the reasons why i think Beyoncé’s renaissance should’ve won. She dropped an album with no proper promotion, she drop no single visual for any song on the album, she was still able to reach number 1 on the charts, people in different parts of the world threw a renaissance party without Beyoncé even being involved, she did all this to let the music speak for itself and that’s impact right there! 👸🏽 🐝

To the “Beyoncé is overrated” argument, I say: Beyoncé is one of the only artists I know who has been relevant every decade I’ve been alive. From Destiny’s Child, to before she even married Jay Z. Every phase of school she was being played. White, black, Island, gay boys, everyone celebrated her music. Every pep rally has her songs. She was Culture, and STILL IS. She’s very much not overrated she’s just celebrated while she’s here on earth!!!

She IS overrated though. Aside from MJ, there is no other artist that is worshipped this heavily by fans and the media than Beyoncé, when in reality she makes music that is mostly catchy and trendy rather than music that is truly timeless or innovative. Even Adele (who I would say is definitely better) doesn’t get this much praise and recognition.

@@isaiahhill2104 LOL adele is a queen on her on but to the point you say she is better than her is just taste. beyonce is a queen too and she is trying too hard to put something new and inspiring for all the people specially women, not just black people. also beyonce hasnt brought any mainstream single recently and she is not worried about it. They constantly play in her face but when she's not in their face the ratings are low. The fact that the grammy voters commented that & haven't even heard a lot of the music is giving all new voters are definitely needed. Something sinister goes on with the Grammys and Beyonce. Everytime she is in an album cycle we go through the same discussions. They over nominate her for some reason (maybe for ratings) only to give her the same awards they always give her and snub her in the Top 3 categories. And the way they do it is subtle coz they still make sure she walks away with some awards (the segregated ones) but they still confirm that they don't take her seriously enough for top honors. Another possibility is that a majority of Grammy voters think that she is going to win so they go for the underdog instead thinking that Beyonce is a shoo-in. As much as İ love Harry's House, (İ really do) it wasn't better than the albums by Beyonce, Adele, Kendrick or Bad Bunny unless we are talking about commercial success . l am convinced if Beyonce had made Harrys House, the Grammys still wouldn't have given her AOTY🤡🤡🤡😂😂😂. But also it was really repulsive when people heckled Harry because that's something Bey would never want. She is always giving decorum, class and elegance and that's what everyone who loves her should give as well.

I’m very happy for Beyoncé becoming the artist with the most Grammy wins. As a gay guy from the south her music, especially Lemonade, really helped me get through some rough and traumatizing times before coming out.😢 She’s always been an ally of the queer community and for that I’m so appreciative. I do feel bad that renaissance didn’t win like I thought and that a black woman hasn’t won AOTY since Lauren Hill. Your also right about how the Grammys need to also be uplifting queer people of color and as a white ally I’m always happy to see my poc queer brethren succeeding because we are ALL an important part of this community and a family 🏳️‍🌈🫶🏿🫶🏾🫶🏽🫶🏼🫶🏻

I also feel like the Grammys, are taking away awards from other black artists outside of Beyonce. They know they’re not going to give her album of the year so they automatically have her sweep as many of the African-American categories as possible. Sometimes it’s deserved, but they usually do this blindly, erasing all of the other voices that deserve to be recognized. They do all of this just to not give Beyoncé album of the year.

When Harry said this doesn’t happen to people like him, immediately everyone assumed he was talking about race and struggles. I interpreted it in a general sense that he was just talking about how he was able to make a dream of his come true-a dream seen as almost impossible to most, just like people who want to be pro nfl players, or pro nba. People always tell you to put those to the back burner. So yeah, as a general thought, dreams of that scale coming true to anyone, no matter the race, struggles, etc. doesn’t happen to people with those type of aspirations because it seems like a reach. Keep in mind he says this at the end of all of his concerts and it’s more so taken as gratitude rather than pride. But what I have a problem with is people now attacking/invalidating his sexuality because of this. I’ve seen so many people say he’s queer bating and that he’s using it as an aesthetic. And it’s disgusting because the lgbtq community promotes kindness, acceptance, and non-judgment…yet here are people apart of that same community attacking a man who has said he doesn’t want to label himself. And no I’m not talking about Zach but if you’ve been on Twitter lately, it’s been crazy. Everyone coming for this man left to right and it’s no longer JUST about the award anymore. Why? Because he only publicly dates women? Do you know what he does behind closed doors? And if he did come out dating a man would y’all be the same ones to have his back when those other judgmental people attack? Like if people have issues with him winning the Grammy okay cool. But should we be attacking him or the academy?

If no one knows what he truly meant then why was everyone quick to go on defense and quickly think “oh, he’s trying to pretend he doesn’t have privileges”. Why wasn’t everyone quick to say just that-“we have no idea what he meant so let’s just not jump to conclusions”. And in the moment you’re not thinking this is coming across wrong, this might be interpreted differently-he’s accepting a Grammy with barely any time to conjure a speech and you think he’s going to have time to clarify everything he’s saying?

You are absolutely right about the Grammy’s thinking they’re gonna give too much power to Bey, a black woman, if they give her Album of The Year on top of everything else- HOWEVER, they had no problem giving Billie Eilish ALL 4 wins in the top categories in 2020 (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist). And no shade to Billie (LOVE her) but it’s kinda insane that Beyoncé has only won ONE award (SOTY for Single Ladies) in the top 4 categories after being nominated numerous times in them. But this white teenage girl wins ALL 4 on her first run of nominations- qwhite interesting. But I’m glad we the fans, along with her own peers, know Beyoncé has far exceeded the validation of a Grammy!

Billie dominated 2019, got critical acclaim and there were like 5 people in total that worked on the album, 1 Producer, 1 engineer, 1 mixer, 1 musician who also co-wrote and Produced the album and Billie. There are like 150 people that work on Beyoncé's albums.

If I am not mistaken, Variety dropped an article that interviewed one of the voters, who is a music mogul from the 70's (red flag already.) He basically said that he doesn't really listen to the music out now and didn't listen to Beyonce's album, he just voted against giving her that award because she "wins too much" or "wins enough already." So...there's that.

I have to disagree with Taylor being a top entertainer because when I watch her perform, she gives me plane Jane with flashy distractons around her to make her look like she's doing something. But that's just my opinion. I never understood how the officials made the words "Album" and "Record" two separate categories when they mean the same thing. So, they somehow split the meaning to make two different awards for it, but it makes no sense. The Grammys have a hatred for the Carters but always want them there at the show to boost the number of watches. Yet, they do them dirty because of obvious reasons I'm sure we know.... They can't completely do them dirty because then their ratings slip and it gets political.

Beyonce is has always made fun and emotional and beautiful albums and I want to see her win AOTY. When Harry said that it made me so mad cause it seems like he isn't aware of his privilege, I saw an article of how people on Twitter thought he was talking about his upbringing but still...My favorite performances was Sam Smith and Kim Petras' Unholy and it helped me like the song more, Lizzo's Special, MJB's Good Morning Gorgeous, and the Hip Hop tribute ( even though I don't care for Nicki as a person-she deserved to be in that tribute)

trust me, harry is well aware of his privilege. he talks about it all the time, and hes always made it a point that he knows hes extremely lucky. during his speech he was definitely overwhelmed and with people booing him i would imagine he just said the first thing that came to mind, which is something hes been saying since one direction. he knows hes privileged, it was just taken out of context.

It's sickening because if she complains people will be like you have the record but literally like 20+ of the 32 awards are in R&B / Urban categories. And people play dumb when you point out how black performers as a whole are shut out of the big 4 the fact that Lizzo is like the 2nd black woman after Whitney to win this is shameful as well.

YES!! ive been saying to this to myself and thought maybe this is what he meant. coming from an international competition show, no one wouldve seen this coming back in 2010/11. 1d was suppose to just come and go. no one expected any of them to really make it, let alone to the grammys after they disbanded. now as far as his speech, couldve been worded better and clearer. but because i grew up with him, hes bad at these kinds of things. even in the band, he let the other boys talk. i understand why people are upset but the hate really is misdirected

Us, who've been here since his X-Factor era, cannot feel anything but pride and immense happiness!! It's really sad how his words have been twisted into something completely different. He is someone very humble, nice and warm. It is something that doesn't happen to people like him, from a small village in England and from a family with little money. He's been working his ass off since 2010. And when people finally recognise his art and, he's not worth it? The guy didn't have a day off since we don't even know when.. he's making history and there's nothing wrong with that. We shouldn't divide or drag down someone because we favor someone else. Harry Styles album of the year? Deservedly so!!! He is more than a "white privileged man"

And then in the article with people talking about who they voted for and why, I realized it was all politics. Some of them hadn't even heard all of the music! Zack…..slay as usual. I’m old school so I know Bonnie Raitt, seen her a few times in concert, Rock n Roll Hall of fame, AOTY Nick if Time is sooooo good 1990, stood the test of time; nominated again in 1992 and 1994. She’s struggled through her long career with addiction, as a lot of old 70’s rockers do. She is an icon & legend. But, was it sOTY?? It had a good message, but isn’t that why they introduced the song for change or meaning? I don’t know. I actually love Bonnie Raitt, but no it was not SOTY. And yessss, main man, Harry’s House is a good album. It is. But…. It’s no Renaissance. No. No. No. but, it was good. But…. Come on now. Renaissance was something else.
