If I was building a new place I would definitely use them too for any outdoor faucets. If you have young kids like me the added benefit is that I can CONTROL them messing with the faucets when I want. I can even leave the hose out there but they can't turn the water on and leave it on endlessly! Many good reasons for these and they they don't cost much more. If you are even worried about them breaking 30 years later you could even buy a spare body to be 100% covered for future proofing.

I love it, and I might do it because my outdoor faucet is A. Not frost free (and I live in the North) and B. It looks like a great piece of equipment that has some real thought and engineering put into it. I really like it when companies don’t just settle for the status quo, but try to improve on something even if it’s “good enough.” Also, a recommendation from This Old House is like the solid gold seal of approval. What more does one need?
@SilverCymbal4 жыл бұрын
If you have ever bought boat hardware the quality of the construction of this is similar to that, very well made. It seems even overbuilt which is fine with me!
@NeilWatkinsfromaccounting4 жыл бұрын

Great video. I looked at these last year when I had to replace an outdoor faucet. I chose to use a traditional one because 1) the flat back looked a bit too large to install on a stone veneer wall....I would have had to cut some stone out and install a matching flat face from the stone veneer collection - similar to what's used for outdoor receptacles, 2) I worry about the possibility that 10-20 years down the line I may not be able to buy replacement "plug" pieces if the company goes out of business, and 3) those plug pieces look like plastic and might snap right off if pulled sideways. I wonder why they don't have those pieces made of metal.
@SilverCymbal4 жыл бұрын
Not getting one of these is certainly OK. They used Delrin plastic for these which is incredibly strong so I wouldn't expect any issues there. But 20 years from now who knows? But remember these fittings exist in the Marine world already so I think you will see them for a long time.

I love how everybody I've seen touts the antitheft feature, I mean if your neighbors weren't going to pay for water and steal from you I would probably just go online and order the fitting themselves or dig up and cut into your waterline. See that's a lot with electricity theft. Then there's the frost free claim and the water saving claim. If you don't disconnect the hose the same thing happens with the frost free spout. Whether that be cold weather or use.

What has your experience been with the plastic male fitting with the two O-rings that plugs into the wall mounted receptacle? Is there any way to protect that end so if you drag the hose around you don’t damage the O-rings or get the fitting dirty so that it won’t connect or seal? That’s the only issue I see with this system.
@SilverCymbal4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question, they only need one o-ring the second is there for redundancy. I have only use these for a few months now without issues but they have been around for 5+ years and seem to doing very well out there. Based on my limited exposure and what I see online I think these hold up very well.

No thanks... Reason why... If the water is actually that close to the outside of the house for just a twist on connection, there's gonna be a lot of frozen faucet failures in colder climates. The water valve cutoff point needs to be inside the wall in relative warmth not just an inch or two for convenience.
@SilverCymbal4 жыл бұрын
Good news. You will be happy to know that the actual sealing portion is in the threaded fitting you saw in the video, not in the exposed end. So that won't happen. There is a rod inside that connects it together. They actually just approved them in Canada too so you can be sure its pretty cold up there.
