First Proper bike Gravel Bike ride on the Specialized Creo SL Evo. This time I wanted to push the bike beyond its battery range to see what would happen. I was surprised by the experience. This is a proper Gravel Bike it just happens to have a turbo pedal assist which makes it a great experience for many reasons. Lets test the this e Gravel bike to see how far she can go!

The fact you can ride it without power is the game changer. My old Ebike was not compatible with being ridden sin gas and therefore had a very real range of 35 miles. You were then walking home, pushing a heavy bike.

As a native Oregonian who burnt out on most things Portland, you guys make me homesick and remind me of the good times and good people back home. Having ridden the Creo, I agree. It's not a scooter, it's a bike, a real bike, an awesome bike. People think they are mopeds, or every time you ride it, it's automatically in Turbo mode, and that's just not the case, at all.

Thoroughly entertaining video. You get all the salient features of the bike covered in a milieu of fun cycling camaraderie that reminds me of many of the group rides I've had with my buddies over the years. I see that Portland is still just as wet as usual in the winter as it was back in the early 90's when I lived there. Neat logging roads and rural sections. Good tip on the Epic Rides app. Kudos to the video editor.

I live in the Bay Area and bought the Turbo Creo SL expert actually in Portland after test riding while on vacation. I love that bike. I adjusted the standard mode battery assist down to basically compensate for the weight of the bike. I use it in that mode for most long rides and climbing and can get better than rated battery life. It is so nice to bump up the power when facing long miles in head winds or just need a bit of help on a stretch of a long climb. Bottom line there is now no ride too steep or too long with this bike. It is also really comfortable and smooth riding bike.

Considering that you'd only have to output another 30-40 watts to make up for the added weight of the Creo, you can program its level one (Eco) to output this amount (roughly 10% with a 40% response rate) and the battery reserve will be quite enough for the long ride. You program it using the free app, Specialized "Mission Control". If you added a "Range Extender" external battery you'll be able to easily complete the ride, with an amount to spare that could have been used for more output from the higher level (Sport) keeping Turbo at 100% for those times when you may need it (steep hills, wind). By the way, you don't have to turn it off to get no power as there are FOUR (not three as you stated) selections of power. Just keep the top button pressed for a few seconds and the pedal power will be off but its internal power meter will still output to your bicycle computer.

That's definitely how an ebike should be used. I bought a Vado 4.0 last summer. And it's really been a game changer for me at 71 and not riding a bike since 1975. But it's dog heavy and a slug if you should lose the assistance. Yesterday at my LBS I was offered test ride on a Creo SL. Holy moly!!! Such an amazing bike. Without assistance it's a great bike; even old farts can ride unassisted (such as myself). But when you turn it on, it's kinda subtle with power in lower level. Like you know it's there but not enough to feel guilty about using it and you can still get your workout but extend your personal range so much further. And then there's second gear 🤣, the second power level, still somewhat subdued but definitely you know it's working. Great for cruising while exerting maybe half of your regular efforts. And finally turbo 😝. When you really need some assistance or just because you have it and want to feel the wind on your face. What a machine. Now to figure out how I can afford one. 😳 Great video thanks. Subbed

went on 170 mile trip. 7000 foot elevation gain, only on the internal battery. Left the big climbing for the assist, and the rest, like a bike, no assist. Was loaded with camping gear as well. Went to turbo for the last 10 miles, got home with 30 percent charge. Loved the help up. The rest was a good bike ride.

"Totally thought this ride was going to be too much for this battery" barely uses the battery during the ride. HAHA. Good to see how much you can ride this without the assist, until you want it. I am VERY seriously looking at one of these right now due to worsening health issues, and after looking at every e-road and e-gravel bike on the market, this just make fit the bill. I'll finally be able to do my old climbs again!

What a bike I love it. Great ride video. 32lb that's my regular non-e-bike weight lol.

While there are several clicks on the dial, the Future Shock 2.0 compression damping has only two settings. Open and closed. Setting the dial in the middle is the same as having it set all the way open.

Nice, mostly a roadie, it is fun, started with an Orbea Gain, love it. mix on/off pwr, have never experienced a flat battery... even 60+ miles. Creo must be like an Orbea Gain on steroids, with at least another setting... or two. Me like!

Love my Creo. 3000 miles in 4 months. Leave the bike on the whole ride, to shut off the assist when you want by holding the mode change button for 2 seconds. It will show battery bars but no assist bars. In eco at 35% I do about 4wh/mile. So 80 mile range.

Great tip thank you! have you ever used the "remotes" for changing power?

Hey Ed - I just put the remotes on and its how it was meant to be (well the hack where the left shift lever controls it is _really_ how it was meant to be). Its great having the light hooked up to the main battery, too. Will never forget it again.

They should use a dyno hub to recharge the battery, maybe actuated by a switch to turn it on and off like a secondary brake. I can't see myself using an e-bike but I wish I could afford some for people in my family to get them into riding.
