I use a 3/4oz float and I get a lot of false bobber downs. Do you think I should use a heavier float? I also use a 8.5ft rod which is probably too short.

The short rod isn’t helping manage your line in the water but you can get away with it fishing a harder downstream angle or drifts closer to shore. Your float should match the weight you are using so if you have 3/4 ounce weight use a 3/4 ounce float. We use 3/4 ounce gear down there. I hope that helps. Tight lines!

It’s tough to find bottom down there. Watch your float. If it’s slightly angle downstream you are dragging in bottom. It should always be straight up and down or angled slightly upstream. The current speed is always changing in a lot of the drifts and this will mean constant adjustments to that depth. Change depth constantly in 6” increments and watch the float to see what happens. You will find bottom.

Will do you run a shot line or do you tie your leader directly to your main line

I tied my leader to the main line with a micro swivel and put a few large shot right above that swivel and then run the rest down the leader stopping about 14” from the bait.

The boats are only thick like that in November and early December when they are hooking up a lot of lakers. Lots of great water above where the boats can reach as well. Let me know if you want to give it a try.

Gotta run those floats deep, especially now with the colder temps. Lower should lose the crowds soon with the cold temps kicking in. Did you shoot this in late Nov or early Dec? Still noticed some foliage on some of the trees in the background.

Dang those steelies are still fired up! I was down there a week or two ago and caught my PB steelhead. Might need to freeze my hands off and head down there again. Great vid as always!
