Will a thumb turn wire not work on this cylinder? You’re videos are very good and well explained. Just found out that you only live down the road from me. If you would like to meet up for a coffee and have a chat some time would be nice. I am now semi retired warrant Lockie.
@FortressLocksmiths3 жыл бұрын
Are you in Blackburn Martin? And no the thumb turn wires won’t work on this unfortunately, as a basic rule of thumb any British Standard or one star and above cylinder the wire won’t work on as most brands got rid of the design flaw that allowed them to be bypassed

Sorry I'm so late to the party, but did you have any joy with the cut down key method? I'm wondering if once in the trap pins, a bump key could get you out and engage the cam at the same time, just for split second. Could that be enough to move the cam a few degrees past the trap pins so you could pick it up again with the long tension tool?
@FortressLocksmiths3 жыл бұрын
The only thing is with a bump key you’ll struggle to get it in on the position because the pins that aren’t in the trap position are solid so they key won’t go past unless it’s really really low cut. The problem is that with the thumb turn the cam has to be constantly engaged so constant forward pressure is needed. It’s the same with ABS even when you use the dedicated GJ pick if you release pressure even slightly you’ll lose the cam and you won’t even know it if it’s in the door. The cut down key on a plug spinner is the only way past it I can see
@liamperkins37213 жыл бұрын
Hadn't considered the bump key not fitting - my bad. Sounds like the plug spinner/key is the only way. I was faced with one of these on a lockout last week, pure luck that it was a ground-floor flat with a window left on a nightlatch. Air bags popped that right open. Not sure if I would have got in otherwise. Thanks for the reply, your channel has some really great content.
@FortressLocksmiths3 жыл бұрын
@@liamperkins3721 the key/key cylinder is relatively easy to pick and once you’ve got the cam you’ve got it so doesn’t matter if you take your tension tool out etc ….think I’ll have another bash at my training centre tomoz 💪🏻🔑

I don't understand why manufacturers don't ALL provide a way to prevent lock turners being used (e.g. through a letterbox) on thumbturns e.g. a button or push to engage etc.
@FortressLocksmiths2 жыл бұрын
On this particular one it is push to engage, BUT , the ironic thing is it actually left the customer locked out even though he had the key , if it wasnt in the 12/6 o clock position you couldn’t insert the key, they did away with this feature
@richiero0o02 жыл бұрын
@@FortressLocksmiths Avocet did away with the need to push to engage the thumbturn because of the lockouts. You can still push the thumbturn in but doing so makes no difference as it works without anyway! Annoying as I specifically wanted one where you needed to do something to engage the thumbturn.
@FortressLocksmiths2 жыл бұрын
@@richiero0o0 yep I’ve got a load of them at the training centre and the one in the video is the only one that you physically need to push in to engage the cam , the only other one that i know of is the Yale Conexis , but they are shite

@@FortressLocksmiths think APECS have one with a button? Any recommendations for preventing a lock turner being used? I guess a guard of some sort?
