@brandonn37 May I suggest listening to their album Colors...its probably my favorite album of all time, its so beautifully written, and you have to listen to it start to finish, every instrument is amazing on that album, you might not love the vocals depending upon what you are used to

@K3VIN552 The screaming is there to give the music a sence of energy and seriousness, not just by the way it sounds, but keeping the performance of the lyrics seem more critical (BTBAM's lyrics are very critical against the obsession and selfishness of mankind). I completely agree that Tommy has a great singing voice, but it's the mixing that makes it perfect. He can switch from plain out screaming to loud vibrato tones in less han 25% of a second, sometimes without even breathing in.

I didn't do it for this song, but you can do it in audacity. basically, you split the track into 2 different parts (it has to be a stereo track) and then you just delete the vocal audio......search "How to do vocal rips".....it will come up, its fairly easy.

I've agreed with that a lot. But I feel it's the band as a whole kind of. It's a Dream Theater situation to me where without the singer they just wouldn't be the same band. BTBAM's heavier sections kind of don't do it for me much, it's the same exact toned growl vocally and the same fast 'complex' riff without much bearing on the actual song. I wish they had more cleans. Their drummer is the best part of the band imo.

Wintersun is my favorite band now, they were probably my favorite when I typed that a year ago. BTBAM is still one of my favorites, but not in the top 5 anymore..still excellent musicians though, saw them on Summer Slaughter and they crushed it, met Dustie and Blake..super cool dudes

I would upload stuff by request if I knew how..I downloaded this instrumental album somewhere...I didn't rip the vocals out myself...I really wish I knew how to do it fully. I know how to do it in audicity, but since suicide silence over dubs their vocals alot there will most likely still be vocal layers left over

@K3VIN552 if you fancy a metal band that doesn't scream (or at least minimal screaming) give Exit Ten a listen. They're not as heavy as BTBAM, especially not their newer stuff, but they're something different and very varied. Give a couple of their songs a try :)

@barret2378 Music is not about difficulty, if a group has talent and can achieve the success of where they've gotten now without any real exposure other than just their talent (kind of like BTBAM) there's no real use on making war on something else another enjoys & besides, I love the solos they have now I'm looking forward to their new album along with BTBAM's EP. You can be a fan of multiple metal bands, believe me it's possible regardless of all the shit talkers there are in the metal world

Between the Buried and me ARE the best prog metal band ever. There are many good bands which are progressive but none can quite top btbam....post modern era anyway...:) Their combination of genres and their musicianship is just epic! =) Paul Waggoner is right up there with the best guitarists of all time, as is Blake Richardson for the drummers of the world .... solo issss purely epic on this song ! love it! @K3VIN552 Didn't listen very much to TGM, but Obfuscation is perfect in the factor of screaming, IMO. Colors is even more perfect, since it has a lot of clean singing. In the bottom I think that the screaming defines the horrible and brutal aspect of the lyrics, as the clean singing delivers the sad and beautiful. I agree, sometimes it might seem like he's just screaming just for the sake of it, but Colors was fucking perfect.

@Antdant4435 I agree with this, my 1 serious complaint about BTBAM is their vocals (nowadays), I feel like the screams are kinda emotionless. Obviously Tommy has a really amazing voice, I wish he would sing more, and not just during slow parts, during fast intense technical parts, that would be truly something else. Everything else about them is completely flawless, my 2nd favorite band ever

Some progressive metal bands these days either try to hard to be progressive and you have a 6 minute piece of ambient music which gets boring, or a band that just isn't progressive enough. I still remember hearing Colors, I put it Foam Born A and I was doing homework..30 minutes later I was like...how fucking long is this one song...I look at iTunes..im in Ants Of The Sky

@K3VIN552 well colors to mee seems like technical playing with screaming over it that occasionally adds short sections that are in other genres, then back to the nonstop technical playing and screaming. It's okay, but i honestly don't see why people like it so damn much. i like alaska better because i'd rather have an album with individual songs than an album with 1 long song

@EpsilonX actually they are very similar, your comparing apples and apples, its not like your comparing opeth and the devil wears prada, thats like comparing apples and oranges. both tommy and mikael have very low deep growls, and pretty much sound the same, mikes sound just a tad deeper though.
