Betty, these remind me in the middle stage of the first large painting I ever saw you do here years ago. I remember how shocked I was when I thought it was done, and you kept going, haha. Here at around 18 minutes, I would have stopped. But when I look at the end pieces, I now see why you continued. These past four years of watching you create, and also painting myself really helped me understand your artist's mind... Thank you!

Going this large without losing the quality of your smaller works isn't an easy task but your confidence that you can do it is inspiring. I deeply appreciate your comments about your process and thoughts. you are very generous in a way that is also inspiring and is such a relief from those who post a painting without any sort of explanation other than title and availability. Thank you, Betty.

You are so very welcome, Jo! I appreciate your kind words. Years ago, I was truly challenged with taking my small art and super sizing it. It has taken years of practice to feel confident (although, when I creating, I'm still searching for my confidence!). I always remind myself that each piece is a journey. I can't create it in one session. When I remind myself of that, then it seems a bit easier to take it one step at a time. Thanks so much for being here!

Thanks for your generous spirit in sharing your painting sessions. It looks like you use quite a small brush despite the size of the canvas. Do you ever use bigger ones ?
@BettyFranksArt8 ай бұрын
Hi Betsy! I used larger brushes in the beginning. Because I love to make marks, I tend to work with smaller brushes. Thanks so much for watching!
@sherrierichard28488 ай бұрын
I was worried about your dealing with that size…NO PROBLEM for you! The size & variations of your shapes and marks keeps the viewers interest, and the colors really harmonized. Hard to see on video but these seemed to have less busy details-larger single colored areas with less detail. Was that intentional from the inspiration pieces? Super job, BEAUTIFUL!❤
@BettyFranksArt8 ай бұрын
Good question, Sherrie! Because I had to supersize the pieces, I wanted to still have some areas that were quiet and calming. However, up close, there's still a lot of cool stuff happening. Thanks so much for watching!

Hey Betty! So fun to see your finished pieces installed! Perfect space! I love the one one the right - I love fuchsia & all the colors with just a little white space. When you do your mark making, do you ever use both of your hands at the same time? And what's the most unconventional painting implement you've used to put paint to canvas?
@BettyFranksArt8 ай бұрын
Hi Koliti! Those are great questions! Sometimes in the early stages, I'll use both hands when making marks--but it's rare. And for the most unconventional painting implement, I would have to say....ugh, I can't think of anything. I'm sitting here trying to think of what I have on my table that I use. None of them seem unconventional. One thing I have used in the past (and would like to incorporate into my process again) is using a branch/stick to create marks. Thanks for asking!!

I just watched your video for the 2nd time. Your brush just seems to glide/float over the surface. Each stroke is so unique. No one does what you can do. You make it look so easy. You have mastered glorious color harmony. How do you stay so clean, yet make such complex multi layered surfaces? Even your hands are paint free. I wear rubber gloves & have to change them frequently cuz they are covered in paint (along with my glasses, hair & clothing,) Interesting too, that your brush sizes are really rather small given the scale of these pieces. It is fun to watch you fill in a largish area with that small brush. I usually use large ones, think I'll try smaller because it allows the under layers to reveal themselves, whereas larger brushes hide more. You also seem to paint quite quickly (I did slow the gear down) which indicates confidence in what you are doing. Those upside down squirt bottles are very cool. Did you put Nova paint into them? Might they be an Amazon product? I do wish Nova put their paints in squirt bottles, less paint gunking up in the lids. You are a great Inspiration & so generous in keeping some free videos on YT. I will do your online class very soon.
@BettyFranksArt8 ай бұрын
Hi Nancy! Thank you for watching the video twice! I do tend to work quickly. I would not describe myself as a slow and deliberate artist. I love using smaller brushes because, as you said, it covers less of the previous layer. I love when there's depth and history to a painting. Did you catch my latest video on how I mix my colors? Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHvNf4OmaM9jqpI Those squirt bottles are called FIFO (first in first out).
