I have a 1972 H-frame external frame pack. Nylon with the same cotter pin set up. Light as anything and holds enough for weekend hikes. I don't use it anymore but can't get rid of it. This pack was the bee's knees back in the 70s. Frameless packs just need sensible packing as you said. Another good vid.

I love that external framed Loadstar rucsac, and it reminded me to look for something similar, just for the frame to use instead of the heavy steel frame of my Swedish Army, Haglof, canvas LK35... about time I went to some car boot sales. I knew the founder of the Karrimor brand, Charlie Parsons, he'd been a pro-cyclist who then had a cycle shop in Rawtenstall (about 18 miles North of Manchester) post war, and they started making cycle bags and panniers which eventually expanded and the Parsons family opened a factory in Accrington and started making rucksacks and diverging into other outdoor gear. I lived a couple of miles away from Rawtenstall, so a young lad in the 60s, up until the 70s, when I joined the RAF, I was a regular customer for parts, and his advice as I built my own off road bike for use on the moors long before mountain bikes were a thing in the UK. It's a shame that rucksack is such poor quality, Charlie would be spinning. They started getting certain items made in China in the '90s as they were struggling to compete, and in the early '00s Sports Direct acquired them and selling Karrimor branded budget kit, of which I suspect that Munroe 65 originated. look at stormsure as a way to reproof the inside of the gelert lid, (if you deem it financially viable) OR a waterproof fabric paint. Btw ... had 2 karrimor sabres ... they were excellent, as i understand it the brand has two product lines ... first is budget and commercial for hikers, campers ... the other is aimed at military users and made to a much higher standard (and priced accordingly)

SF kit will be superior, the point I probably failed to make is, side branching the same company, will undoubtedly lead to compromising its branding.....Either make shit products or make quality products, why risk ring-fencing the reputation.... I bought £100 karrimor boots, will they fall apart after a couple of days, WHO KNOWS ? WHO CARES ? ITS A LOTTERY..... Point being rebrand or shop from a more trusted flapship name such as Berghaus where ALL products are under the flag of quality... I think we had a similar thoughts on Kombat UK. Shit products mixed in with better quality products, A TOMBOLLA OF GUESS WORK AND LUCK....lol

I had a karrimor panther civvie pack which lasted me 30 years before it gave out , which I considered pretty good going . Bought a pair of karrimor boots in 2014 which lasted me 6 months . .... A real decline in quality .

That's for sure. I suspect Karrimor SF Burgens are solid enough, but cast doubt over the entire company (IN MY OPINION ONLY) for any one reading this thread with a stick up their ass....lol

I really need a new pack. I don't care about weight but I do care about space so bigger the better. I saw the video you did on the Dutch Army rucksack (don't know the difference between a rucksack or a backpack) but I can't find any in my price range. What would you recommend for 100l plus pack on a budget?
