Yep and often half off or more. Like at the time of me writing this it’s $16. Which is just totally bonkers for a plugin of this depth and such a awesome feature set. Hornet might be the most underrated dev of all time imho. I own pro-q3, and am going to buy this today just because I like the saturation stuff. Pro-a is the best for a lot of things but I can see myself reaching for total EQ especially for collaborations where I can ask someone to spent 16-30 bucks to use the same session plugs instead of $150.

@chosenplay68963 жыл бұрын
A couple things: 1. No it does not have a treshold knob for the dynamic eq part.. what it does is automatically calculate the "general" volume of the signal and then when the signal is too high compared to the general value (or too low if you want it to go up) it automatically lower (or rise) the signal in such a way to balance it out with the standard value of the entire signal (hope I managed to explain it well). 2. You should DEFINITLY try other Hornet plugins out.. there are a lot of really really peculiar plugins that can do amazing things... I'd suggest Tape and Thirtyone for some other looks.. expecially thirtyone would REALLY be worth a look :) Also.. The Normalizer could be very interesting to check out considering that it autogain your signal on CONTINUOUS mode every time you apply a change to it.. so to make an example: you set a specific level you want your volume at (either in peak, rms or lufs).. then add let's say a compressor before it.. compress the signal.. and the normalizer will AUTOMATICALLY push the volume back up at your decided value every time you make a change :)

The thing with Pultecs is, their filter stage is passive (i.e. they only take signal away) and the "warmth" comes from the active gain stage that's necessary to make up for all the level the filters took away. (If you boost the lows in a Pultec, you're actually taking away highs. And if you're boosting the highs, you're actually dipping the lows.) There were the original tube-based Pultecs, because back in the 60s/70s tubes simply were the cleanest way of amplifying and adding gain. Later, they also made a Pultec with a solid-state post-filter amplification stage, because the solid-state op-amps were so much cleaner and thus, at least back in the 80s. much more desirable in studios. Also, the filters in a Pultec are not a serial sequence of individually compartmentalized filters, but rather arranged as a parallel setup, so that changing one filter would affect the filter responses of all other filters differently tham in a "regular" serial EQ.

Wytse, the fact that you would rather run a sine wave through a plugin and click a lot of buttons than read the manual is a very good sign for your cognitive state! 1. Yes, i want to see a video about your opinion on allpass filters. 2. Linear-Phase EQing is useful for lowend layers, like when you construct a kick from 2 other kicks. but i know you're more of a mixing guy. 3. Yes, this plugin looks like it adds some nice features to normal eq plugins. 4. Have you tried Wavesfactory Spectre yet? It's also sort of a mixture between an eq and saturation but with a stronger focus on the saturation part and I think it's really cool.

I'm with Scott Hazard's comment. Hornet is a great company with reasonably priced plugins, and their products, in comparing them to other Co's, is below those price lines, but ABOVE The Median Line in their Pricing.....also an honest company as someone else said. Been buying Hornet plugins for the last yr, now about 20 of them, none are disappointing. ONE "can't do without" vst from them is their VU Meter MK4, an AUTO Gain Staging device and goes well with their LU Meter MK2, a loudness meter. So between buying Hornet's, I am also buying Plugin Alliance and Izotope products, and will eventually WEAN myself away from the TON of Waves vst's I have, because of their Update Extortion Plan.

I wonder sometimes what direction modern software developers would take if Fab Filter plugins never existed. They are just so instantly recognisable. Not saying however that when people use their ideas to create something new its a bad thing, because in this instance this certainly looks interesting.
@cachelesssociety51872 жыл бұрын
As others have commented, this dev makes some remarkably original and inexpensive tools. Please do review some more by them. 3 of my favs which I just bought are Analog Stage (based on your review), Syncpressor, and Thirty One mk2. Thirty One mk 2 is quite surprising, given that there are similar efforts by other more famous devs but without the spatial enhancement of this particular one. As a 31-band Auto EQ its meant to be used as a master bus fx. In Auto mode it smooths out the differences between neighboring bands and reduces masking. But in reality it also makes a track "pop" in 3D for some reason, maybe because the frequency regions it unmasks logically happen to be places that are not just dense in frequency but also in "side band" activity, so unmasking sound in that area adds stereo life as well? I don't know why Gulfoss or Teote or one of these other competitors doesn't quite have this effect, but to my ears they're different. And for less than $15-20 (with a demo) its just a no-brainer for me. One other plugin they make that I would recommend is Wah Wah, but I set the plugin wrapper (radio button) to turn on "fixed size buffers" - I think a few Hornet plugs may require this in FL Studio for some reason.
@daniiel14953 жыл бұрын

A bit sad that it has the same cramping issues as ReaEQ. Otherwise a very good EQ for the pricepoint! Btw, just wanted to say that he has a VU-meter plug-in whit bar graphs :) It's called HoRNet VU-meter MK4. It also has auto gain where you can set the reference and maximum levels so it's absolutely perfect for automatic gainstaging. I've got it set as default chain for new tracks in Reaper with maximum set -14dB and auto engaged, so when I import tracks into a new project I just play it for about 30-40 seconds and when I hit pause/stop, auto is disengaged and all the tracks are gain staged pretty well.
