If you're curious why they did this, because TV and device manufacturers paid them to do it. Remember that the HDMI Consortium, the company that controls the HDMI standard and Licensing, is run by all of the TV and device manufacturers. Recently, those manufacturers took over, and made it so that everything will have the same number attached to it so that consumers are more confused. It is a vastly anti-consumer move, and is 100% done to be confusing, so somebody might get an old device that doesn't support 4K 120 hertz, but it's still HDMI 2.1 in the marketing materials. This was solely done for marketing material. That's it.

100% agree. I'm OK with "HDMI 2.1 Good" or something to say it is the full HDMI 2.1 - all bandwidth, all features and "HDMI 2.1 CRAP" edition if it is only a fraction of the bandwidth or missing features. They'll get away with it by making cabled HDMI 2.1 "compatible"

👍👍 *I have a TCL C735* It's got all features 100% But that black screen you were talking bout that happens as the Tv changes resolution and settings in inputs especially in gaming..That's fine..but sometimes this happens during mid-game With all features turned on? And sometimes those features automatically change on their own So i need to keep checking from time to time To see if they are still on? Annoying.. that pisses me off?? Don't know why and not sure if it's the Tv Or the game content but regardless it shouldn't happen I know the Higher End Tvs like Samsung And Sony don't have that issue... But for the most part it works ok But when your playing and you're in a battle Or fight scene and it cuts off like that For at least a couple seconds Makes me wanna take a baseball bat to it The sound is still going but not screen

(3:15) Those numbers provided are Anglo-centric and not international. - "8K@60", the usage of "@" for "at" works only in English, because it's called an at-sign. But in other languages, it has all kind of random names like "cinnamon bun", so it says "8 thousand cinnamon bun 60" for example. Meaningless. It is a commercial at, such as the meaning of "X for each of Y", which also doesn't apply here, because it isn't a resolution of 8K for each set of 60 images, it is instead 8K per each image. An actual international way to write this would be "8K·60Hz" because this multiplies the 8K with 60Hz, because you have 8K, 60 times a second. - "480Gbps" is another English abbreviation. It is for the exact same reason why the international symbol for kilometre per hour is "km/h", because it's using the international x/y mathematical formula. The correct way to write it internationally is "480 Gb/s". I guess this just adds to the lack of quality of this whole thing.

This video is incorrect. HDMI Licensing Agreement prohibits use of the version number, because, for example, a 4K120 TV and a 4K120 VRR TV both use HDMI 2.1 features but they are not the same. All of these various HDMI products will interoperate, but if you want something that transmits at the maximum resolution and refresh as your display, then you need to look for that capability when you purchase the Source device. The HDMI Version Number cannot tell you these things. The Version Number pertains only to the Specification and not what the end product does. If HDMI did things Joe's way, then you could only buy one single type of HDMI television. You could not buy a 4K120 TV unless it was ALSO an 8K60 TV. Would you want that?

I remember shopping for an HDMI 2.1 cable, I thought it will be straight forward to buy, but it wasn’t as the marketing did not make it clear. And now, we have this. Sheesh 😢 But thanks for detailed information about this.

48Gpbs, 24Gpbs, etc.. that's too easy to understand, consurmers want that ultra-mega-super-duper-fast-as-lightning-speed, which is actually slower than hyper-mega-duper-very-very-fast but still faster than yippi-ca-yee-super-fastest-speed.

Does ethernet over HDMI tell us that the cable is rated for aARC? 12:29 Thank you, ThioJoe. So much to know. yes, very

I can't wait to buy things with unclear features and return them. That sounds like fun and totally not a waste of gas and trip to Walmart. Why do we put idiots in charge of naming things? I bet they asked the guys over at USBIF to pass some of the stuff and this is the result. It's like when Microsoft tried to label every minecraft on every platform "Minecraft" and just ignore that different things are different.

8K UHD DisplayPort Cable】Adoreen Ultra High Speed DisplayPort 1.4 Cables Support Resolution up to 8K (7680x4320) including 5K (5120x2880 @ 60Hz), 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160 @ 144Hz) and 4K@60Hz, 2K@240Hz, 2K@165Hz, 1440P,1080P@240Hz . I already learned about this about over 10 years but yes people think just because it says HDMI means to be what they want. Especially people that don't have technology.

Not necessarily thx already certified select TV’s be true HDMI 2.1 note almost nothing uses technology anyway so don’t really matter unless using apple or Xbox or ps5 disc drive unit. Only other thing would actually have 2.1 is custom built Nvidia high end gaming computer which cost over 3,000 us. Dollars from look of it that it at this time.

Thats doesnt make ANY sense, its literally the exact opposite reason to do it; only the newest, true 2.1 cables/devices would meet the spec, so literally anything older IS EXPLICITLY not 2.1. This is marketing people taking over, not engineers, only the former would be so dumb and deceptive to pull such bs.
