Gotta give props to Spyderco for bringing rex 121 to market. I know they tried it with other crazy steels before like s125v and s145v (said it took 8 hours just to cut out 1 blank from that experimental steel) and no success. So to see them bring rex 121 which is a carbide volume and hardness monster definitely deserves praise. Im sure it takes a lot of time, tooling and belts to shape that blade. Most custom makers aren't bokd enough to make rex 121 knives one at a time. Forget a whole run if them.

Yeah the sage 5 has a new pivot bushing setup that gives it the best washer compression lock action while still having super solid lockup right outta the box, no fiddling around, polishing washers, break in etc like on a para 3 or pm2

Rex121 has the best wear resistance of any steel -- bar none. Just don't drop it, or hit a staple! My copy of the knife had a so-so factory edge, but it sharpened up beautifully on CBN, and for a change, the grind was symmetrical! Action was also great, and the blade was (again, for a change) perfectly centered. No blade play, either. The diarrhea-brown scales are even starting to grow on me. 😂

Oh thank you, thank you the Para 3 is back. That Sage 5 is a keeper with or without the burnt orange scales.

It will be interesting to see how that steel holds up to miles of concrete board. In other news, shipping would cost soooo much less if we didn't ship in concrete boxes.

Unless you've got a couple hours, you aren't putting an edge on that REX 121. It's about the hardest knife steel you'll find. Will be ridiculously hard to sharpen even with diamond stones, but you won't need to sharpen it much. If I had one and it needed sharpened, I'd probably send it to Spyderco and let them do it.
@chriswebb301814 күн бұрын
With high quality cbn or diamond stones it isn't that bad. Everyone said that about maxamet and it's not bad to sharpen either. I have 2 edc fixed blades in rex121 and and yes it takes longer than s30v to sharpen but nothing crazy like people that have never sharpened it seem to think. It's just steel

Oh man my recent U.S. stuff is great and has been fall shutty. S90v pm2, cruwear and magnacut lw para 3’s and a Rex 45 manix have all been centered and drop with little to no wrist. I have a s45vn pm2 that didn’t just fall but that was it. My delica and sliverax are both slightly off to the right but are otherwise great.
@PlantDaddy199115 күн бұрын
@@MikeJ602, I'm jealous of you. Every single Golden, CO Spyderco I've ever bought (minus one: an S110V PM2) has had shitty QC. Terrible action, uneven grinds, stripped screws (for the pivot *and* pocket clip), completely dicked centering (rubbing), and so on. I sold all my USA Spydercos until my recent SPY27 PM2. Which... you guessed it... came with plenty of blade play and the pocket clip screws were stripped from the very moment I removed the clip from its default position. To be clear, I'm keeping this one. I just wanted a USA Spyderco in the collection. Despite the problems, it is still that. EDIT: spelling
@Bmxr199118 сағат бұрын
Well, look at the people living in and coming into the USA as of the past 3-4 years. Made in USA doesn't mean much when you let the entire third world into the nation. It's not the land that makes the third world trash, it's the people. Some may be insulted by this, but it doesn't mean it's not true.
@Krazyabe15 күн бұрын
Interested in the showoff. And to hear how sharpening goes. It's pretty impressive Spyderco managed to use this steel in a production knife. Supposed to be very difficult to work with

Hopefully, I have mine end of the week or next week. Just have to wait for it to travel through the US it looks like before it ends up on a plane to Norway. Just praying it won't stop by Turkey as it seem like every package going there take 2-3 weeks to leave the country.
