Sally Swing is voiced by Rose Marie, who was, I think, about 16 at the time. She later turned up on The Dick Van Dyke Show in the sixties...her character in that was also called Sally. I wonder if she also modeled for the rotoscoped dancing performed in this cartoon by Sally Swing?

Yes, she did model for the rotoscopes used in the animation here...she was age 15 at the time.

Thank you for your reply. It's hard to think of her as being that young, as her voice sounds very adult...but she can be seen in the 1934 comedy 'International House' singing as 'Baby Rose Marie' - elevenish, but dressed younger, and with almost the same throaty tones she's using here. Rose Marie died just recently, aged 95.

I still like her from what we saw in this short. She couldn't replace Betty, but it's kind of nice to give her a female friend that isn't a wacky animal or sumthin. Just a damn entertaining singer and performer to boot. One of the most under-utilised side characters in a cartoon I've ever seen, we should bring her back along with Betty seeing as this style has resurged in popularity.

This cartoon introduced Sally Swing the bobby soccer who was supposed to replace Betty Boop, the flapper, in Fletcher Bros cartoons, but it was not to be. Betty Boop would go on a few more cartoons before being retired. Sally Swing was never seen again.

This cartoon was posted elsewhere on KZbin and someone commented that Sally Swing, the bobbysoxer was supposed to replace Betty Boop, the flapper. That never happened. Ms. Boop appeared in a few more cartoons before her series ended but is still remembered. Ms. Swing appeared only in this one cartoon and was forgotten.
