People are complaining that Leigh-Anne only spoke out now, but a FEW points: 1. Jesy started going heavier on the tan, hair and lip fillers in recent years. Pre-2018 I would say it wasn't anywhere near as bad 2. Leigh DID tell her last year, as confirmed by Jesy herself, and allegedly Leigh's sisters also told Jesy about it before that 3. Leigh has been VERY open with how ignorant she was on racial issues before 2019, she's made huge strides in educating herself over the past 2 years, probably one of the only celebrities that actually put in work. So yes, now she's in a better place to talk about it The barbs are mad, stanning the wife of a known rapist smh. Also regarding the DMs, if they are real, Leigh didn't go to him asking him to make a video, she replied to his story and the "make a video of her blackfishing instead" was just a throwaway non-literal comment, people are acting like she was seeking out blogs to make videos dragging Jesy 😂

I LOVED THE JOJO EXAMPLE. Jojo loves black culture but there was never a time in her career where she tried to appropriate it or change herself to "blend in"/ appear ethnically ambiguous. She stays in her lane and sings from the soul and she's very uplifting of black women!! With Jesy on the other hand, it felt like a costume, like a gimmick. She was black for the moment type of vibes and to me it came off as insulting. It probably wasn't her intention and she definitely isn't the only one doing it but it's still damaging. Despite all of that the person who i'm truly disappointed with is Nicki. She had an opportunity to sit down and educate or just focus on the song but instead she attacked leigh anne tried to create a false narrative of jealousy. I hate how nicki made it about herself, saying how people were only upset with jesy bc she was on the song when we're actually mad at the black fishing. Anyways sorry for the long ass think piece. Some years back, there was an interview where JoJo was asked if she felt that she benefitted from being white in the music business, and she said she did. When I first saw Little Mix, I thought they were like the U.N. of girl groups because I thought Jesy was Hispanic, so I was surprised when I found out she was white. I have gotten black-fishing vibes from Jesy for a while, which is bad enough, but for Nicki to defend the black-fishing and put down another black woman to do so? I wrote a whole paper for my gender, race, and class in the media class. Here were things I highlighted Jesy states” Got a little attitude, but I think he’s kinda cute. So hood, so good, so damn taboo” as these lyrics are sung so is seen standing next to a tall black man whose face is not in the shot, additionally he holds out a small meal for Jesy in one hand and a weight in the other. The lyrics are glorifying the stereotypes cast onto black men, having an “attitude” and being “hood” is never seen as a good thing when it addresses people of color and is weaponized against black people.” “I like them tattoos and them gold teeth Type to make me feel like I’m a baddie” when this line is first said in the video we are again given a close-up of a muscular black man with a grill with the title of the song. Once again a black man is fetishized by Jesy as it makes her feel like a “baddie.”

The reason this is only now becoming as huge as it is, is because Jesy has entered the US market. Before she was only known to the UK audience and as everyone who's from UK will know - spray tan and more importantly, excessive spray tan is normalised here in UK. 90% of girls between 16 and 25 have spray tans on and thats a huge problem. You'll see girls change ethnicity on almost daily basis, and unfortunately since so many do that, most wont blink an eye. Every night out, a new spray tan! That's why Jesy has been getting away with it for soo long here, because she's just like millions of others. Ofc some people have been calling her out for it, but the conversation never went past the "She looks kinda dark in this music video". I remember when Americans were reacting to Sweet Melody - most who didnt know Little Mix thought she's mixed race (if not fully black), because they didn't know her and what her real skin colour is. This is a much, MUCH deeper rooted problem that just Jesy, and thats what's worrying!
