No, entire teams are not sent home when a player is caught doping. Just the opposite. Not only did Maradona get expelled for doping in the 1994 World Cup - ephedrine, not cocaine - after two games and Argentine went along to the knockout stage with no other sanction, but even when Russian officials were ***caught doping a 15 year-old child*** in team figuring skating at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the governing body just deducted her scores and downgraded Russia's medal from gold to bronze.

I don't understand why the drone thing isn’t allowed, but it isn’t. Hence, it is the rule. I would have liked someone to explain what the advantage is. I thought the practices were open, but apparently not. Im fine with those in management being punished, but punishing the players in this case appears misguided. Also fine with the fine as that is more of a punishment for the management.

In practices, new tactics can be revealed by a coach to thwart their next opponent. Those tactics aren’t meant to be observed by anyone.

One or Two players get chosen at random to get tested for possible doping violations after each game. If one of those players tests positive, the whole team does not get sent home. It doesn’t even change the outcome of the game that was just played. The player - THE GUILTY PLAYER - is then disciplined. And depending on the quality and position of that player, it could impact how the team plays with the guilty player suspended. The reason why the whole team in a 4x100 relay is suspended is just the singular nature of the endeavor of a relay. It’s about getting the baton around the track.

One obvious reason why the whole team was punished is because Bev Priestman and Soccer Canada lied at the onset. They tried to pass it off as a rouge act by an insignificant "unaccredited analyst", done without their knowledge. They lied, were stupid enough to think people would believe them, and FIFA wasn't happy about that and punished the "team" (players AND coaches make up the "team"). Pretty simple .

The players knew about this for sure. The guys who used the drone would certainly have told the team what NZ did in practice. Then it is the players duty to repeat the cheating. Herdsman and Priestman should move to another country.

lol full disclosure I am from New Zealand. But any way you slice this at the end of the day the team got a massive competitive advantage over their direct opponents. That game’s result should have been null and voided not saying the point should be awarded to New Zealand, but there’s no way they can be giving points to Canada for beating a team that they were caught red-handed spying on before the game was even played. And not only that after further investigation the full extent of their dirty sneaky cheating intentions were laid bare. The team should be thrown out of the tournament .Whether the players knew or not is irrelevant because the coach sets the game plan specific to the team they’re about to play. It is a bunch of horsesh*t that Canada were allowed to have the three points for that “win” The analogy with doping in a team sport just shows the duuuurrrrrrr going on in this convo 😂

Here's something I've been pondering, and wouldn't mind seeing discussed: Canadian goalkeepers routinely go down "injured" in the second half, and all the pundits do is smile and wink and make jokes. Feigning injury is a cautionable offense, and these "tactical timeouts" are obviously done to gain advantage over an opponent. So why isn't this being decried as unethical and cheating? I get that feigning injury is violating the Laws of the Game, while dronegate mostly violated FIFA's Code of Ethics. So maybe it is two very different things, and you can brush off goalkeeper timeouts as "gamesmanship". But I'm not sure I find that argument compelling. It seems to me more like a case of "you can get busted spying with drones, but there's no way for officials to tell if a goalkeeper is really hurt. So yeah, it's unethical and cheating, but you can't get caught, so that makes it okay" I'm not defending spying, or any form of cheating. I just feel that attitudes here might be inconsistent.

@@rubybaby5811 It's more prevalent on the men's side, as Borjan was famous for it, but the women do it too. Rewatch the Colombia game - it's on the CBC youtube channel, and Sheridan goes down on one knee and calls for a trainer at 64:28.

It happens in England with women's club sides. Goalkeeper goes down, the rest rush to the touchline as if a pre planned tactic. If an outfield player went down they would have to leave the field, goalkeeper not applicable.

Boy was I wrong about the coaches involvement on this drone shit. Now not only am I disgusted that Bev has the balls to preach integrity and yet have little herself. Then the next question is what about the Tokyo gold medal, is that now up for review... OMG! So if this drone usage was systemic and continous AND if it's found that it was used at the last world cup which provided no benefit, should there still be penalities since the team didn't advance from this 'spying'. Then since it seems all this shit started with Herdman, what penalities will the men's side face. Wow this is all too much for my little pin head to undertake... 😲😲😠😠😣😣😫😫😡😡🤬🤬 Love the show btw.

She disgraced our team, our athletes and our country. She needs to be gone for good and never allowed to coach on any level again. As a Canadian I am not just pissed off but completely disgusted by her and her actions and the dark cloud she cast over the team and country.
