Like many first generation immigrants, Smrithi Ram grew up with the unique challenge of reconciling her own identity with the different cultures surrounding her. Through her experiences with racism, cultural detachment, and her own identity explorations, Ram shares why it is important for our communities to embrace diversity and cultural variety.
Smrithi Ram is a current senior at the University of Cincinnati studying psychology. She will be sharing her experience growing up as a first generation Indian-American woman and how that has affected her relationship with both cultures she is apart of. The topic she is focusing on is cultural detachment.

This is so great! Thank you for sharing your experience and showing people- especially those of bi-cultural identities- that it's okay to embrace both and teach others about what we go through.

Even if that's not how they meant it you have the moment to choose to think of it that way and act as if that's how they meant it changing the dynamic of the situation 💯 percent and in doing so you most likely will have opened they're eyes a bit and changed they're perspective towards you. At first you were just a lamb or sheep 🐑 then you became a sheep of many colors with wings and depending on how they take it the sheep's wool is realized to be what was over they're eyes meanwhile they were looking at a wolf 🐺 loyal and royal don't sit in turmoil like a dragon coil up the aura of the atmosphere of perceptions spitting fire on they're opinion with no fears.... ain't a need in the world to shed a tear cause your to sweet for that my dear. Don't know why I went on a poetic tangent it just happened so I went with the flow 😌. Hope you can look back at this when your spirits are low and it brings them back up makes your face glow.

When a guy picks on or teases you I've been told that it's cause they like you. 👍 just explain how you realize they want to get to know you but if that's they're way of hitting on you they'll have to try harder. Great speech BTW.

FBicoolshaman That's not how culture works, you dum duck! Their is a difference between national and cultural identity. Especially if you are from a country like USA, which is literally made up of only immigrants, with there own cultures; be it Irish, Italian or Indian.
