A simpler way to connect the corners of your squares is to use a block of wood. Draw a line on two sides, connecting at the outer edge. Lay one glass piece against the side facing you, lined up with the line on the wood. Lay the second piece on the top of the block, again lined up with the line. Tack solder where the corners meet. Now the pieces are at the perfect right angle and the corners always line up with each other. Repeat with the remaining two pairs of squares. I also use the block to connect the first two pairs of squares.

An alternative approach to the construction starts with an equilateral triangle with the sides the same length as the sides of your pieces. Draw this on paper as your “ pattern”. Inside each side hammer in two horseshoe nails. You will need 3 blocks to hold up the pieces. Lay a piece on each side of the triangle abutting against the nails. Raise each side using a block to hold it in place. Keep adjusting until you see that the pieces are in the correct position i.e. the corners of adjacent pieces are the same distance apart as the length of the piece. Using a additional piece is the easiest way to do this. Once the pieces are in the correct alignment, tack the pieces together. I ended up dropping a drop of solder in each corner. Now remove the structure . To complete the structure, make another piece like you just did. Now, you just need to solder the two “ halves” together. They should fit perfectly and go together easily. I constructed mine using beveled tiles and copper foil ( I didn’t have enough zinc on hand to use that). The bevels provide a very nice prism effect and attract a lot of attention. I think you could really crank these out if you wanted to sell them or make gifts for a bunch of your friends. I have mine hanging on my porch and am waiting to see what the humming birds think of it.

That was about as fiddley to make as I feared. I've yet to attempt any 3D builds, but you gave me an idea of how I might attempt something like this. I think I'd stick with copper foil and copper wire.

Did you grind the glass edges or not bother since not using copper foil? I have a similar piece but it is completely clear glass with a hole and hangar at the top. By adding distilled water and hanging in a window it creates prisms throughout the room. Nice job!

We didn't need to grind the pieces since the zinc covered the corners. Your piece sounds nice. I'd love to see a photo. david.gsglass@gmail.com

What size zinc came did you use? What does the name mean, Sacred Geometric Ball? It turned out great! I am a huge fan and I always follow along until the end! I love your videos!

Sacred geometry ascribes symbolic and sacred meanings to certain geometric shapes and certain geometric proportions. It is associated with the belief that a god is the geometer of the world. We used 1/8" zinc...thanks for your kind comment 🙂🙂🙂

My problem with wire is I can't keep it flush to where I'm soldering. It causes quite a gap then I worry about strength. I thank you for this tutorial and am excited to try! You have Very Good tips without having to buy a bunch of stuff. I really love your channel ❤, your both very patient and humble! 🌈🌻

Thanks, making the ball is murder, it takes some practice and still doesn't always turn out as perfect as we'd like! Thanks for your kind comments. 😀😀😀

Thanks for spending time on the corners. Sometimes I feel like I need four hands but its nice to see that it isn’t always a slam dunk. Neat ball.

Instead of cutting the 20 Guage wire for the hinges, maybe we could solder them first then cut. Will it be easier?
