This video is about how to get out of a rut, how to get out of ruts quickly, and not necessarily how to cure depression, as depression is potentially a more serious issue, depending on your situation.... It's a Better Ideas video, and my name is Joey Schweitzer.

Been in a 3 month rut, and it got pretty bad. I lost my job, i defaulted on a couple bills, but recently I started to feel the motivation to get up again. So right now I’ve started with simply hitting the gym. After a couple days of doing that, I cleaned my apartment room at a time. it’s been a couple weeks now and I’ve really gotten into a grove with these. Headed to a couple potential employers tomorrow to see about getting another job. Fingers crossed that my gradual introduction this time leads to better results. Thank you for the content, this was exactly the motivation and reassurance I needed!

Myself, I work for a company that blames me when the people I go to help make a decision that doesn't put money in companies pocket. The people I help have already paid $300 for the 24hr at call service. I then have to go around with someone less qualified to see what I'm doing wrong. I feel very much attacked. Oh I've also been to the doctor and had a talk about it. He just had a good laff and said I'm not the one with the problem. But shit it makes my life a misery.

@@egeniojaramillo9048 No, idiot, you feel bad all of a sudden. Not motivated to do anything, besides eating junkfood, and watching tv shows. Eating junkfood etc, triggers dopamine wich makes you feel good. For example: that bag of cookies you're eating, the reason why you keep eating them while you know you shouldn't isn't only because they are tasty, but also because sugar stimulates the dopamine receptors, releasing dopamine in the brain wich again, makes you feel good.

Rewording my goals has helped me stay on track. Instead of something like “get fit” I used “become more in-tune with my body” followed by ways to do so such as bow flex, skate, dance, etc. I also labeled my goals as falling under one of four categories: physical health, intellectual health, social health, and spiritual health. This helps me remember to keep balance in all aspects of my life and also not be so hard on myself if I don’t work on all my goals that day. If I can work on at least one goal in each category, I’m making progress.
@kdm28

as someone who regularly struggles with executive dysfunction, this video is very helpful! i do a couple of these already- the “do something principal” is basically how i get anything done lol. giving yourself extremely easy goals that would be nearly impossible NOT to do is a great way to trick your brain into starting on tasks you put off. (and if you really don’t end up doing anything beyond that easy first goal, at least you got a little done instead of nothing!) i especially learned from the 2nd and 3rd strategies. i tend to want to ride the high of motivation and end up tiring myself out, putting myself in a brand new rut. even though i know it isn’t working, it’s hard to convince yourself in the moment that taking a bunch of small breaks and rewarding yourself before you’re even that tired is a good idea. hearing someone talk about the logic behind the method is really good for silencing the part of my mind that insists i’m being lazy for not getting everything done in one sitting. all in all, thanks for the video!
