Same I’m now 19. And watching this video again I see a lot of new content that I didn’t notice when I was 14 or 15 like how the roles were switched and the girl was the one doing the cheating and the male was the faithful one in the relationship, how he was doing his work and not being taken with the girls who flirted with him to get into his pants. Seeing this song as a grown up and no longer that naive little girl there’s a certain amount to toxicity to the video. She says “ if I was a boy, she could understand how it feels to love a girl, that she’d be faithful” but lol the roles were switched and she was playing as the male but she kept repeating the same actions she was criticizing, like being intimate with other guys not being faithful to him etc. lmao. The difference I’m Baffled and astonished.

I agree that Beyonce SLAPS but... This was clearly written from the perspective of a woman, listing off behaviors that are normalized among men. They are raised to think that it's okay to be self centered, do what you want, etc. because men are supposed to be the go-getters, while women are "emotional" and "nurturing" and "supportive" of them no matter what their men are doing. But she describes that as boyhood behavior and ideas, something that they do because they're immature and think they're above consequences, but she doesn't *have* to overspend herself filling feminine roles for him when he isn't even loyal or cares at all. "It's a little too late for you to come back Say 'it's just a mistake'? Think I'd forgive you like that? If you thought I would wait for you You thought wrong" And yeah men can be saints and women can be toxic, but until we acknowledge the societal misconceptions and failings that lead to a disproportionate amount of one sex getting hurt, we're never gonna make any progress in healing anybody and her song becomes meaningless :/

BC said what are you talking about? She had no idea Beyonce had stolen her song. One of my singers was managed at the time by Toby Gad who co-wrote the song with BC. Toby showed it to Beyonce and forgot to ask BC to allow Beyonce to sing it. Beyonce had it recorded and released before BC knew a thing. Then Beyonce conned BC out of her royalties by offering her under a million in cash and the promise do record a duo with BC when she signed with a major label. Beyonce knew BC wasn't a good enough to get a major record deal, so in the end it was scam that has cost BC millions in royalties.
