What about a 10-10-10 all Purpose fertilizer for spring time
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 5 ай бұрын
You don't really want that much phosphorous. In the spring when you want to promote growth you want your Nitergeon to be twice as much as your potassium!! That much phosphorous is not needed for Turf and can be harmful to the environment at high rates.

Yes. I would apply something with less Nitergeon now that it is so hot outside. That means feeding a small amount of micronutrients throughout the summer. You don't need to apply a heavy fertilization like you do in the spring!

Learned so much. - Agreed, Bonus S totally burned my lawn as a noob, lol - 2,4d does burn St. Aug, but when combined with mcpp (aka mecoprop) like was in the 1st fert bag , it kills Floratam according to University of Florida - Last spring i used the Scotts halts. 2 applications. One on Feb 1st, the other on April 1st. The 2nd application gave me a good 3 months protection from weeds. Then i could see the weeds slowly creeping through after that.

Why is weed and feed plus insect control bad in one bag?
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 ай бұрын
The feed and insect control are fine. Granular post emergent herbicide is absolutely ineffective. So, using fertilizer and weed control in one bag can be easy to burn in warm temperatures, and it might not even be effective. There is too much risk and waste of money.

Hi Chadd, just moved to a new house in Orlando area, I am planning to do St Augustin plugs next March in my back yard, about 8,000sf, i can't afford to sod for 8,000sf, so plugs will be cheaper. It was St Augustin before, I used some Image weed killer for St Augustin lawn last month when temperature was about 80, and also used fungus control, and then found out there are not much grass in the yard. So i decided to do plugs. And also I saw a lot of big black ants in the back yard, I don't know the name of the ants, and a lot of moths flying when i walking on the lawn. What should I do to treat these ants and moths? What should I do right now to prepare for March? Should I just use weed and grass killer to kill everything? Because there almost 1% of St Augustin grass, and also should I use pre-emergent on January or February? I just heard you said pre-emergent will stop runners. Thank you so much.
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 8 ай бұрын
The moths are sod web worms. No need to worry about them this late in the year. The best would be to kill everything. It's going to take a very long time for an area that big to fill in with plugs. You might want to consider bermuda grass, which you can seed. Yes, do not use pre emergent until the area is fully thick.

Glad this was helpful. If You have bare spot issues definitely check out our other videos. I could possibly cover some of the issues you are facing in my other vidoes. I personally have never used imagine. The feeback I have heard has been ok. You can apply one after another no issues. I recommend just treating the active weeds with the herbicide rather then the whole lawn. I good product for St.augustine and zoysia turf is a herbicide called Avenue South. Its expensive but highly worth and as a home owner the bottle will last you a year or two. Get some of that and just follow the label instructions on the product. If you are unsure always go light. You can re apply but you can never get it back up if you apply too much. Get some Avenue south. Watch some of our other videos and get a plan of where to start. It will take time and tackle one area and one issue at a time so you do not get over whelmed. The Scott's fall fertilizer is was not a bad spring fertilizer. You could get that and go out at half the recommend rate. Treat the weeds then in 2 months apply the other half then use miliorgnite and keep treating the weeds throughout the rest of the year. I hope this helps!! Goodluck on your lawn journey.

@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
Atrazine does kill weeds well but it very un forgiving. There are many products that are a lot safer with similar results. Atrazine is a very hot product and so is Nitergeon. This is such a dangerous combo. I can't believe they are aloud to sell it. Also granular weed control is extremely ineffective. Too much risk for too little reward. Thanks for watching the video and supporting the channel. That 15 0 15 will do great. Anything any sandy soil will allways be lacking those. If you get great results just repeat it year after year for the fertilizer. This month would be a little early for pest prevention but would have no down side if you applied now. If you do it now just do the pest prevention again in two months. We are located in Jacksonville Florida and we will be applying our first round of pest prevention to our customers in April.

@@Ambrosius13 be careful with all that Nitergeon. I know the lawn will look awesome but it can create a lot of thatch. Thatch is very difficult to deal with in St.augustine because of the way it grows. I would recommend only doing one big heavy Nitergeon app in the spring. Instead of that second app with 15 Nitergeon I would look for something with humic acids and micro nutritions. A great way to feed the lawn and give the look of lots of Nitergeon without having the down effects of using it too much and creating thatch. If its St.augustine it is way to low. Check out my cuttimg height video. That is a great spring and late summer fertilizer. But do not over use it. 4 inches or higher is what St.augustine should be cut at. Thanks for the comment and support 👍

I put bonus s to grass across street that is full of weeds just to see what happens. Everyone here in lake jackson Texas live by bonus s. Lowe’s is chopped full of it. I use milo. Where do u get 20/0/10 fert ?
@bettercallchadd

Bonus s seems to work well besides in Florida. I see many lawns burned with it and the others don't burn it it almost does nothing for the weeds. I hear great things about Scott's products in other states and for other grasses. You will have to get the 20 0 10 from a local wholesale company. We have a site one here where locals and professionals can get product. I would Google it and do some online shopping to find some locally. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment.

That is great blend. My recommendation would be once in the spring and once at the end of the summer. The rest of the time you should be spoon feeding your lawn with miliorgnite or something with micronutrients. You do not want to apply this year around because that would be way too much Nitergeon and can cause thatch issues down the road. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment and support!!

Avenue south is the only 2-4 D im aware that you can use on St.augustine. its very confusing but avenue south has found a way to have it not effect St.augustine but still kill weeds just as well. It would be a good spring fertilizer but not mixed with weed control. Applying that much nitergeon and weed control at that same is risky for very miminual results in the weed killing category. I just do a regular granular and liquid weed control. Best bang for buck. Neither way is wrong though.

Many other products that will get the same results with the effects and risk. I recommend going to domyownpest.com and get a bottle of avenue south. That will take care of your dollar weeds and not nearly as hot of a product. You can use this year around. You just have to change rates between summer and winter. Any pre emergent that has your turf on the label whether its liquid or granular will be fine. Liquid weed control is the only way to go. @bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
The 15 5 10 is great. Atrazine can easily burn St.Augustine grass. Depending where you are that much Nitergeon mixed with one of the hottest weed killers on the market can do some damage if applied in warm temperatures like 80 and above or just too much. Not much room for error. Also liquid post emergent weed control is the best. Granular does not work that well. They have many better herbicides now that are just as effective without the risk of burning so easily. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment.
