Having these non-permanent connections really fits into the LEGO system, actually. I love designing and building things in LEGO also because you can improve and change things any time without having to discard pieces (as you would have to, e.g., when working with wood). Being able to do the same with the lighting system does totally make sense to me. I'm wondering how stable these wire connections are over time when the elements are moved around or the wires get into contact with dust, though. Would really be interesting in you sharing your experiences in the future on how durable the system is.

The new road plates with their central holes are also perfect for narrow runways as you can easily install LED lamps below and put a clear coloured tile of your choice over the top.

This looks great. A quick suggestion. Instead of alternating red and white, what about for each light using a red and clear cheese wedge back to back. If it works, you will get white when facing one way down the runway and red when facing the other way.

Very cool and super helpful! Couple of questions because I know nothing about electrical, what would happen if you put it to 5V without the resistor? How many lights can you hook up to one power supply?
@lightingbug
@lightingbug 3 жыл бұрын
The LED probably wouldn't light up at the higher voltage or burn out very quickly. LEDs work in a specific range, so you put resistors inline to drop the voltage down to what the LEDS need. If you buy a ready made kit you usually don't have to worry about adding resistors.

Can you elaborate a little more on why you added the resistor? If you added more LED, wouldn't they bring down the resistance, too? Or did you add it in this video for the LEDs you had in place at the time of filming?
@BevinsBricksWorld
@BevinsBricksWorld 2 жыл бұрын
When the lights are in parallel you need the resistor to decrease the voltage. But yes using the lights in series will cause the voltage drop without a resistor.

This method makes wiring up and then lighting up the city a snap. If you need to swap a LED for a different color, disconnect from the bus and color change done. What size resistor did you have on the adapter end?

Hmmm? Now you're tempting me to get cost saving creative with the ton of pre resistored LED's I have around. One gizmo I discovered that might be interesting for your airport is Light My Bricks offers a "Rotating Sequence Effects Board" which seems almost tailor made for runway lighting effects. The LMB sets are expensive, but they make some effects and controller boards that no one else offers and they work with lower cost LED's as well. Anything using that same microconnector.

How about Space Craft and interior lighting of dashboards/instrument panels for the bridge, commander, navigator, captain, etc? I'm trying to scratch-build a pilot's cabin for my 12-inch astronaut figure. I've built 3 and had to tear them down and start over. I never thought to use Legos! Brilliant! All I have to do is find out what you meant by Mills when you were putting the panels on the runway (about 6m:10s). Thank you for any help :)
