Honestly with plugins like this, there are a million options and it just comes down to UI until I (or a youtuber) does a proper comparison of sound quality by matching settings. Plugins off the top of my head that can do this really well and simply: - Soothe 2 - Fuser - MSpectralDynamics - Trackspacer - Neutron 4 Unmask Other plugins can do this in a more complex way, but it still works fine (such as Pro-Q3). Your comment about being able to set frequency-dependent release is RIGHT on the money. Idk why plugin manufacturers don't reach out to people like you who have immense experience with every plugin on the planet and ask for some quick advice as to how they can differentiate themselves from whatever else is out there... It's either pride or laziness.

Melda plugins are the sleeper workhorses anyone really needs. I’ve gone from just using the free bundle to now buying some of their paid ones and they don’t disappoint.

True, only at times they can get so overcomplicated. Most United Plugins is melda attempting to have more simpler streamlined plugins, with various degrees of success

Still thing Mastering the Mix Fuser takes the cake for these type of plugins. Love the phase detection it implemented.

I bought this recently and I really like it. I also have MtM Fuser and they both do similar things but they sound quite different. The different spectral modes are quite handy.

It sounds like the sidechain also causes the full instrumental part to pump a bit. Feels like a not so reliable way to work to be honest. I also always set ALL instrumental parts different comparing to the voice level. I wouldn't use this is a mix. I would use a transparent mixbus eq and additional tools on the mixbus instead.

yeah with the setting is used it can pump. Subtelty is not something that works well on YT. On individual groups can work better and ofcourse, never over do it.

I have stopped using these tools. They all sound unnatural to me. I've had better luck using dynamic EQ in Kirchhoff for ducking. It's also an excellent deesser. Overall my most used plugin these days.

bitwig users have this for free as audio-sidechain - freq cutoff, attack and release also present

Love your in-depth reviews! I'm surprised this plugin offers nothing new, better or unique above the existing options other than an introductory low price! Why bother? Trackspacer goes on special fairly regularly and has the advantage of visually representing the HP and LP filtering (lacking in Firespacer as pointed out at 04:19). I also have Mastering the Mix Fuser - I have to start using that for the phase detection feature.

Could the issue you mentioned of release times being frequency-dependent be solved by putting 2 instances of the plug-in on the track with different release times and different frequency filters set? Or would that make the sound more unnatural?

First I’ve heard of this, but sidechained Soothe2 is another alternative that kicks Trackspacer’s @ss in alot of cases (and way less CPU-intensive)

No. Don't use this sort of plugin for your vocals to sit on top of the mix, using a vocal riding plugin for that. This is for use for individual elements like kick and bass. Trackspacer was the first but can cause some nasty crackles and pops regardless of settings. I have tried them all and the best one is the mastering the mix Fuser. Clean as anything.

trackspacer is a distaster when it used against any full spectrum music files. it will wash out the tonality of the Side chain track.

I haven't used Smooth2 enough to give you a based opinion on it, but from my experience Izotope unmask is an overall better sounding, more accurate, and easier to use option. But I have heard good things about Smooth2, especially at the price point.
