The chess24 Legends of Chess is the 4th stage of the $1 million Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour and features Magnus Carlsen and his predecessors as World Champion Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik. It consists of two stages, a 10-player preliminary, where each player plays each other once, followed by a knockout among the top 4. Prelim ties are played as 4-game rapid matches, while knockout ties are the best of 3 such matches. The prize fund is $150,000, with $45,000 for first place, while the winner also qualifies for the $300,000 Grand Final.
The time control is 15 minutes for all moves with a 10-second increment from move 1. The winner of a preliminary tie decided in rapid games gets 3 points. If the score is 2:2 an Armageddon game is played, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. A winner in Armageddon gets 2 match points, while the loser gets 1. The knockout format is the same except before Armageddon there are two 5+3 blitz games. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

#suggestion Hey Agadmator, I watched chess.com's video earlier which was the top chess players estimared rating by accuracy (so I think by move accuracy and not elo). I recorded the peak rating of the players who held the highest rating of all time throughout the years, and I found these results. The video started with Paul Morphy, so his predecessors were not included. One name on this list really caught my eye. I did not think that Harry Nelson Pullsbury would have made this list! I rewatched your video on the man who invented 1.d4 (Pillsbury) and I was impressed with his play. I'd love to see another of his games, as he isn't as represented on the channel as any other of these great legends. Here is the list. Paul Morphy- 2563 rating in 1855. Harry Nelson Pillsbury- 2596 rating in 1900. (+43) Jose Raul Capablanca- 2786 rating in 1919. (+190) Robert James "Bobby" Fischer- 2916 rating in 1969. (+130) Vladimir Kramnik- 2931 rating in 1999. (+15) Garry Kasparov- 2973 rating in 2003. (+42) Vladimir Kramnik- 2982 rating in 2009. (+9) Magnus Carlsen- 2988 rating in 2015. (+6)

It doesn't look like the best idea in the position; you win a pawn and open up the king but at the expense of losing your light squared bishop and opening up for the rook on f8. In that line black looks like it has a lot of activity. That's my take anyway...Not exactly a pro, but the light squared bishop seems pretty important here.

What did you last discuss with Fischer? (question to Boris Spassky from the 2016 Spassky interview on chess.com) "What first move was stronger: e2-e4 or d2-d4. We agreed that it's the latter, because the pawn is protected by the Queen. Bobby always called me. I've never bothered him by the phone. I knew that he would again start discussing his own "Fischer chess" with me. I didn't approve of the idea. Too many variants. But he insisted."

Can anyone here recommend the best engine/database combo for training and analysis? I used to be a low level tournament player in my youth, and I’m getting interested in playing again. I haven’t played in a few years (last tournament I played was 1990 😳) and I really need to relearn some openings. What are some good options? I have both a Windows based laptop and and Apple desktop, I would prefer to use the laptop for this I think. Any input appreciated.

it’s hard to believe Magnus isn’t even the peak of chess. All his moves seem so perfect.

I mean if you're talking about engines then yes but magnus is arguably the best chess player of all time.

ZippyClips he is the best of this era yes. i think we have about 1 more era left of human development in chess as young prodigies can start to study more and more advanced AI. many world champs have touched on this and said there is no best player, Magnus would be nothing without his predecessors, just like every world champ before him.

10:07 after Ng5 what if black plays Rfd4 attacking the queen and if the queen captures Qxe5, black plays Rd4xd7 grabbing the passed white pawn.
@devangagarwal8098

but isntead of Qxe5 if white plays Qe6 then black is lost completely.

I still don't understand what agad does in the beginning of most of his videos where he says sorry about that and then reaches down... the volume and sound of the pieces seems to me to be the same before and after he changes whatever it is he changes.
