RODE rep is here haha!!! Product ideas for you - video mic me for gamer headset! Gamers are becoming audio quality aware! Also please ignore Apple - the IOS audiophiles are defecting to Android enmasse because of the loss of 3.5mm! Make a 24bit 192 XLR to USB-A and US-C for PC and Android users! lol

Hahaha this is great! I wonder if Behringer will post a message and ask why their sticker was tortured in the wicked flames of discontent!
@Podcastage7 жыл бұрын
reggiep75 I doubt it. Behringer doesn't even make it easy to get specs on their products. Rode and Shure both know what they're doing in terms of providing all the information you need and making it easy for the customer to contact them.

I initially got this mic to record songs a couple of years ago, but in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been using it plugged directly into the USB port of my laptop, I use audacity to add gain and increase dB. It’s been working pretty good for me lately for my podcast

When I was testing dynamic mics on my computer using XLR to 3.5mm, it worked for me. Plugged it in to the mic jack and was using Audacity to record. I was using a Dell from 2009. So far, all the dynamic mics I tested worked.

I feel like the a recommandation to get a condenser mic is been given to fast and to easily... I would go with the rule of thumb that almost any dynamic mic will sound better than any 10K condenser mic if the room / studio is left untreated acoustically

I could own a thousand mics, but it would not stop me from tuning in to see what Bandrew's reaction to the sticker will be. They are becoming increasingly hilarious! Oh, and your mic/interface reviews continue to be the best on KZbin, by a longshot...but that almost goes without saying.
@JReilly77 жыл бұрын
One question, too, if you could: How does the Behringer XM8500 compare in sensitivity/quietness to these two, if you recall from your testing? Its spec sheet says it has -70dB, but it does not seem possible (especially considering this Rode M1 mic's is -56dB and the SM58 is -54.5dB). I almost get the sense that Behringer may be using the old Sensitivity scale of 74 dB-SPL (instead of the now standard 94)...if that were the case, converting would theoretically put the XM8500 at just -50dB. Does that seem possible? (with Behringer, as you know, detail is scarce)
@Up_All_Night7 жыл бұрын
In my unscientific observations between an SM57 and XM8500, the XM8500 is the more sensitive of the two. Not exactly what you asked, but the 57 ought to be close enough to the 58 as makes no difference.
@JReilly77 жыл бұрын
Still has some value - appears to match my premise on the XM8500 "modern" Sensitivity level at -50dB than -70dB. Thanks!

It's a very nice microphone and a good option. After doing extensive research, while of course not every microphone is going to suit every voice, if I was going to buy a new handheld dynamic I would step up a little and get the new EV ND76. If I was going to get a new broadcast dynamic I would first want to hear the Golden Age Project D2. If it wasn't fantastic I would go with the EV RE320 and probably use it in kick drum mode. I'm not specifically a fan of EV, those are just the microphones that appeal to me at reasonable price points after doing my research. The Rode stuff is also fantastic and a good choice and generally has a reasonable price point too. The fact most of their stuff is made in the mythical land of Australia is also a bonus. If I didn't get the EV stuff, the Rode stuff would be my next choice.

@jcfsounds85504 жыл бұрын
Compared to the Sm58, I personally like the M1 simply because with a little EQ it sounds identical to the 58. For the same price you get a lifetime warranty. An sm58 will probably never fail, but if it did, you would be out a hundred bucks. I now run the m1 as my main live vocal mic.

Great video, as usual. As a podcaster, I'm mostly concerned with the gain question (I'll be running this directly into a Zoom F4) and sibilance. So, with that in mind, would you purchase the M1 or the S58?

@rodemic7 жыл бұрын
No not at all, phantom does nothing to a dynamic mic. In fact a lot of mixers will have phantom turned on across a whole bank of channels so it's unavoidable in some cases, but a dynamic mic will be fine. A ribbon on the other hand... don't do that.

Are the higher frequencies on the Rode M1 comparable to sennheiser dynamic mics, e935 or e945?
@valentinakivalentina89112 жыл бұрын
I have e 935 , it’s very good , but it’s not really 18 KHz … it’s 16 … it’s cardoid, I think e945 it’s more better it’s supercardoid. Something on my microphone I don’t like like a sound , may be the range of voice to participate… I’m a B1 - G#5 -C6 🤷🏻♀️ I want to try Rode and Shure
