Very sad to see indeed. The Super Competition was the 2nd from the top of the Peugeot bikes at that time. I distinctly remember dreaming of owning one. But instead got a new 81 Peugeot Sprint which was all I could afford at the time, though that ended up being the best Peugeot at that time for randonneuring, Still that Super Competition is not totally lost. Complete strip and repaint is needed and there are exact replica decals for sale on ebay which would bring it back.

I feel your pain. Had to powdercoad a Puymorens frame recently. Previous owner started to sand the frame and the lugs, there was no way of saving original paint or chrome on the chain stays. Classic 'single speed' converting dog shit.

There was a long time when these bikes were just ‘old’, with no value or allure at all. Why ride a downtube shifter bike when there are so many more newer shiny bikes? Just like nobody takes a second look at an 2008 aluminum bike right now.
