As a Korean, this MV is really moving and meaningful. Some people who are not so educated (or semi-knowledgeable) about Korea-Japan history say that Korea needs to let go of the historical tensions. Korea is a country whose people care greatly about each other. We still feel the pain that our older generations suffered during the Japanese imperialism (e.g. comfort women to be used as sex slaves, forcing entire country to not speak Korean and only speak Japanese, massacring innocent people - especially during 3/1 peace protest, murdering the Queen of Korea - Myungsung hwanghoo, killing thousands of national animal species like Korean native tigers, taking most of Korean native cows, destroying and stealing thousands of national treasures, and many others). There are still numerous surviving victims of comfort women. We Koreans like Japan as a country and its culture, but the constant efforts by the Japanese government to hide the true history and deny the horrible oppressions between 1910-1945 greatly saddens many Koreans. That is why we try harder to remember our history, to fight to keep the truth. This is a very emotional MV for many Koreans to remember how hard our ancestors fought for their freedom and how important freedom is. It is important to always remember history, to make sure that such horrible things will never happen again

@일산발해인 obviously not for every single korean, but come on, on general scale, koreans do consume a lot of japanese cuisine and culture such as anime, sushi, ramen, tonaktsu, and so on. and that's not a bad thing. japanese love korean culture as well. what is really toxic is the japanese government, why would we hate japan and japanese for that? there are lots of issues at country level but we shouldn't hate each other on individual level
@asl21495 жыл бұрын
@@nada-iu9yg i agree with everything you said. I think it's also some of the japanese media that add to the hatred towards korea. i've watched numerous japanese shows about korea on youtube and they seem to downgrade on korea a lot (i've personally felt that way and so did a lot of korean viewers on those youtube videos) and add incorrect translations and so on. most of footage about korea on japanese tv has negative tones that makes the japanese viewers to not like korea, whereas in korea, most of footage about japan is very positive. also, like you said anti-Korean books sell quite well in Japan, whereas there are almost no (or none) anti-Japan books. the korean war really helped japan recover a lot like you said as the US needed lots weaponries and therefore built a lot of those factories in japan, which helped boost their economy a lot, although i'm not sure if that is really related to the message i'm trying to give. But agree with everything you said

Korea has a long history of being "used" by Russia, various Chinese factions, Japan, and the United States. Many revolts and revolutions have taken place. The Split into North and South was a result that has still not been resolved and forever created a pain. Imperial Japanese rule, and American military issues continue to control Korea. In the middle of all this, we have the Korean people. Many political prisoners, deaths, betrayals. The courage and resolution of the Korean peace-maker activists and revolutionaries are embedded in this video. I'm Black-Japanese, living in San Francisco, and understand historical oppressions. Thank you so so much for reacting to this. It's an incredible piece of work.

@A. L. But Korea did not defeat the Japanese... Without America entering WWII and developing/dropping the atomic bomb, Korea would probably still be under Japanese control.
@scavengerhunting92955 жыл бұрын
@@icharus That's not necessarily true. Many people were preparing to fight and the leaders of the independence movement were planning a full out war with Japan. But Japan was bombed before these plans could take place and thus, made everyone's efforts uselss. Many people rejoiced at the news but were also disappointed because they did not get their country back with their own two hands. So even if America didn't bomb Japan, we still would have made it. Also, America is part of the reason Korea is divided right now, so I don't really have good feelings towards America either.

I cried watching this and cried again watching your reaction. It’s history that lives in the hearts of Korean people. We understand the price everyone paid for freedom, and remembering the past is our first step to moving forward.

Even as a Korean living in America, I’m still heavily invested in my home country and still share and feel the weight of our history. In Korean, I think there’s a word that summarizes this feeling, “han” which poorly translates to “grudge” or “burden.” It sounds negative and scary but it’s also beautiful in how as a nation all its people share that burden of our past. My dad often said that if you listen to traditional Korean instruments you can hear that “han” as if the instrument is crying out with the sorrows that our people have gone through.

There are other comments that explain it better than I, but I feel like many Americans know about the Korean War and how devastating it was because America was (and is) so involved in that conflict, but we don't know about how for 35, 1910-1945, Korea was occupied and heavily oppressed by the Japanese. Korea has a very long and proud history, but their culture was systematicly trying to be wiped out. They were mistreated, many enslaved;, temples, palaces, and art destroyed; even their language was banned from use. Any freedom fighters who arose (of which there were MANY) if caught were executed or often sent to what was basically a concentration camp to be tortured for years until executed. There's some references in this vid to some of those freedom fighters who are now considered national heroes. Also since the war there has been a lot of political corruption and it's been an ongoing fight for freedom even within their democratic government. Those clips from the 60s and 80s are of mass protests. Much like the Civil Rights Movement going on at the same time in America it wasn't very pretty and got very violent at times, but something to be very proud of because it was people banding together to make their nation better. A whole lot of bad happened in last 100 years, but also a lot to be proud of. Not to mention becoming one of the safest and most advanced countries in the world in such a short time...even after such devastation

I Majored in East Asian Studies and lived in Korea. I consume media from Japan and Korea and I get so angry by Japan's attitude towards what they did trying to cover it. I have lost count of how many times I've had to teach non-Asians about it because Japan has done an amazing job at portraying themselves as victims. When a non-Asian comes to me loving Japan and talking about it like it's perfect I'm like "bitch, let me tell you somethin'..." and then I rant. I'm not saying that Korea or China are perfect, they have done their share of bad things and keep doing them, and they need to change. No country or culture is perfect. I sometimes think that Japan's issues come from the fact that they can't accept the fact that they're a mix of not only native Japanese but also Chinese and Korean. Like they don't want to test their ancient emperators' blood because they might not even be Japanese.

I think there is something in common between Koreans and Black(similar emotions and music and etc..in history) because there was an era of oppression. they all sang about free and independence. That`s why many of Koreans love black music. As a Korean I don`t hate Japanese, but I don`t like Japan. I`m very sorry Japan still have not apologized for their invasion and oppression, rather justify the past.

I'm from Korea. This song means a lot to Koreans. Many people do not know the history of aggression because Japan is better known for its international status and culture. They are the great independence fighters who made Korea today. The Japanese government have distorted textbooks in indicating Dokdo as Japanese territory, so far. Historically, however, this is clearly Korean territory. So far, Japan does not recognize the Japanese military sexual slavery. I have apologized several times in the past, but not all of them were sincere. He didn't even make any reparations. I hope many people around the world know the wrong judgment about the current Japanese government. Also, please understand and listen to our ancestors' hard work when listening to this song.
