Watch looks fantastic, I'm just not sure I can buy a watch called clemence 😂
I precisely pre-ordered a Munro only because of the Ridgeline colorway 😂 and I know I’m not the only one (although I would’ve swapped black for navy and the orange for amber). Thanks for the review Jody!

Data point: I totally did buy the weird one. Just seemed like a fun addition to a field watch collection already full of black, grey, and drab dials. While definitely tempted by the yellow version, the charming "functionality" and cheerful coloring just really grabbed me. Feels like something that has the potential to be a bit of a cult classic...? I'd already gotten a similar vibe from the product shots, so I'm glad to hear they remind of Traska's subtly excellent wearing experience.

Good looking watch. I always said my comfort zone was 38-42mm. Then I took a run at the Timex MK1 mechanical, and now I prefer 36mm.
@AleksiJoensuu10 ай бұрын
I once bought a vintage Eterna that was 34mm, from 1956 by the serial number, and damned if it doesn't actually look nice as heck. I then added a watch from the women's Seiko cocktail time line at 33,5mm. It sounds ridiculous but I love it.

When I bought my first watch,a Smiths,womens watches were tiny and a mans' watch was around 35mm. Of course it would have been in inches. Any fool can adapt an alarm clock to be a watch but it takes skill to make one small and legible. I have a diver that was given to me that's 44mm. Never wear it. Don't dive.
@caseydarrah10 ай бұрын
Yeah, watches have become massive in the last 50 years. When I was a high school kid in the 90s, a man's watch was 34-40mm. A 43mm G-Shock 5600 was considered a truly MASSIVE watch, and one that you'd never wear in anything outside work or sport scenarios. Now I've seen companies try and claim 40 as a women's watch- it took some doing for my wife to find a somewhat dressy watch in the 25-30mm band. My Baltany on my wrist as I write this is 36, and it's easily readable, fairly slim, and tough.@@martinsaunders7925
@lefroy110 ай бұрын
FWIW, I have a 7'' wrist and just bought a similar cased 37.5mm watch (albeit with slightly longer lugs). With that thin bezel, I really wouldn't want to go any larger. It's plenty big enough.
@Mike-kr9ys10 ай бұрын
Very nice watch. No moans nor niggles from me. I even like the Ridgeline dial. And to those that say it is too small - I have a LARGE (9 inch/23mm) wrist, and I would wear that, and enjoy every minute of it.
@paulwilberforce965910 ай бұрын
I doubt you'd get that over your hands with a small clasp like that
@Mike-kr9ys10 ай бұрын
@@paulwilberforce9659 No worries. Hardly any companies send watches with straps, bracelets, etc that fit me. I get xl straps from various vendors, either leather or nato. All good.

That VW is an absolutely iconic design, so you've given that watch a big compliment, one that I think it deserves. When every watch look so samey same, this company has made one that has a very striking and handsome look.
@calebcourteau10 ай бұрын
Amazing watch. I actually like the oversize crown. I think it gives the watch character, like a good looking man or woman with a big nose. Another nice detail is the heavily chamfered edges on the skin side of the bracelet and case. Too many watches keep these edges sharp and uncomfortable, but this watch was clearly designed to actually be worn. Also, the applied markers are a nice touch. Painted markers would have been fine, but the applied markers give the dial some nice depth and dimension. Very impressive watch.

I've been looking forward to this one, i ordered when they went live earlier this week...and of course got the Ridgeline 😉 Not often I find myself disagreeing with your vids Jody, but the tri-colour and huge crown were big draws for me! Now let's see whether Erebus or Clemence get their beauties to my doorstep first! 😂
@felixr12610 ай бұрын
The ridgeline colour is fabulous!!! Newer saw a serious watch being more fun that that. And combining it with the avalanche back-story is genius. If the watch would be closer to my price range I surely would get one of those. I think its cool that they went for it. PS.: I also don´t mind the comparison to the VW Harlekin line.

As a proud Scot, I'm delighted there are people in our small country that have the initiative, determination & drive to create their own watches. It's very refreshing to see & I hope their efforts see an uptick in young people looking to make a career in watchmaking. I love being able to support this type of business & have ordered the Spindrift which manages to solve a dearth in white dialed watches that I own. Looking forward to the Spring when I will have completely forgotten I've ordered it & subsequently get a pleasant surprise :) Good luck with the launch guys.

I must say, I absolutely love the sleek low profile case, the alternating brushing, female end links, and just the overall appeal of this one. However, if we're going to go with British "philosophically similar" explorer types of a smaller case size (36mm), how would you rate it against the Smiths Everest? (Over twice the price) It's been on my wishlist for a few years now. 🤞

Great to see this review. I’ve seen this watch and like the look, so this review convinced me it “walks the walk.” Great size, super slim at 10mm, the design gives me a Frank Lloyd Wright kind of feel, and those bracelet links appear to be approaching an Ebel-like finish: smooth, like Gary Coleman. 😊

Hummed and hawed over this for a while as the size is just below my preferred 39-41mm. Looked at it a bit more and liked it's similarity to an old Tissot my mum gave me so decided to go for it. Being born in Leith also helps. Can't for the life of me understand the reasoning behind the Ridgeline colouring though, but others seem to like it which is fair enough.

I like the ridgeline color variation the most….it’s something different and well executed and attractive imo. I’m sick of seeing the same old colors and designs over and over again. The type of people who complain about dials like this are the types that have a collection of 200 budget watches that barely look different from one another. You should be encouraging brands to do different stuff, Jody, as opposed to acting perplexed when something new is done.

Being something of a field watch aficionado, I was instantly captivated by the looks of the watch. The one caveat, for me, though, is the movement. I don’t mind that it’s a Miyota, however, I do mind that it’s mechanical. Lately I’ve been leaning towards field watches that have quartz movements (Hamilton, Marathon, Aqua Terra etc…). I’ve come around to the notion that a reliable quartz movement in a simple, rugged, good looking field watch, go hand-in-hand… Set it and forget it and every time you need to go, grab it. If Clemence cases a HAQ inside this watch in the future I’m buying 2, one black and one amber.

That's really nice! That green from the crazy one or teal would have been a good color... Feels like it's missing some color options... Maybe the could be some interesting sushi texture options as well as more color choices in future versions. As far as size, it's is a really good size for this style of watch. There's a reason why some popular watches are available in more than one size... Split the difference isn't really the best option, if you want to cater to lovers of different watch sizes. It can work if it has to... But it's not the same at all.
