Voice control exists! 3 finger gestures exist! Another day, another Aussie review of a Chinese car that screams "Software issues" while completely ignoring all the quality of life features built into the control systems, simply because they are used to the clunky interfaces provided by legacy automakers. The Chinese almost never touch that screen. They just use voice command. You can turn off any driver assist feature using simple voice commands. It really isn't any kind of inconvenience. You need to do better
@Ageratos015 ай бұрын
Valid point, now that you mentioned it I don't think I've seen any local viewer use the voice commands. Maybe because they know that the average consumer are going to want to use muscle memory and use screen/buttons. They might be aware that overseas users use the voice commands but cater to how the local market would most likely use it. I would say in 5-10 years using voice commands will become second nature.

A fair bit of body diving when braking which Defender doesn't have, however on defender you'd have to push accelerator to get the car moving - even with Auto-hold off. On this and all other cars, you release brake and vehicle would moving already slow, just really not used to Defender that each time to start vehicle you'd have to push acceleration throttle, could be really tiring in day to day commute... A very professional review. Well done. Lane Keep Assist technology is often unhelpful (and sometimes dangerous) in too many new cars. The "NCAP" tests (which are motivating manufacturers too install this) do not attempt to assess false responses, instead awarding high scores for very sensitive systems. Manufacturers will only de-sensitise systems if sales suffer. It will help if NCAP is amended to subtract points for cars that intervene too early, or fight the clearly controlled actions of a driver. As for the GWM Tank 500 - it looks as though it will be a nail in the chair of the marketing managers at Ford and Toyota. Hopefully it will get their attention, and they will turn their mind to improving the value of the Everest and Prado.

Nice honest review Tom. Thank you. I think the biggest concern is its resale value. Especially for those who finance vehicles with a balloon payment as ideally you want the vehicle to be worth more than that final payment. Taking this same approach, and opting to again refinance the balloon then you’re faced with the unknown aspect of the reliability. I agree Great Wall Motors have come a long way and it’s great they are taking feedback onboard however that doesn’t really apply to a vehicle you purchase today (unless it’s just a software update). Having locking front and rear differentials is great. However, just like most of its competitors that you see lined up for school pickup runs then it’s possibly not going to venture into an environment where having this option will actually be required.

The engine's impressive power and reliability made it a joy to drive in various conditions. However, the lane assist and cruise control features were somewhat frustrating, with hard braking and speed adjustments in 5 km/h increments, along with steering wheel control buttons that weren't used for vital features. Despite these minor issues, which an OTA update could easily fix, the pros significantly outweigh the cons. It's surprising that this exceptional engine isn't available in Australia, given its remarkable performance.

When you arrogantly take a swipe at the safety features which are ANCAP tested, and advocate other people to do the same, you're not doing anyone any favours. I've been driving for over 40 years, in that time I've had a few near misses either drifting off the road or out of my lane. I also know someone who had a microsleep and drove off the road. Whereas in all that time I've never had a semi trailer come towards me in my lane that I needed to avoid, and even if it was to happen you could still avoid it with firm hands. From my experience and I'm sure also backed statistically most people are much better off with the safety assistance on rather than turned off. Until you have actually researched this area properly, you might be doing a lot of people a disservice by complaining about the safety features and encouraging peopto override it.
@ianweal30815 ай бұрын
Safety has its place, yes. I say that journos criticise distraction monitor, but with some justification. They need to take into account they are looking away a lot to describe features to us, look at camera etc., hence system activates. Someone actually focused on their driving may not find it too intrusive. Having said that, the driving aids can be detrimental too. Fact: I'm driving south on M1 just north Port Macquarie. I need to pull over to rectify an issue with my caravan, hence I'm looking for a safe place to accomplish this, hence utilising my mirrors to monitor approaching traffic (110 klm zone). What I witnessed was totally incomprehensible. A massive dust cloud erupted in the centre island between the north and south bound lanes, ironically exactly as I found a safe location to stop. I begin to walk back to incident, a Isuzu dmax ute now facing south appears from the dust, two vehicles headed nth also stopped, alighted from vehicles but they didn't render assistance, they got back in vehicles and drove off. I arrive to find a chap in total shock alighting from dmax. Aside from shock he's okay, so I set about attempting to clear debris from nth bound lanes of traffic, steel rope that divide Nth/Sth lanes had been struck, they'd been pulled from mountings and recoiled across nth bound lanes being struck by totally unfazed drivers, rocks, vehicle parts etc. being flung skywards as struck. Whilst clearing the lanes and dodging traffic I draw the attention of a passing ambulance whom illuminated their lights pulled to centre and finally traffic began to slow down. I pointed out the shocked driver required attention and remained clearing debris from the road. Metal components were the front right wheel, shattered into pieces after being entwined with steel cables, disc brake pads, calliper,, lots of plastics etc. I was now able to enquire about the driver, he's just in total shock, no idea what happened. Ambulance radio for police, soon enough 3 highway patrol cars have crash scene safe. Turns out, the dmax is brand new, just collected from Port Macquarie dealership, so it's new experience for the driver. Ambulance officers advise police that they believe the driver has been caught out by 'Wait for it', "Lane Keep Assistance" he's tried to swap lanes fort with the steering, it's given in, hence big right swerve straight into safety steel ropes. Lane Keep Assist was the direct cause of the incident. Now, my question is, Why did he swerve? If you recall, I mentioned two nth bound vehicles stopped initially, but didn't render assistance. My theory is, they caused the incident, I suspect one caused the dmax driver to have to swerve taking evasive action, no time to utilise indicators to eliminate lane keep assist. Just one incident I witnessed caused by a safety feature. Imagine if he'd just deactivated that "Lane Keep Assist" by a single touch of a button on the steering wheel, he'd safely continued his journey arriving home in his new truck, all be it a bit rattled if my theory was correct. The safety feature that did work that day, the steel rope divider, it captured his vehicle stopping him crossing at speed into oncoming traffic.

73K drive away way too much given that u can get for early 60s DMAx/MUX , This crap will be worth nothing after 7 years (or when warranty runs out) as no one will be taking a risk buying this when it falls apart. Honestly I would strongly advise to give yourself a favor for 73Ks its possible to get 200 series Sahara with around 120ks on the clock ( I know DPFs and EGRs - turn them off ) and enjoy the real car not this low quality overpriced shit especially if you are planning on towing . Or if someone is crazy enough to buy it , just negotiate very hard given that it will be very hard to sell and try to ask for guaranteed future value.
