I am 28 this song came out when I was young girl I use to sing it as a little girl not knowing what it meant but now as a young woman and going through my own disappointment and heartbreak I sing this song so differently and I love the music video especially with her crying in the bathroom and cutting her hair it really shows the Deep debts emotion of a woman who had been hurt at 28 going on 29 I am learning how to love myself .. just me , myself and the help from God

I will bump this on 100 in my car solo dolo with the windows down singing every word because that’s how much truth is in this song. I first heard it at 16 and now as a 28 year old I can tell you that this shit is the fucking realest. Anybody who is young rn and listening to this please don’t let shitty “friends” drain you of your talent, energy, money, and ambition. Stay to yourself and do what YOU KNOW is right. Last year she died in a car crash. Never got to tell her how much she helped me or how much I loved her. Everytime I hear this I pump it just incase she can hear it and feel how much I miss her rest in love ash I miss you girl.

This is one of her underrated songs I think, because on her debut solo album she had young, upbeat rnb songs. This was deeper, a topic that was for grown women who had been cheated on and how sad the lyrics were an eerie foreshadowing of her own life. Cheated on by him and with 3 children.

Well music changes, she has to do whatever it takes to stay current and I also noticed too even the way she sings back then she used to do alot of vocal runs and adlibs, but nowadays that's not really necessary in music songs are mostly sung straight without no vocal acrobats. Her voice in the early days had more of jazziness to it.

All other r&b girls u could make comparisons on the same type of music vids and songs. She’s timeless. U look back now and really appreciate how really good her songs were and still are. I been listening back on her old albums start to finish paying more attention to her vocal ranges and realise how much effort was made paying attention to every details of how she delivers vocals

In the darkest times of depression, this song has helped me so much. Whenever I got cheated on, this song has been there for me. I've been listening to this song since I was 18 years old (I'm 28 now.) At this point I don't care if she didn't write it completely on her own, it doesn't matter to me at all. This is a work of the soul. All that matters is this beat and Beyonce Knowles voice bringing the energy to this song. The video is such a vibe though. Thanks, Queen B.

OMG! Thank you! Some people are like "All Beyoncé sings about now is sex" because of TWO songs: Drunk In Love & Partition. Or some people aren't fond of 7/11 because it isn't very lyrical but I continue to tell people that in order for an artist to be great, they have to EVOLVE. The reason why Beyoncé is THE TOP ARTIST of our generation is because she isn't stagnant. She sings love songs, to pop songs, to dance songs, to female-empowering songs, to sexual/grown & sexy songs. You have to respect her artistry. She's just an all-around phenomenal artist who's DIVERSE.

I dont think we are going to get another 'classic' R&B album from beyonce again, the sad fact is that R&B has become music background music in the salon. However, im glad that even though the music shes making is alternative R&B its not mindless pop music, id much prefer her to experiment with different sounds like she did on the self titled album and on lemonade than get another i am sasha fierce

Ugh, the Weeknd...that loser doesn't do R&B. But everything else I agree with. LOVE Tinashe! And Anti was really good.

Love these Bey throwbacks. So much soul in each song, we really sympathize with her, empathize for some.

I miss this Beyonce. Her songs had feeling and she looked so beautiful. Simple and not overly dramatic. I used to love this song when I was younger.

I grew up singing these songs because of my older sisters, 2001 Saturday mornings doing chores and harmonising with all the beautiful talented black women of the late 90s and early 2000s. This music makes me feel like I’m home. Like everything is going to be okay
