I have tried many mics over the years (almost 20 years now) and for live use, this mic has been the best one! It was a revelation when I first tried it and compared it to other mics. It does naturally how I would usually EQ my voice, so it's super easy to plug it in and go. In the studio I use the AKG C414II, but for live, you can't beat this one! (depending on your voice and style)

I’m so glad to see you reviewing modern Beyers. They’re so underrated!! Sorry, joking. Beyer knows what it’s doing, focusing on smooth response. That’s what we need. A smooth response, even if not to your taste, can be easily EQ’d. Very helpful review.

Thanks for the shakedown... I learned a good few things. I've been using this mic for 2+ years. It sounds so nice for my voice... smooth presence and a ton of output for a dynamic. And my Beyer has a switch (TGV70ds) , which is really good for the type of loud music I play.

Interesting review. I'd love to see this compared with it's stage cousin the Sennheiser e935 or it's reporter's price equivalent, the Sennheiser MD-46. Mostly because I own them both but also because it seems to have attributes than can be used similarly to both of those microphones. The e935 is a lead singers microphone and the MD-46 is a reporters microphone. The e935 is designed to allow the lead singer's vocals to cut through a noisy stage environment with a super cardioid pattern and the MD-46 is designed with low handling noise and a hyper cardioid pattern. If the TG-v70d is comparable to both then you could get two for the price of one sort of thing. Thanks for the review as always and I hope you didn;t break anything you you tossed the box!

I have the E935 review coming up. =) I do have the MD46 just sitting in my cart, and it's been there since I heard you rave about it about a year ago. Great insight.

When you get the MD46 I'd love to hear a comparison with the Audio Techica BP4001. I don't think anyone has done that one yet. All of the other ENG reporters corded microphones are omni-directional in nature which is undesireable for noisy enviornments in my opinion.

Bandrew, I just bought this microphone from Sweetwater and everything you say about it is true. I love the microphone. Before this I was using a Sennheiser e835 and e945 which are both very good. This one is different as you have illustrated in very detailed entertaining fashion. Bought it from your review. Thank you!

This is probably the best, if not the best microphone review I've ever seen. I'm absolutely convinced that I'll trust your reviews for mics in the future. Additionally, I really like this mic, though I am slightly disappointed that even with its hyper-cardioid polar pattern, there's still a lot of rear/ambient noise (to me) Subscribed!!!
@jasonbodden8816
@jasonbodden8816 2 жыл бұрын
Cardiod, supercardioid and hypercardioid mics all register a decent amount of sound from the rear. Side noise rejection could be better on this mic I agree. When I can I'll add it to the arsenal to test it. I really like how this sounds for vocals in this vid. From other videos I like how the sE V7 and the AKG D5 dynamic mics as well (I have both of these and haven't been able to test them out yet. Hopefully, soon, though). I really like this channel. Been watching for a few months now.

Hey Bandrew, I miss your comment about spokenword/voiceover recordings with the V70D! I like it with your voice, what do you think? I like listening to it directly compared to other dynamic mics like sm58/57, Shure Beta 58, Telefunken M80 etc. In the last episode of Bandrew says you mentioned Anton Brown's reviews. I like, that he does extra tests for the "s-sounds". I think that can help to form an opinion on the harshness oft a mic, how crisp the highs sound. Tests of ISK microphones are very rare to find, i have no idea how their dynamic mics sound ... ;-) I hope you are curious too!

I bought one to give a try but I am not sure if I have bought a fake one. I do singing broadcast on a platform but all of my listeners said the sound of this mic even more dull than my Beta 58A. It is very strange as according to the lab result of my mic, the higher frequency flies higher than the Beta 58A. The only reason I can think of is that it is a fake one as I trust Branden from the bottom of my heart.

What do you think about the sennheiser profipower 431 MARK 2, and the Beyerdynamic 88 comparison for a mid low male voice and Harmonica playing , acoustic gigs ...just with the companion of another guitarrist on live gigs , Maybe a condenser one? I don't mind having an XLR one ( but i need to fit the mixer/audio interface in those 130€ aswell ) , or an USB one. What would you suggest ? Thanks in advance, much love

Hey! thanks for all your work. I’m wondering if this beyerdynamic v70d still your favorite? Also i would really appreciate a comparison of this one to the Audix OM7 or a review of the OM7 due to the background noise rejection, i don’t have a proper space for recording so i need a dynamic with studio skills and great background noise rejection, haven’t found any better than the Audix OM7 because even being a hypercardioid it has a low low sensitivity on the back and of course, the sides. So, hope you can do it! Thanks again!

While the OM7 is a professional mic and the build quality is top notch, I don't really like the papery closed sounding tone I get from it and think that both this mic and the EV ND96 sound better than the OM7. The OM6 is also better sounding. I have all of them and it is just my opinion. For rejection the OM7 is probably the best of any handheld dynamic that I know about. The EV although supercardioid is a close second and also designed for loud stages and high gain before feedback - it also seems to be a tighter pattern than the Beyer hypercardioid speaking only from actual use as I wouldn't expect that looking at the polar patterns and comparing the two. The Beyer is a distant third for rejection but it is so sweet sounding and you can still use it effectively easily 6 inches away. sound great and really control proximity effect impact. Both the Beyer and EV will work with most preamps, while the OM7 requires substantial gain and unless it is a decent preamp there will be hiss. The thing about the OM7 is that in order to get that rejection, you have to basically have it against your lips to get consistent results. The EV is a little more forgiving with distance (out to maybe 3" comfortably and could work further but becomes more difficult to stay in the sweet spot and maintain consistent volume as the pattern is also very narrow in front of the grill). If you really like the sound of the OM7, it is probably your best choice especially if you must have the absolute highest rejection, if not the other two both sound different and are a little more forgiving and flexible in use. I also have the m201and m88 and they both sound great too, but of all of my handheld dynamics I prefer the V70 for the smooth and detailed sound . Good Luck!

I have been wondering is there more than one proper way to position a dynamic mic? I mean you always talk directly in front of it but I see other channel such as PodcastMic that has it slightly to the side while it is pointing towards his mouth. Are there advantages and disadvantages to having different mic positions or is it just personal prefrences?

hi Bender, I have a question, what is the optimal distance to the microphone samson q2u to use and need a pop filter for it?
@PileOfEmptyTapes
@PileOfEmptyTapes 6 жыл бұрын
Anywhere from 1 to 4 inches (2.5-10 cm) should work fine, with first room influences potentially coming in beyond 2" (5 cm) or so, depending on how echo-y your room is. For longer distances it is also advisable to use a decent external mic preamp to keep noise down (e.g. a Behringer Q1002USB is at least 6 dB better than the integrated pre, and I've used it for some ambient recordings with the mic out on the balcony with pretty good results). Don't bother with a pop filter, at these short distances they make too much noise, or so I found. Just use the supplied windscreen and have the mic point downwards towards your mouth from the side, radio style (this keeps your breath out of the mic). Should be pretty much bulletproof like that. Another configuration I found I liked was basket unscrewed and windscreen loosely put over the exposed capsule (not as good as with both and certainly not as robust, but better than with the grille exposed, which picks up a fair bit of wind noise and transfers it to the microphone body even if it does keep off the worst plosives).

I can't believe that I've been looking for this information for 2 hours now. I just placed the order for such a microphone and only then noticed that it exists under two names. TG70 and TG70d. From the images on the Internet, I also notice that on some microphones it is written tg70 and on others tg70d. It's funny that someone else is still asking this same thing on the same day. I live in the European Union and it seems that I ordered the TG70d version. Is the same microphone manufactured in different periods? Can someone enlighten us?

I don't know if there is a difference. The mic itself says TG V70, but if you look at the documentation that came with my mic it says V70d. I contacted Beyer to see if they can shed some light on it.

@@Podcastage I'll come back with some details. My microphone arrived a few minutes ago. It says TG V70 not TG V70d on the microphone, including on all the sheets in the box. So even if on the store's website it was listed as TG V70d, on the microphone and on the sheets it says TG V70. This did not answer the question above, what is the difference between the two versions, I just wanted to say that I received the TG V70 version. @@user-kn1oe6ew2o So in this case, the TG V70 version is the latest one. wonderful. I think it is logical because on the paper with the frequency test, the date June 2023 is written. Probably then the microphone was assembled and the frequency spectrum tested. It's good that things have cleared up.

Podcastage Don't want to be too critical, but an artist I was working with who had brought his own vocal mic, dropped it while removing it from the stand... It shattered... The windscreen popped off from the threads, the capsule came out, snapped a wire, and fell apart. From less than six feet in the air... He was a very active in-studio musician and the hypercardioid nature of this microphone projected its lobe of sensitivity too deep out the back (inside the handle) and picked up all this hand emotions lol After the incident I suggested we move to (considering the in studio environment and isolation /treatment) a broader cardioid microphone. SM58's and enCORE 100's from blue. I love both those microphones, though the blue suited his voice better and was (I knew it would be) better on the handling noise than even the 58. Idk if I'd recommend this mic. He dropped it on low pile carpet FFS. I haven't bought one after seeing that, though I have different needs. I'd be interested if someone else has some long term experience with this microphone and could share. Cheers Bandrew! Good review! (honest, I'm not trying to bash your review, you did great. My experience is just different. 😊)

@@DaveStarr100.3 I have this mic and it sure appears well made. I haven't dropped it but am surprised to hear that any metal housed microphone would shatter when dropped on carpeting, concrete is another story. I am not surprised the windscreen popped off as there aren't too many threads to hold it on when impacted and once that is compromised, well the element is unprotected and neodymium magnets are brittle anyway. It sounds like sort of a freakish occurrence where it hit at just the wrong angle but maybe the metal had an internal defect.
