This was a very good firm yet empathetic way of saying this. I (20yo) have a (C)PTSD & depression diagnosis from a rough childhood, but I have now from years of therapy and more recently medication as well, healed a lot from it. I am beginning to go back to being a functioning human, and so now one challenge I face is that inner, hurt, voice that has an unquenchable want for empathy and care being too tempting when I don't need it anymore, and me letting myself down by giving too many excuses as to why I'm not doing what I should *_(and reasonably can)_* be doing. It's tricky, because you have to learn to differentiate between the times you _actually_ need help and cannot do it alone because of your disorder, and the times when you could but you misused your diagnosis as an excuse and didn't even try. The human brain is a selfish organ developed over thousands of years to have to do as little as possible and be as selfish as possible to survive. It's not easy to ignore it, sometimes. I really feel like this video was empathetic yet did not lie in an attempt to comfort. It is true that horrible, genuinely terrible awful things can happen. Life can be so fucking unfair, and it isn't right. You are a human and cannot be expected to be perfect. But it is very important that you do not excuse yourself from what you _can reasonably do._ Someone who is still too hurt and needs to heal more, will likely jump ro blaming themselves for overreacting and think they should be able to perform as everyone else does, or that I am expecting that of them, but that is not the case. When you have s broken bone, you need to let yourself heal. When you have a mental trauma, you also need to have compassion with yourself and let yourself heal. You are not a one person island, and don't feel guilty for needing the time you need. But when you are more healed, you have a moral obligation to then try to grow independent ince more and try to slowly fulfil the tasks and responsibilities you - again, *_reasonably_* - can fulfill. Thank you!

Oh gosh, many typos. I will ignore it though and instead finally put away my phone to try to sleep, since it is way too late and I've been avoiding it. I wish anyone who sees this a good day

This hurts so much, because I tried to focus on this during covid and it still didn't help me back then. Yes, now covid is ver and I succeed little by little in things, but just the thought that it was like that keeps haunting me

How strange, to take that responsibility on just for a moment was scary and painful. Guess I have to do it until it's not...

Are you serious. You really think you stand a chance against society? Don’t expect society to change for you bud. You have to change for it, and control it to your will.

I disagree. You can always move places and see if you can dodge circumstances not all circumstances or dodger ball and you’re just gonna have to cry through society sometimes, but you can always dodge by moving.

Listen to Thomas Sowell who grew up in the Bronx and others born today tell their stories and how to overcome the system cleverly. Read books and listen to the stories of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation immigrants from the Middle East, Ravi Zacharias, and Romesh Wadhani. Be blessed.

So to combat victim mentality you’re justifying all the “bad things” that happened to them, which in turn, leads to more victim mentality…. So smart lol.

This seems like good advice but is really just another way of saying you should bury and ignore the parts of your past that hold you back. Not everything can be dismissed so easily, and to be able to do so is actually a privilege.

That's not what this means. NEVER ignore or bury parts of your past... You must dive into that and learn how to process it, which is what I teach! 👌

He acknowledged that stuff plays a role. But to put it as the main blame is the error that make us live as victims. That stuff basically takes a huge backseat when we use the power of controlling how we choose to respond to it. How we treat ourselves is what matters most and we can choose how

This is actually more like a way of taking things that we wish were dead n buried and instead breathing new life into them. Using bad experiences as opportunities for growth. Instead of excuses

Incorrect, friend. It is saying all of those things exist and happened, but don't let that define you and stop you from moving forward.
