced by them of verse 18). Especially also because, after mentioning the new believers seduced, there are two more « they » in the verse 19 still speaking about the false teachers, and because the new believers are never the subject of any phrase. Considering the structure of the passage it seems natural to consider « they » as being the false teachers in verses 20-22. We know that they are lost people (v.17 and also by the fact they are called « they », in contrast with the believers called « you » or « beloved » 2P3:1). My problem is that the description of v.20-22 fits with true believers, for the reason OnoDiamante gave in his reply and his video but mainly also because the words the author uses for the words « knowledge » and « known » are in greek the words epignosis and epignosko. These words describe an accurate, precise or true knowledge, unlike the word gnosis which means knowledge in a broader sense and which could mean intellectual knowledge for instance. The word epignosis attached to « the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ » (v.20) should designate believers as it is used also in verses 2 « the knowledge (epignosis) of God and Jesus our Lord » and in verse 3 « the knowledge (epignosis) of him who called us » while the author write to the recipients of the letter who are born again believers. Paul also use this word abundantly in his epistles to speak about believers. So here I’m stucked with the text until now: in verses 20-22, « they » points naturally to unbelievers who are lost but « epignosis » points to believers. This causes me difficulties do defend OSAS theology with this text as long as I do not find an answer to it. Any help would be welcome :-) @OnoDiamante thank you very much for your channel !!!

This interpretation makes very little sense. If they had never come to know the way of righteousness, then the punishment for them is Hell. Under your view, however, the punishment for he who does come to the knowledge of the truth and then falls away still goes to heaven but is disciplined by God. In no way is the latter scenario worse than the first. It makes far more sense in the latter scenario if the person is damned again and receives a harsher judgement and punishment. That interpretation makes sense of the data, whereas yours seems to suggest the opposite, that the latter scenario is actually the better one.

Could it be that the end experientially (but not spiritually / positionally) can be worse than the beginning experientially? For example, the gluttonous Christians who overindulged in communion would’ve been fine if they were gluttonous pagans who didn’t know any better, but because they had become Christian, they were held to a higher standard and were punished with sickness and death for that act?

Wouldnt this just be talking about false prophets? False prophets are worse off then they were already if they know the truth but reject it? Nowhere in the passage is chastisement mentioned and if it is about chastisement, i doubt were worse off then we were before we were saved. Hell is worse then the chastening of God. The entire context is about false prophets.

How ironic that the preacher of this message is the false teacher. The evidence is found in a simple question: If God reconciled THE WORLD (meaning EVERYONE) to Himself in Christ and is no longer holding sin against them, does Christianity and Catholicism preach Christ? The answer is no because Christians and Catholics believe people's sins are being held against them.

He actually completely misinterprets this passage 2 Peter 2 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, *those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.* So he says the latter are the ones being deceived, not the deceiver. Ok. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: That's the deceiver *for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world* Pause. He seriously argues that these are the deceived, not the deceivers. He says these are believers. It makes absolutely no sense because even with the way he's reading it, the "for" keeps connecting all these conditions with "the servants of corruption". He agrees the servants of corruption are the false prophets, not the saved. *through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,* they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" is not the same as believing the gospel. Because its possible to "aknowledge him" but as a God and then you get rejected (reprobated) 21 Because that, *when they knew God, they glorified him not as God*, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
