International cuisine: I think the problem is that we have a distinctive cuisine and we are proud of our Mediterranean food so people kind of prefer to get local than try other cuisines. Spanish taste is very mild concerning spices as you might notice. Besides international restaurants are usually more expensive than the Spanish alternative. I like tea and I really get you, It’s difficult to get good tea in Spain specially in hotels and restaurants, they serve you roibos, green tea or camomile 🥵 Spaniards are native mammals, Don’t you have enough? 🤪

Haha the last point of this made me laugh out loud. I think with the first point it's more that in Australia we have people from all over the world living and migrating there bringing their food and causes the ingredients to be grown or imported in bulk. I think people are always proud of their own food and thus want to share it and in Spain you have less of this. But it's also true you have a delicious cuisine in Spain too. I miss it when I'm away. Thanks for your comment. Glad there's another tea lover out there too 😃

I am Spanish, and I have a little comment. About the free water, if you come into a bar and order a "vaso de agua" (glass of water) instead of a "botella de agua" (bottled water), they have to, by law, give for free a glass of tap water which can be drank perfectly, at least in Madrid and the big cities. Depending on the place, probably they will even serve you a big glass with ice cubes
@ElyceBehrsin17 күн бұрын
Good tip! And in Madrid (not Barcelona) the water actually tastes delicious!
@j_laskada5 жыл бұрын
There's an important reason why you can't get water for free and that's that in most of the cities of Spain, tap water it's not really pleasant to drink(most of the times smells or has a ton of things that are not meant to be there). It's up to you to drink it but ain't drinking it... Regarding connectivity, I agree with you. I've been living in the Netherlands for quite some years and almost everything happens online(burocracy, banking, etc..), I really liked that. I think this is a cultural thing and not per se because of the lack(or not) of good internet connection. People actually likes to do this sort of things in person, not online. Most of the people I know, don't trust technology or like to actually do that with a machine. Last but not least, about the "Asian" thing, I've seen this happening with South America and Spain. I'm also really annoyed by the fact that if we both speak Spanish, we are from the same country. It's hard for some people to understand that there's many countries that speak spanish and not all of them in South America. So, I guess is just by proximity. You know better about Asians, we know better about countries from South America that speak Spanish as well and are not spanish.
@ElyceBehrsin5 жыл бұрын
Haha they should really improve water quality then. People shouldn't have to rely on plastic bottles of water for life. It's interesting what you mention about South America because a lot of Spanish also use that horrible derrogatory term for all south Americans and I have actually been surprised how little Spanish know about the region. I thought there would have more cultural overlap than you do. We actually have a big migrant population from Argentina and Uruguay in Australia too. I think people would more likely think Spanish were Mexican than south American. But not sure about other countries. But really my main iasue is the lack of cultural curiosity generally. Of course there are exceptions and as people like you move abroad and come back it'll change but it's a bit hard for someone from a multicultural society to handle some days 😋

Customer service in Ireland is the best. Peoole are sooo nice and genuine, not fake. Also, you could eat half a loaf of bread and then decide you don't think it's as good as it should be, you can get a refund. Spanish people always tell me that people would take advantage if they did that in Spain
@alejandromelgarejofrias60975 жыл бұрын
Someone's feeling homesick today, huh? As for the water, try asking for "un vaso/una jarra de agua del grifo". It's awful, but nowadays they bring you bottled water by default. Just be bold and ask for free tap water. Besides, it's the moral thing to do.

I can't disagree with any of these. I'll miss our beaches (aussie beaches are special and so many of them) and the Asian cuisine (it really is not good in Spain) the most when I leave for Spain I think. The "chino" thing is common across Latin America too, I try to correct people who do it (they still don't really care). I'll probably also miss the size of housing given I'll probably live in an apartment in Madrid and live in a house now. The coffee, it's been years since I had Spanish coffee so I'll take your word for it since I am a coffee snob as well but there do seem to be artisan coffee makers increasing in numbers in the bigger cities like Madrid.

It seems like there’s no water fountains anywhere in Spain, it’s like Spaniards don’t drink water that often, like camels! When one finds a water fountain in Spain it is filthy.
