Fairly new cyclist here and just found your channel looking for education on bar tape installation and subscribed! I LIKE your approach to installation and agree the aesthetics are cleaner and with your credentials, seem to have proven the method is solid. Also will be buying the SQLab tape from your site….not the most economical vs other options….but I’m good to support your business given the time/effort you put into your channel and quality videos. Will be watching many of them! I would definitely be a customer if I were on your coast, but live inFlorida so will make videos and your online shop work for now! Just went on my second ride with it today but I had full fingered gloves the first ride so I didn’t get the pleasure of the feel. Today I did and I love it!! Has a great feel and is just a little tacky without feeling sticky. Have the same feeling about the tape as the saddle-think to myself while riding how great it feels! That has never happened in those departments before. Thanks for reviewing and providing such a great product!!

I have had an issue with local reseller of SQLab which the SQLab is standing behind and helping me out right now (big thumbs up for SQLab) and good to see this review. I am going to have to look at their bar tape too now as my old fizik one in main bike is looking a little ... worn).

I have the same issues with Lizard Skins. On your recommendations, I'll give the SQ's a try. To avoid the tape slipping, I pre-wrap the bar with stretchy electrical tape, stretched quite tight, sticky side facing OUT. You don't need to wrap the electrical tape like bar tape with it overlapping. You can get away with a 2-3 cm of open space between turns.

Good review and comparison. I like you ride a lot and need a tape that will go the miles. I want to give it a try-hopefully I will like it as much as their saddle. If I do I may have to go with the insoles as well 😉

Not yet! In general to me bar tape is bar tape. I use the cheapest bar tape and replace it often because I like to keep it fresh. This video is pretty old but it was just comparing Lizard Skins to SQ Lab. I don't really ride either one. I know for sure I haven't ridden SQ Lab tape since I shot this video over 2 years ago. Never liked Lizard skin been using Ardundel Synth Gecko-100% silicon, no sticky back required. Remove it occasionally, stick in the washing machine and reinstall. Holds up really well. I'll try the SQ lab next time.

Those are wrapped the wrong way. Should alway start at the bottom.

This is an alternative way to wrap the bars. It’s much neater and doesn’t require that god awful looking black electrical tape or any other tape. There is no wrong way to wrap bar tape. You should not always start at the bottom. I’ve been wrapping my bars and my customer’s bars this way for nearly 20 years. My customers have been much happier having them wrapped this way instead of the way you mentioned. Whenever their bikes are in for service they request their tape wrapped this way now and dislike the other method. Thanks for watching

And yes I actually did another video showing viewers how to wrap bar tape this way starting from the top and terminating at the bottom. Try it you will never go back to starting from the bottom - it’s not as neat and tidy. Actually in my opinion it looks like … 💩

@Charles Man I wrap all sorts of tapes from the top down. I wrap my crew’s tape from the top down and we are 10,000 plus mile a year riders none of us have issues with our bar tape wrapped this way.

Incorrect! The adhesive of the tape sucks! That’s the point of the video. Lizard Skins is completely overrated.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Yeah, nope. I installed tons of bar tape, it comes down to workmanship when tape separates like that, even el cheapo tape stays in place if installed correctly.

I think what has made it worse than it would have been is because the tape has been wrapped top down, which is all the more reason why it's separating because the top edge is exposed to the torsional forces of the riders hands which are pulling on the edges of the tape. If you wrap bottom up the tape will cover the edges so they aren't exposed to as much friction
