@denari z Yeah...LA in the 80's had horrible smog. Very unhealthy...but it look spectacular on film. Watch the first 10 minutes of Die Hard and you'll see the same thing. It was cleaned up in the 90's so we don't get that anymore.

@mikes.2181 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! The irony here, with her being in it, and in Cobra, as Beverly Hills Cop was originally going to have Stallone in it. With him in the cast it would have been a different movie entirely. As I understood it, Stallone re-wrote a lot of the script, and knowing how Sly likes action in his movies, it was no longer in the production budget. So they went a different direction and casted Eddie Murphy, and Stallone got to do his version of it as Cobra.

Better music, better movies, better culture, better sports, better and more balanced country here in the US, better time to be a male. Political correctness was really not a thing in the 80's and so much of the entertainment was geared towards boys and men. Including the rise of Nintendo video games, action movies galore, and Wrestling and Boxing were both great during this decade. I really miss it.

Movies aren't made like this any more. This intro is really riveting. I actually got a rush watching the intro on DVD today after having not seeing it in a long time. This same year, Michael Douglas came out as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. In the 80s, America saw corporate raiders, great music, movie soundtracks like no other, things were still made here as NAFTA hadn't yet been signed and you could go in a store and buy a short that said Made In USA and stockbrokers used Quotron machines.

I knew there was something familiar with that music. Reminded me about Tango & Cash and The Running Man. So 80's, so perfect.

The first one had a grit to it that still looks good even today but I love how literally the opening frame of this film is so pure Tony Scott, he's one of those directors you could just tell who made it. Goddamn this is such a great looking film.

This is brilliant (and further proof Tony was the more talented Scott brother.) What's great about this scene isn't just how it establishes what an intimidating and well-oiled machine Brigitte Nielsen's crew are, but we haven't even gotten into her almost killing Bogomil yet and her "only" being the lover of the real bad guy. The stakes haven't been established and yet, just like in The Dark Knight, we as the audience already know the hero(es) are up against someone way more intimidating than the previous antagonist and someone who does NOT fuck around.

Sunglass lenses are still large today. It doesn't make sense to have small sunglass lenses because they don't provide enough sun protection.

The introduction with the robbery to the jewel's shop and the beginning with introduction of Axel Foley in the Detroit's morning so his performance in front of the mirror and all the sequences of Ferrari that speeding away on the highway is all great, when we say: real action!! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬Good Harold Faltermayer too. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤

3:26-3:28 I do the same thing whenever I wear a coat and tie, recalling the movie, and I start laughing. Then I get in my Toyota, er, Ferrari, and drive off. I saw this with a girlfriend when it came out. SPOILER ALERT The scene where Taggart blows up Karla, saving Axel, and then says to Axel, "Women!", was pretty funny, and made me laugh and the rest of the audience as well...except the girlfriend. She complained all the way home about how sexist it was, violent against women, etc., completely forgetting that Karla was a stone killer. It was also the last time I went out with that girlfriend.

She's also forgetting that Taggart is having marital problems and saving Foley from an aggressive woman was just reminding him of his own girl trouble.
