I haven't done any videos of this type (even to the history of the regions like this one you made) but I'm sure this is gonna be a good one. Also, will you be making history videos of your country's (or others) cities as well (e.g Helsinki, Turku, Oulu, etc.) (Yeah, this is just my idea/suggestion, hope no one would take this seriously)

Your video made me cry, it's so sad to see what has become of the Karelian people, they are becoming fewer and fewer, Russia is destroying their language, and the saddest thing is that there are many such peoples, especially among the Finno-Ugrians, I'm talking about Mordovia, Mari El, Komi, Udmurtia and their culture is almost completely destroyed and most of them are assimilated and consider themselves Russian.

Karelia is 90% Russian It will never leave Russia
@kalleranta2260
@kalleranta2260 Жыл бұрын
It is only Russian because of genocide, russification, and Soviet resettlement. The ethnicity, language, and culture is much closer to Finnish and has barely anything to do with the imperialistic slavic muscovite rulers.
@theoneblock7107
@theoneblock7107 Жыл бұрын
@@kalleranta2260 First of all, the ethnicity language and culture is identical to the rest of Russia, the Karelians adapted to Russia not the reverse. The Karelians clearly weren’t supposed to be ethnically cleansed, they had their own soviet republic like Ukraine and Belarus but their numbers were simply too small compared to the Russians who already lived there even before the winter war for hundreds of years (there was absolutely no resettlement of any kind) so the soviet republic was eventually scrapped. The Karelians themselves slowly just assimilated into Russian culture to the point of becoming mostly identifying as Russians themselves, there’s only 43,000 of them now and I doubt there was that much more of them before. If the Finns annexed Russian Karelia, they would be the minority in their own country, completely outnumbered by Russians. Tell me, do you really want a Russian Finland?
@kalleranta2260
@kalleranta2260 Жыл бұрын
@@theoneblock7107 We wouldn't want to take back modern Karelia, exactly because of what Russia has done is irreversable. And I'm sure, if my country of Finland never declared independence, we would most likely speak Russian today.. Ethnic cleansing is engraved in Russia's colonial history to repress independence movements. For example, within just a decade our brothers, Ingrian Finns ceased to exist due to Stalin's Great Purge, and many more ethnicites have been cleansed with up to 1,500,000 people dead in the population transfer in the Soviet Union. One of the reasons why Crimean Tatars are no longer in Crimea, and are replaced with Russians. These ethnicities don't suddenly just disappear within Russian borders, it is clear and deliberate.
@theoneblock7107
@theoneblock7107 Жыл бұрын
@@kalleranta2260 What Russia did was basically the norm, Finland did the same when it invaded the USSR during WW2, it’s incredibly unfair to act like Russia is an outlier when it comes to settling newly conquered lands with their own people. I won’t deny the atrocities that Russia did being the primary cause (no sane person would ever do that) but I don’t think it’s insane to think that much of the ethnic dilution came from Russians simply moving there on their own accord, Karelians, (again) not being all that numerous combined with them just assimilating. Karelia today is just as close to Russia as Moscow or St petersburg, it’s over.
@romaboo6218
@romaboo6218 Ай бұрын
@@theoneblock7107if the Finns Annexed karelia in WW2 the Russians would have been deported. Karelians tried to gain independence in the 1920s during the Kinship wars but were defeated and promptly deported to central asia and Siberia along with having the language banned. The Finnish Ingrians were also Deported resulting in the population of 200k in the 1930s dropping to 120 today.

I don't like that you made Karelia a victim of the USSR and Russia! say thank you that the USSR in general gave autonomy to Karelia, Mordovia, Mari and so on. if there had been tsarist Russia, they would have been assimilated...
@kalleranta2260
@kalleranta2260 Жыл бұрын
Much of Karelia has already been assimilated and russified. The culture and language is fading within Russian borders, and is far more thriving in Finland as ethnic and cultural successor.
@KarelianKhan
@KarelianKhan 7 ай бұрын
Well it is the fact that Russia (No matter who ruled it) actively from the beginning colonized and russified Karelia. After WW2 the Karelian and Finnish communist in Karelia were either killed or moved to Siberia and Russians were moved in to replace them. Same thing happened in the Baltic states too.
