In 1 of my favorite episodes Jed asked Jethro, who is using a cake bowl to eat his cornflakes; "How many bowls of flakes have you had, boy?" Jethro, "Just one, Uncle Jed." Jed, "One!!??" Jethro, "Yeah one bowl, filled it 5 times but it's the same bowl".

I must have been just a baby when all this originally aired. I remembered the actors did commercials for the Kellogg's company; but until now I've never seen this one. I think I would have loved to see a few episodes with Granny shopping at the supermarket.😊😊😊😊

Wow at 2:33, that's pretty amazing looking at those stats from back then and comparing it to today, according to the average spending compared to hourly salaries of today it would take around 14 hours of work to buy a month's groceries...pretty fascinating how much it has changed!

The stats are at 3:21 14 hours for “the average family”? No, that’s probably per person and “the average family” she refers to was then 4 or more. 14 times 4, makes 56 hours for a month for the family whereas it was 37 then - that sounds more correct. Since wages have gone down in relation to food prices that would make sense. This reflects as much about mean wages and family size, as it does the price of food.

At that time we considered these integrated commercials as part of the program . We did not become aware of this until these programs were in syndication they were not .

what blows my mind is i’ve only seen these shows in syndication and always thought the way they listed the names in the closing credits, staggered or with a space on part of one side, to just be an artistic choice. Here i can finally see the credits were stacked that way because of pictures of sponsors products that were in the shots!! For syndication, they simply removed the sponsor’s products without redoing the credits!

These integrated commercials seem strange now but back then they seemed as normal as prescription drug commercials are now .The actors in those days did the sponsor commercials either in their characters as this example or as their real selves typically on the set after a shot scene . I remember Andy Griffith pitching Sanka coffee in the court house . And Don Knotts pitching Gaines dog food by a backyard doghouse , Not to mention Garry Moore smoking Winston after Winston all during I'VE GOT A SECRET in the 1950s with the Winston logo displayed on both his moderators desk and the panels desk all during the show . There was little doubt who was paying the bills on this show ! I think by 1966 TV networks, particularly ABC , the poor network , had gone away from primary sponsors or even alternating sponsors to participating sponsors who have no direct connection to a certain program . That's the system we have place today .

At 1:11, Jerry Scoggins said "gg" stood for "Double Good", I didn't know they used that way back then. I remember it in recent years, though. This was made in 1963, as per the date given at the end. At one point (maybe the first season), Donna Douglas (Elly May) said "This has been a Filmways presentation". A male voice said it other times.

Bill Baldwin , the old Bob Cummings - Paul Hennings announcer did the Filmways production credit on the first 3 years of the program . After it switched to color in 1966 Donna Douglas did the credit. Similar Larry Keating always did Mr. Ed credit until death , then continued with Alan Lane , Mr Ed himself in his straight voice. I guess Filmways considered this as their trademark for their actors to do their shows production credit as Linda Kaye eventually did Petticoat Junction and Eva Gabor did Green Acres. Even Ted Cassidy did a few on the Adams Family

That used to be the industry standard in the 40s, 50s, and 60s but FCC rules now prevent most integrated ads. There has be a separation between the show and the ad that is more clearly understood by the viewer, especially in children's programming. A good example is that no Pebbles cereal ads can be run during a block of Flintstones cartoons.

This was cute, but they shouldn't have had Granny be the one to go ga-ga over the supermarket (should have been Jethro who LOVES to eat!) because she always bemoaned that the supermarkets never carried any of the foods she wanted (hog jowels, possum belly, etc), and was very perplexed by frozen food. The stores also didn't carry anything she liked to put in her potions or "medicines.' But I still like this because I love the Hillbillies. Y'all come back now, ya hear?

I think it had to do with Kelloggs being the principal show sponsor and wanting to push a pro-grocery message. Lots of families still grew food in gardens back in the 50s and 60s. In fact, there's a whole episode in early season 2 about convincing Granny not to plough the front yard area by showing her a supermarket. It's a bit out of character and a sour note to have a rural-minded show disparaging rural values on the sponsor's say-so.

I have always wondered ever since I was old enough to look and understand, how did they get there with no headlights on that old car they drove? It's pretty clear to see that the thing had wood on the headlights part. I liked that vittles commercial. And Yes, I remember Kelloggs Corn Flakes sponsoring The Beverly Hillbillies show as a child. But in the early 1970s though. I have no memory of this commercial, I'm 52 years old. We've bought and ate that delicious cereal forever. As for their cigarette ads, I have no memories of those at all. I don't remember cigarette commercials either. I like bananas the best on my Corn Flakes.

The integrated commercials while they are fun to see required extra work for cast and crew. They had to be written, rehearsed and filmed in addition to show itself . The folks now a days do not have to be concerned about this extra load . Think about that while you see Harriet Nelson recite the virtues of a Kodak Brownie camera from 1957 . I am not used to the TV characters addressing you strait into the fourth wall .
