Thank you for making this. It's tough as a consumer to know the value and effectiveness of a product from reviews found elsewhere. Saved me some money and time here.

I would like to see what it does with the 5er. Some of the other tests I’ve seen were a bit closer. That said they were using it with a 5er and not a bumper tow. So in short, it’s better than a guess but not as accurate as a scale. Maybe that’s why I’m always disappointed when I stand on a scale? 🤣 Thanks Ray

When you mention about how would someone even know what 1/2 way on the accelerator is, that is a good point, I wouldn't know myself. Also, about the whole getting up early in the morning for to do the whole hard acceleration and braking, unless you were to go out to the middle of the night to the middle of nowhere and do it, or just do the latter.
@billfisher67084 жыл бұрын
Your experience and conclusions echo mine, Ray. I did try it with our Montana fiver and I did not find it all that close to the CAT scale weights and I really do not care for all that acceleration stuff to do some of the weights. When I was doing the initial setup I, too, was having problems with the rear tires breaking loose (wheel spin) on our F-350 diesel. Like you said, a gadget.

I just bought mine and I agree with your assessment. I find that it is most often within the 5%, but that there was some variance during the tests I took for the weight of my vehicle. I think that the key is that it gives you a “ball park” estimate, which in most cases is good enough to reassure you if you safe or not. For total accuracy or when you are close to your limits, a official scale is a must. I tested the vehicle weight and the tongue weight, and both were within the 5%. Also, the analogue gauge is not ideal for accuracy.

Hi Ray, I just watched both parts of your review 👍and I'm just wondering if there have been any firmware updates issued since then to improve accuracy. I was on their web site but didn't see anything to indicate there was but maybe I missed it so I thought I'd ask you. Thank you.

I have the Haul gage and my buddy has this product. It seems to us that the hual gage is more accurate on both of our trucks.
@LoveYourRV4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, since I understand that Curt bought out Haul Gauge. Figured they just re-branded it. Maybe they are different versions. I could see how they may change some software algorithms to work better in certain vehicles at the expense of others. There are so many combinations of engines, frames, transmissions, tires, suspension, trailers out there. It must be difficult to make a device that works well on them all.

Thanks a lot. I need accuracy within 25# because I’m hauling right at max tow capacity of 5000# and max tongue weight of 500# . Any suggestions very welcome and needed.

I think most of the campers aren't working at WFP. Likely a good portion are family vacationers out of the cities. Folks that would normally be down in Disneyland or Las Vegas, on a cruise ship or at summer concerts and festivals or people collecting CERB and want a cheap thing to do, may as well go camping! :) But at some point they will have to go back and work I figure or we all go broke.

I tried it as well and found it untrustworthy. First I live in a hilly place and couldn’t find a level place to calibrate it. I tried it going slightly uphill and downhill. The results change appreciably with just a slight change in grade or throttle.

Hi Ray. Have you thought about what you might do for the fall and winter if you are not able to snowbird down south due to COVID ?
@LoveYourRV4 жыл бұрын
Yes, planning on staying here in Campbell River on Vancouver Island until it's safe to travel again. Anne is immune-suppressed due to some medications she takes, so until there is a vaccine or the virus subsides enough and we can get travel medical insurance to cover getting it best to stay in BC where we have free medical coverage.

Weather isn't too bad here, can get some cold and snow but many days even in Dec and Jan you can get out for a hike and lots of great places around here. :) Worse part of winter on the coast is the gloominess, especially after years of getting used to the desert sun. But not complaining we are very lucky where we are. Cheers, Ray

@@Hundert1 The BigTruckBigRV channel has done some pretty good reviews on ways to measure tongue weight. There are CAT scales everywhere to weigh your truck and trailer. I used to work at a metal scrap yard, we used to weigh peoples vehicles and RVs for free all the time. If they needed certificates, like you could get from CAT, we would charge only $10.

Liked the review. Don't care for the product. It is, indeed, a gadget. I thought you had an engine monitoring device plugged into your OBD port that monitored a lot of sensor data. That made more sense than this. Did you have to disconnect all that data feedback for this little bit of inaccurate info? Doesn't seem like a good tradeoff to me.
@LoveYourRV4 жыл бұрын
I do and it works great - www.loveyourrv.com/new-gadget-for-the-truck-bluedriver-obd2-pro-scan-tool/ I have the BlueDriver OBD2 reader to monitor my exhaust gas temps and also to check the truck computer for any fault codes. The BetterWeigh can be plugged into the same port to do weigh measurements. There is only one port but the OBD2 reader devices like these can be plugged and unplugged as needed, they communicated with a smartphone or tablet via a Bluetooth Connection. There is no data feedback. Any data collected is stored on the smartphone or tablet in the corresponding app or sometimes in the cloud then can be updated next time it's plugged into the port. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV So no tradeoff needed, just using the OBD port as an I/O port for the truck. using the smartphone, tablet or Cloud as your storage device. Nice! Jeff
