American Requiem {mass grave or burial}" funeral is laying to rest the past that we have suffered as a nation and now moving to a new way of life. "Black Bird" was written by Paul McCartney (Beatles) during the 60's civil rights for Black Women. The extra vocals are 4 current young black female country singers that have all paid homage to Bey in their songs and or interviews. "Daughter" is following the don't mess with me or mine vibe from "Jolene" {which is actually from her mother's perspective, who is from Louisianna} and having fantasy's that she needs to ask forgiveness for that she then sings an Italian Opera (Lost Love). Then she followed it up with "Spaghettii" (Spaghetti Western outlaws' reference) saying She's going to handle whatever comes her way and not letting the industry play her. Willie Jones and Shaboozey are new age Black male country artist. Willie Nelson is a pioneer in folk country style music and is known for supporting and singing about unity. Post Malone is doing a country album too. "Oh Louisiana" is a sample from Chuck Berry. Linda Martell 1st Black female country artist to hit mainstream popularity and sing at the Grand Ole Opry. This album is so important for the culture, at least to this Black Nashville Native Girl! Also the horse on the cover is a "Lipizzan Horse" They are born Greyish Black and lose their pigmentation over time. "Sweet" is sampling Patsy Cline's " Fall to Pieces". Last this album was recorded 1st after Lemonade then "Renaissance" 2nd, but she felt after the pandemic "Renaissance" was needed to lift the mood. That's why the last part of this album flows right into the 1st song on "Renaissance."

I've been listening to Cowboy Carter ad nauseum since its release date, and to me, this is her best work so far - and I've been rocking with her for over 20 years. There's a lot to unpack and something for everyone. The first half is slow, and the 2nd half uptempo. You're doing yourself a disservice to only listen to a few track. Might have been better off catching the 1st verse and chorus off each record - that way you can keep a mental note on what moved you. Tyrant is one of my absolute favorites along with Ya Ya, Daughter, Spaghetti, Levii's Jeans, and Sweet*Honey*Buckin'. Those who like Hip-hop, Rap, R&B, and [old school] Rock will like these tracks - I play them for my morning cardio. I dislike when people hate on an artist just for the sake of blowing smoke out their asses. The album is a critical success. Hate her or love her that woman puts 101% in everything she touches. That alone should garner respect 💯

But yes you are totally right about how them are doing themselves a disservice by not giving it a full listen. But so many of the podcasts like JBP are into so much stuff such as hit hop drama that they would never take the time to give it a thorough listen unfortunately.

The dance records were there because this was originally act i lol. The whole point was to challenge the confines of genre (a white man’s construct that furthers racism). Rock and roll was once called R&B. Challenging the definition of country was the point. It’s country because Beyoncé is country.

This album is meant to serve as a musical education of the African Americans historic place w/in Country music, which would sound like Irish Folk (great in It's own right, mind you) if it weren't for the Blues & Gospel of the enslaved Africans. This includes the BANJO, which was created by enslaved Africans in the Caribbean then, later brought to The States. Yes, the banjo wasn't created by the Appalachians but by Africans. I could also go into the Black artists that many of the earlier big name white country artists learned from then portrayed as their style.... as it was with Elvis and Black artists like Roy Hamilton, Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe - The Godmother of Rock & Roll), but it would take awhile. ;) Beyonce adds a bit of those artists work into this album as well. Her last few projects have been a meld of grand musical production, a mosaic of Black History and how the two interconnect. It appears that Beyonce is in a period of the Reclamation and Rejoicing of African American Culture, trying to correct the record due to the erasure and gate keeping whilst also trying to push The Culture forward in Unity, Knowledge and Beautiful Experiences and Conversations. 😎 It's what she's become known for. The Superficial and surface level won't fully appreciate this album over the more curious and expansive minded.

the lore of this album runs so deep it’ll be studied in universities for years just like self-titled, lemonade and renaissance have been. the concept of a woman’s drunken night spent listening to a radio station is SO well executed. she goes from lamenting about america’s horrid past, to reminiscing on her childhood, to struggling as a parent, to imagining her mother’s heartache and seeking revenge, to getting high and experiencing a bad trip, to falling in love and losing it then finding it again, imagining herself in a movie, coming down, picking herself up and leaving the bar. all of this executed while also paying homage to americana/folk and country’s black roots, weaving together interpolations and samples from a whole host of other collaborators. she really is a master of her craft AND a student of the past, always paying homage to those who came before her in order to push culture and art FORWARD. 34 years in this business and she ain’t slowing down yet. a LEGEND. many laymans will continue to appear foolish due to their lack of comprehension regarding this album and indeed her career as a whole

Dolly fan and don't understand why you're comparing the two. Lol They're both fantastic representations of each individual artist. Beyonce's was a more contemporary modern take - and that's as it should've been. What would be been the point to just do a play by play cover of what Dolly did?
@TriggaTreDay

@@robinvolpiexactly they are so butt hurt that the cover was a master piece all on its own. It’s the sister version to the original and that’s what makes it so beautiful. You will always have a sister that is too scared to fight for what is hers whereas the other sister is ready fight at the drop of a hat. Perfect opposites.

@@robinvolpi " Dolly fan and don't understand why you're comparing the two. Lol" Because it's a cover. Of course it's going to be compared. "What would be been the point to just do a play by play cover of what Dolly did?" Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" uses the exact same lyrics except that it was turned into epic powerhouse ballad. That's actually what Dolly Parton wanted Beyonce to do and sadly Beyonce didn't do that. She mostly just changed the lyrics to fit her brand which is fine but not as interesting as what Dolly herself was hoping for.

@@TriggaTreDay "exactly they are so butt hurt that the cover was a master piece all on its own" It's laughable to call Beyonce's "Jolene" a "masterpiece." Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" is a masterpiece. Heck, Beyonce's "Jolene" isn't even close to being the best track on the album. That would go to "Bodyguard" which isn't even a country song.

@@DaRunningMan "That's not want Dolly wanted Beyonce to do"???? Are you Dolly's fcking publicist or are you PROJECTING your own WANTS and EXPECTATIONS from Beyoncé’s cover?? Lol Your deludedness is particularly disturbing. According to reports, it was discussed. Dolly was considered, consulted, INCLUDED - aaaaand DESPITE Beyonce's changing some of the lyrics, adding a men's choir at the end (with some help from Willie Jones - young Black country artist), Beyonce STILL honored Dolly by giving her the SOLE writing credit for that track. Dolly wanted it to go big and to be popularized... as Whitney had done w/her song. That translates into DOLLARS. And according to an outlet, Dolly was so grateful and inspired by what Whitney did with that song that she invested some of those big dollars into communities of Color. But for YOU to present your own ignorance as Dolly's thoughts or wants, is alarming. Lol Holy sheit. Dolly has been had a rebellious spirit ALL OF HER LIFE. You think for one fcking second that she doesn't respect the shit out of Beyoncé's version, let alone all that has come with it?? Have. Mercy. 😬💆🏽‍♀️

Country music fan and follow a lot of black country artist. Definitely didn't like it. Didn't work for me and it's been interesting to watch artist trying to get into the genre just taking hip hop/R&B and other content and throwing on some guitar tracks and think it's country music.

Don't fight it, fellas. If y'all didn't rock w/ the LP, y'all didn't rock w/ the LP. And it's as simple as that. I understand that folks walk the tightrope whenever it come down to Beyoncé Carter even when it's strictly about the music. I'm not a country music fan all like that. Nah, of course I know some country records, but it's definitely my least favorite genre. I'm an R&B/Hip-Hop/jazz/gospel kinda girl. In country music, I feel like all of the men sound the same. Nobody has a unique identity, especially, vocally. Same applies to the women. Basically, it's one, long, boring song. My history w/ Beyoncé Carter is pretty simple. Over the years, I've enjoyed a healthy amount of her records, but to just sit and listen to her music like I do Faith Evans & Mary J. Blige, absolutely not. I'm not a Beyoncé fan all like that. The tone of her voice is kind of irritating. I do, however, enjoy records like 2006's _Déjà Vu._ But yeah man, ain't no love lost. Anyhow, I thought her country LP had pizazz compared to the other modern-day, run-of-the-mill country LPs that kinda clog the marketplace. I think folks are interested in the "idea" of Beyoncé Carter in country music v. country music through and through. Make no mistake about it, family, this is a trend. Let's see how long this lasts before folks go back to listening to garbage female rappers. There's this curious "love" for country music that basically happened overnight.

Beyoncé’s album was too long. And lacked pace. It wasn’t a renaissance since she didn’t reference a lot of older Black Country music. She referenced Dolly Parton. The song with her and Miley is probably going to be pushed for a Grammy.
