I wonder which version was the first one they developed. According to the Wikipedia, the PS2 and GCN version were made by Ubisoft Montpellier and the Xbox and PC ones were made by Ubisoft Milan. Could it be the PS2 version was the first one? It's a little hard to tell.
@nikodem123asdf8 жыл бұрын
Ubisoft like many companies at the time primed the PS2 version, tho I wouldn't be too suprised if the initial built was for the xbox since that one is the only one where you can see things that in other versions are off screen and the framerate's best in that version.

@@nikodem123asdf The E3 2002 build of BG&E (called Project BG&E at the time) was confirmed to be running on PS2 hardware, as reported by Gamespot back then. It's safe to say that PS2 was the target platform as it wasn't a port by Ubisoft Milan and it also looks a bit better than the Gamecube version in at least a couple of aspects. Gamecube is missing some notable flare/bloom lighting (see planetary shot in opening cutscene, where Gamecube looks extremely dim next to the other platforms) and water reflections look extremely chunky/pixelated next to the PS2 version's water. I don't think the Xbox version had the first build either because that version also has some graphical weirdness in places that no other version has (I blame Milan for that).
@nikodem123asdf3 жыл бұрын
@@Banzeken that's interesting take on it. We also need to take into account that PC version was being made alongside it, pretty much most games ubisoft put out had both console and PC versions that were released at a similar time after all.

@@nikodem123asdf @Nikodem R I did actually test out the original PC version extensively on a 2003 computer (Athlon64 3200+ CPU & Geforce 6800GT, so maybe not a 2003 GPU) to see how it compared to PS2 (only version I have access to currently). Cutscenes/dialogues actually run a bit too fast unless you crank resolutions above 1024x768. No matter what framerate the game ran at, lip animations were always a bit out of sync on PC and I also encountered some weird visual quirks like characters "teleporting" to another spot for a split-second during object-pushing animations. By far the worst aspect about the PC verison is that the water reflections when boat driving run at an abysmal framerate even on top-of-the-line 2003 hardware. That is unless you put water detail to Low, which makes it far uglier than any console version. I tried to like the PC version, but I simply couldn't. That's my verdict.

It does with gamecube games that the Wii does not, it enables 480p and/or widescreen where it normally isnt present also in case of some games it alos removes slowdown cause it uses wii specs so like the slowdown during prism stars in Tales of Symphonia= GONE. It wont make a 30 fps game run at 60 but it makes the framerates more consistent

What's the issue with the HD remake? It's free this month for Playstation Plus (hence me researching it as I never played it).
@nikodem123asdf9 жыл бұрын
+napalmhardcore the HD remake just isn't great, but honestly for the kind of money they asked for it it was obvious it was a budget HD re-release. I'd say go for it and see for yourself. The issues it has is that it's very selectively HD with most of the game still being the exact same thing as the PS2/XBOX and GC, they only re done the main characters and made everything much darker(you can battle that with the tv settings I'm sure). One really good thing they did was that they made the framerate much better (instead of hanging between 40-60 it's always 60 in the HD version. Also apparently they introduced a bunch of new glitches with one preventing you from progressing (you can make sure to avoid it by always keeping an extra save in akuda bar). Still it's nowhere near as bad as the Rayman 3 HD or Prince of Persia HD collection

I know it's an old comment but yeah basically all hopes for that game turning out as anything to look forward to have been dashed when the director of the original left the project a few years back. The XBOX version is, as expected, much better. The GameCube version probably is too since the game is just 2.4GB big (at least based off the PC version), with some compression if would fit the MiniDVD without much trouble. The difference in aspect ratio is very interesting, judging by it i guess the PC version is based off the XBOX port, since it can't actually output 16:9 even with mods, only 16:10, 21:9 or 4:3. And yeah the PC version is kinda crap, but with some tweaking and care it's actually better looking than the HD version.
@nikodem123asdf7 жыл бұрын
TheFreeman gamecube discs are only 1,3 gb large tho. But yeah the pc version can be playable and better looking than the HD port but thats mostly because there is an even distribution of detail (what i mean is the hd bersion has that nasty "lets just enhance the main character" thing). Gamecube version isnt bad at all sometime ago i forced it into running in 480p on my wii with nintendont it looks just as good as the xbox version. The worst thing with the pc release for me is lack of controler support
@MrFreeman6267 жыл бұрын
Nikodem R Yeah the lack of controller support is complete bullshit. I still don't really get why any version aside from the HD re-release has actual 16:9 support. On the PC it isn't too much of a problem with some simple mods but some pixels from top and bottom are missing. At least i can run the game with anti aliasing and texture filtering tho on the PC.
@nikodem123asdf7 жыл бұрын
it technically counts the whole screen as its display area, since in some scenes the letterboxing fades to white, so that might be it. I dont have much experience with widescreen hacks on the PC but the one time I did that for Harry Potter 2 things would get weird with all 2D assets and certain sections.
