i am an Indian, and in India if you are a dark skinned women, you are looked down upon and considered ugly. I had always hated my complexion because i was told to by everyone. It was only in the western media that i saw women of my skin colour being called beautiful. Watching and listening to dark skinned girls being confident in their brown skin and embracing their melanin has made me love mine too. Edit: As an Indian, I am ashamed of the recent controversial song, "Beyonce Sharma Jayegi" (Translation: Beyonce will be ashamed *after seeing a fair skinned girl*) because it just shows how racist and colourist INDIAn Media is. but i am so very proud of the indians speaking against it. I had to come back here, because the moment i heard about the title of that colorist song, i was reminded of this song.

It's literally all about where you were born and grew up. Black people in the Africa and in the predominantly black Caribbean countries seem to have that strong foundation of being comfortable in their skin and knowing and understanding that they are beautiful. Issue of not liking dark skin tone seems to be more of an issue in countries with predominantly light or pale skinned people. It's sad. But it's all good.

This song made me tear up. I relate to this message, cause as a child I was always humiliated by people around me for being too dark. I am asian, and as a child I was always darker than everyone, my cousins, classmates. Boys use to call me the N word for having darker skin and plump lips. Hell, even my grandma and close family members used to shame me for having darker skin, and not looking like other kids. I remember only mama used to protect me from relatives by saying i have a chocolate complexion. All of the songs in our entertainment were also about light skinned girls, I used to grow up thinking smth is not right with me. Then during teenage years I knew about Beyonce and saw how beautiful and strong a dark skinned woman can be, she became my idol. I used to learn all her songs, which helped my English too;) Growing up I have become more confident in myself and my appearance. To sum up, I am proud of Beyonce and other artists taking part in this and I am thankful for the message. I am grateful that little girls are going to listen to this song and feel more confident. I wish someone showed me a song like this when I was a little girl. To all the women and girls reading this, You are beautiful just the way you are!💞 Edit: Thank you all for supporting words in the comments, stay safe and healthy!✨

If anyone does not understand WHY this song exists you need a reality check. Giving encouragement and praising Women that look like her or similar or can identify with her IS NOT RACIST OR DISCRIMINITORY. This song is saying for black women to appreciate what and who they are and that their skin is not a bad thing or something to be ashamed of. I cried several times listening to this song and I loved it from the first time I have heard it. -Brown skin Girl

They know what black looks like as I don’t see Indian men next with black men. I think Beyoncé did it due to pressure I personally think this music was dedicated to black brown skin girls but felt like they had to be inclusive. I think people gotta let black women have their own platform cuz they don’t get represented as much either due to colorism within their own community

@@mic-game6274 India's caste system is brutal despite its laws banning discrimination against "untouchables", etc. India is extremely colorist and life there made very openly difficult for dark-skinned people; much worse than what we Black Americans face here in the U.S. Although your response is well-meaning and true, consider these things before making such an "easy" comment to an extremely harsh and difficult situation. Very brave for Sia and anyone like her to comment and even more brave for them to decide to love themselves despite a world which hates them based off their skin color. Edit: *** It would be ignorant of me to assume that the originator of this comment section (Sia) is directly from or currently lives in India although that is her ethnicity (assuming East Indian and not Indigenous American). It would be patronizing of me to vote her or anyone like her as some sort of unwilling hero for merely speaking their truths; no human should have to be a hero when it comes to their skin complexion. The legacy of racism, colorism and misogyny are generationally passed down from centuries of oppression. As a Black woman I can relate and just try to offer some compassion sometimes so we don't feel alone. Thanks. ***

"Same skin that was broken be the same skin takin' over Most things out of focus, view But when you're in the room, they notice you (notice you) 'Cause you're beautiful Yeah, you're beautiful The men dem gon' fall in love With you and all of your glory Your skin is not only dark, it shines and it tells your story Keep dancin', they can't control you They watchin', they all adore you If ever you are in doubt, remember what mama told you" This part always gets me emotional 😭

This song is for black women, and yet as a dark skin black man I still get the feels. Hopefully, one day I can sing this to my black daughter and raise her to love her blackness, which many like me have had to learn the hard way.

As a medium skinned Indian woman, this song has so much meaning to me. I grew up being told by my grandmother to not go out in the sun so I wouldn’t get darker. I’d go out anyway and then end up not liking that I was darker. Songs like this remind me of how proud I am of my color and that I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I love the fact that Beyoncé celebrated all shades of Blackness in her video. It really did uplift me, and give me the courage to be proud of who I am, a Beautiful Black Woman, and I’m honestly happy to see in the comments section how her video has inspired other Black Women to be proud of their skin, features and heritage .

This is why I don’t just throw the word “artist” around. I’d rather use singer/rapper for most people. You can be a singer or a rapper, but you may not be an artist. Beyoncé is more than a singer and a performer. She’s an ARTIST!! Her works are art! I love you Bey! ❤️❤️
